In this episode of my TransAmerica bike tour, I begin just outside of New Cumberland, Ohio, and share the final day riding with my friend, John. We’ve had an amazing few days on the road together, and we take some time to chat about the great experiences we’ve shared. John also talks about his plans to possibly ride the GDMBR next year to raise awareness for a charity close to his heart - Team Cont;nue - which supports families affected by suicide and mental illness, and provides counselling for those in need. It’s a really important cause, and it’s been great to learn more about John’s motivations for the ride.
After saying goodbye to John in Steubenville, I’m reunited with Bill, a friend I made during my GDMBR ride last year. I take a few days off the bike to relax and spend some quality time with Bill. We even discuss the possibility of taking on a new adventure next year - the Arizona Trail.
Back on the bike, I ride through Pennsylvania and meet more incredible people along the way. I join up with the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP), a 150-mile rail trail, and spend most of the episode enjoying the peace and beauty of this amazing path. The video ends with me in Frostburg, Maryland, after another great day spent with Mark, a fellow cyclist who joined me for the day.
This has been a really uplifting week on the road, full of great company, incredible trails, and the kind of unforgettable experiences that make bike touring so special. I’m now officially over 3/4 of the way across the US, and feeling more energized than ever as I approach the final stretch of this incredible journey.
