I still find it hard to believe that they’re not gonna look at my test scores and immediately deny me. I have all a’s and b’s, 3.9 gpa. I’ll be applying SOON and never thought I was gonna go to a 4year, so never studied for the act or sat, and the first time I’ll be taking the act is the only time I’ll be taking it. Along with the subject tests. So, probably never gonna get to go to Dartmouth, but I can only hope.
@tiffanyhanson3701

I’m curious what your ACT score was. My son did really well on the ACT and average on the SAT (he is stronger in English and reading than math). My other son does pretty much the equivalent on the PSAT and the practice ACT (he is stronger at math than English, slower at reading). I’m just wondering how much he can realistically bring up his score with targeted practice.

dark side of the moon Colleges look at what your school offers, so you will not be penalized at all for not having AP classes available! But b/c AP weren’t offered, taking subject tests would show initiative and may help your application :)

Should I take AP Chem without taking normal chem? How hard is AP Bio?
@Houseofnyxrecords
@Houseofnyxrecords 6 лет назад
Look into how good your teachers are. Ask upperclassmen what their experiences with these teachers were because it's so important!! AP Bio I found was very easy, almost everyone in my high schools passes. AP chem, however, I have heard is very hard!! We have 2 new teachers so that's most likely why, but still... Good luck !
@HannahLikes
@HannahLikes 6 лет назад
As someone who has done exactly that, it really depends. If you have the time, motivation, and ability to self teach yourself the basics of general chem beforehand, I’d say do it! It definitely makes the class slightly more difficult, but if you love the subject then it is certain doable. I’d say that the only area that is particularly difficult to supplement is the lab work you miss out on when you don’t take general chem. Bio is more rigorous than it is hard, if that makes sense. Lots and lots of reading, but the material itself isn’t too hard. There’s TONS to learn in a very short amount of time, but if you’re science-minded and logical, the test itself isn’t bad. obviously ease of success in these classes will vary based on your teacher, but still I hope this helps :)
@brendansetliff9182
@brendansetliff9182 6 лет назад
aisha !! Honestly you should defiantly take AP Chem even without taking chem before. If you have time just master a couple basic concepts of chem like composition of a atom, stoichiometry, and drawing Lewis structures.

I took AP Bio and the teacher was great and very lenient when it came to the work and when to hand it in, but what she taught was just out of the textbook, and while I did learn a lot in that class I completely flopped the test because she never taught us test strategies or prepared us for it in anyway. I got a good grade in the class, but failed the test so I guess it depends on the teacher/school

It's competitive for all students, but I imagine it's slightly harder for international students since dartmouth is a smaller college. I'm not sure how many international students were accepted this year, but last year international students made up 11% of the enrolled class. I imagine a few hundred are offered acceptance each year. Not too well versed on this topic but I hope this helps

I would say it's actually easier for an international student to get in because every school wants to be very 'diverse'. But that is, only if you can speak on the same level of English as American people can. Btw this is my opinion, I don't know if this is true.

How would you suggest studying for biology subject test? I'm a sophomore and I took AP bio this year , the test is this week, and I'm just not so sure if I need to study or not

As I mentioned in the video, I literally didn't study for that test at all so I probably won't be too much help lol. I watched a video called One Year of AP Bio in 40 Minutes to refresh my mind on some concepts the night before but if you have the time, I'd recommend looking over some basic anatomy (especially details of the endocrine system) as anatomy's a pretty big portion of the subject test but not the ap curriculum. Of course, if you have access to any practice questions, doing a few of those won't hurt :)

well for the sat, khan academy (which is partnered with college board) has an AMAZING sat prep plan. there’s plenty of practice tests, and they take your weak spots from previous sat scores and work with you on those. (college board makes the sat btw)

Hi! I actually made a whole video on how to study if you want to check it out (its the only video on my page so far) but basically just real act practice tests over and over again

Ok so I am hearing that you should basically just do great at pretty much everything and you'll be totally fine for getting into an Ivy League.

I took the April sat and will be taking the June one, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to take the August one, because I really want to study more.

Karina Patel Yes. If you got less than 1500 then grind it out over the summer

.........you should aim for at least 1550 so you stick out from that mass of people clustering around 1500
