Anita had not been in Polar Zoo in about 2 months. When she returned i had the chance to film her first meeting in a long time with the wolves she spent a long time socializing from 16th of May 2008. The video is recorded in Polar Zoo and any questions related to socializing process should be taken with them. For more information about the socialized wolf pack go to www.polarzoo.no

@@lottorenato not only that, i also believe they were asserting them not to be to pushy with her, they were all clearly excited and sometimes that behaviour can escalate. I never interacted with wolves but for the experience I have with large groups of dogs and in particular with huskys, i had 1 young (and yet huge) husky getting escited while i was petting and playin with him, and the older one was going around in circles and sometimes aproach. Whenever the younger got excited and overbearing I noticed the older one would growl and push him away. She was not being aggressive, she was just being assertive

She also returned from maternity leave, and wolves tend to have a keen sense for whether someone pregnant. So it’s likely they knew to be gentle because she was a mother.

Well. It is actually rather interesting. There is very few animals that hunt in packs, are social and operate during daylight. One group of animals that do that is Humans. The other is wolves. It is actually a perfect fit. Humans with brain power that can out think and become more dangerous then anything on the planet. Wolves with high speed and strength in pact hunting. Dogs are also very interesting and I find them bizarre in a way. Dogs have completely dedicated themselves to live with another species. They have given away their own right to breed with who they want. They also listen to humans almost from birth and actually ask humans for help when they can't solve problems. Wolves simply do not listen to humans or ask them for help. They even trust us to the degree that during for example rat hunting. They will in the middle of trying to catch a rat, let it go if the human is telling them to. That is a level of dedication and trust.
@victorrtalluto225
@victorrtalluto225 3 года назад
Actually I believe the theory that wolves pretty much domesticated themselves by hanging around cavemen more and more to get closer to food. The tamer ones got more tame and men started taking care of orphaned pups. But no one really knows. And when they started acting like the ones in this video, the partnership between man and dog was sealed.

They think she is alpha
@Hekateras
@Hekateras 4 года назад
@@zazzmagar *EDIT: Please read to the end of this message before replying.* "Alpha" is not a thing. It's from an oudated behaviour model that came from studying incomplete data based on captive wolves, and the researcher (L. David Mech) himself has disavowed this model, but not before it made its way into pop culture. You can read more about this on Wikipedia if you search for his name or Alpha (ethology). (Clarifying edit: "Alpha" as a term is still in use but it doesn't mean what you might think it means based on pop culture.) *Edit #2:* In the months since this reply, I've had some interesting, often frustrating debates with people over it. We've covered just about anything ranging from the episthemological problems of studying, defining, measuring hierarchies in social animals, the differences between wild wolves and captive wolves (such as the ones in this video), and the ways pop culture understanding of wolf hierarchies - which ignores most of these nuances - influences the way we view human relationships, workplaces, animal training, etc. I'm not an animal behaviour biologist, though I do have a master's degree in bio that has given me a slightly deeper than average understanding of how behaviour and evolution work, and the pitfalls of such work. Still, I don't claim to be an expert on this particular subject, the most I can hope to do is convey some of the complexities people might not be aware of. Literature has no real consensus on to what extent social hierarchies in animals are real, or meaningful to study and talk about, or even what definitions to use. Science is tricky because those of us who practice it simultaneously understand its importance and just how fallible it is. You can spend years studying a thing that's not particularly real, because if you keep looking for connections, you *will* find them, and even widely-held scientific dogmas can later turn out to be completely inaccurate. At the same time, science is all we have. That's a contradiction we have to deal with. At the end of the day, an inescapable end point of these discussions is that no matter what goes on with wolves, human beings are a different species and insights into wolf behaviour were never meant by the scientific community to be transferred onto humans as life lessons. In short, don't base your human interactions on pseudo social animal psychology. Anyone trying to teach you to be a more "alpha" man to pick up girls is probably trying to sell you something, likely their next book or, more recently, that sweet RU-vid ad revenue. Women aren't off the hook, either. I see your a/b/o/Omegaverse fanfic. Appreciate the fiction all you want, but understand that it's just fiction. Some reading for those interested in learning more: www.koryoswrites.com/nonfiction/dominance-behavior-in-canids/ Good popsci review of some of the literature at the time of writing, easy to read The Concept and Definition of Dominance in Animal Behaviour: (brill.com/view/journals/beh/125/3-4/article-p283_9.xml - google Sci Hub to access this) Dominance in domestic dogs - useful construct or bad habit? (img2.timg.co.il/forums/1_139885255.pdf) Enjoy the reading. I will no longer be replying to this thread, I've spent too much time on it as it is. :P
@Hekateras
@Hekateras 4 года назад
@stuart mcdermid What makes you think I'm wrong? My claim is based on fact (David Mech having renounced his model is something anyone can fact-check), literature, and reading actual animal behaviour biologists talk about the complexities of animal pack behaviour (in wolves as well as other canids). You're going to have to be a hell of a lot less lazy than "ur wrong sorry" if you want to be taken seriously in your disagreement.

For anyone who keeps saying "why does she have her mouth open?", it's taught you greet wolves with your mouths and keeping it open is a sign of respect, and friendliness to them. Our middle school brought in wolves and they told us they might come up to us and lick our mouths and we shouldn't turn away or keep it close because it might anger them or think you're unfriendly. It's a weird idea but Wolves and dogs are able to understand more about you by the smells and tastes in your mouth which is why dogs tend to lick you and can be a sign of happiness or a bond.

Please stop trying to attach human ideals to animals. What you see as "bullying" is nothing more than a very intricate and structured social hierarchy. Very few animals in the animal kingdom practice "bullying" and those that do are mostly primates...or humans. Chimpanzees for example are known to take joy from tormenting or even killing other chimps, but wolves are dependent on a "pack" mentally to survive.

Hes not dominating Jesus christ how retarded are people. Its a misconception, the whole dominant alpha thing is not what you think it is and doesn't exist in wolfs, the person who created the idea of alpha wolfs later recalled it and denounced it after he did further research and found out it wasn't the case. What he thought was an alpha complex was just a parent child relationship thats why he denounced ot but pop culture refused to listen
@aggressivelyamicable5987
@aggressivelyamicable5987 3 года назад
@@tortellinifettuccine Firstly, he denounced his research in that specific instance but since then other papers have found that the wolf social structure is much more complex than a simple alpha and group of betas set up. However, there is still a clear hierarchy in wolf packs AND the aggressive wolves in this clip are indeed asserting dominance over the lower ranked wolves. You're welcome to do some research on the topic beyond an "Adam ruins everything" video (which are generally far too oversimplified).
