REVEALED...The Top Secret, Deep Set Neck Tenon Trick

The other day I was asked to show how we do the transition from where the neck ends and the pickup route begins. It's not really a secret but the process is one of my favorite techniques and I'm happy to share it with y'all. In any case, the deep set neck tenon is a feature that has some real benefits and is something you should look for on a high end guitar.
For everyone who is hunkered down in the house or just looking for a little bit of infotainment we are doing a lot of extended videos so you can zone out a little bit.
“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”
-Nick Fury
Here at Texas Toast Guitars we understand that the world is a mixed-up place right now… Even more than usual! We joke around a lot about “Safety Third” but the fact is that maybe laying low isn’t the worst idea? Of course, that is easy for us, we spend a lot more time with the beloved pin router than we do people.

Would love to see you do , unless you already did one and I missed it, a segment on doing the neck angle/body/ bridge that is the part that always gives me grief. You showed it quickly in one that showed a bunch of necks and bodies done quickly with different bridges but you went fast as to what to look angle wise. I remember you do all your body joints one inch deep and carve the back of tenon with the angle but how deep does neck tenon have to be and getting the angle to different bridges is the part I have trouble with. Thanks in advance. Will drop some cash in the till since have watched a lot of your videos.

I used the double sided tape for awhile (trying several different kinds etc) and i didn't think the glue trick would hold, but I had problems with the double sided tape with it not holding sometimes which resulted in ruining my piece, then at other times not being able to separate the pieces (probably because then i was over taping), but finally it was because i would run out when i needed it the most and I can't buy good double sided tape locally. I went to the glue/stick fast way and I have to say, I don't see going back. Works like a champ and i can always find regular tape, thin CA locally and a large can of stick fast accelerator lasts me for 6-8mos. I get it though, to each their own. I'm not pushing it on anyone. Do what works for ya. Love the videos and Thank you for them, i look for them everyday

I always wondered how you did that, I assumed it was done separately, but if you have a tight enough neck joint it makes sense to do it this way …. pretty cool !!!

@@TexasToastGuitars …ok… the thickness of the tape doesn't mess with the final depth of the cut ???? you pocket looked very precise when you were finished…no step between the neck and the body...

The pin router is quite cool it looks like a converted vertical arm drill / milling machine, I'm an engineer by trade, what has been the worst duck up compared to a standard router, my worst was when I was routing out one of my solid body Banjos and the depth stop threw its hand in and plunged so deeply into the wood it tore into the work and sent it off like a spiked frizby before I'd got past the letter F... 😂
@TexasToastGuitars
@TexasToastGuitars 4 года назад
The pin router was built to be a pin router but I can see how one might think it is a converted contraption... it is old school, just like me.

Great work. Is the slight neck angle achieved by the neck pocket being angled or the back of the neck?

@@TexasToastGuitars Hmmmm...Ok. I'm at a level of trying to transition from like warmoth assemblies and partscaster mods to doing a build with mdf templates. My goals is a '72 deluxe where you'd be able to switch out between a T-O-M/stoptail, and a Vibramate/B5 with probably the schaller roller bridge in the T-O-M layout. I do not like shims, long story. Using mdf templates, is it easier to angle the neck heel area, the pocket, or recess the bridge?

Beloved Pin Router be like, "Just let go! I'll do it myself. Go get a beer and let me work. I don't need your 'HELP' Matt." Then Matt comes back and there's a stack of perfect bodies and a mountain of shavings all around Beloved Pin Router and Matt shamefully gets the broom to clean up.
