I watched a video of a native Hawaiian woman who said that Hawaiian names should be sacred because the tradition is to hear the name from the spiritual wind.. (something like that) is it rude to use Hawaiian names without respecting the tradition?

@@ewelinabinkowska9657 a lot of people that are not Hawaiian pull names from ‘ōlelo hawai’i. Giving your child a Hawaiian name is definitely sacred, but names can come to you in many ways. Through your kupuna, a family member, even a dream. I’m Hawaiian and considering the journey they went through together I think that Koa is very fitting. It seems like it was meant to be for their little boy. Also, if it means something to them then that in itself tells us something❤️good question tho. If they were to name him something completely random then I would think it was disrespectful.

@@ewelinabinkowska9657 I don't find it rude at all as long as folks are respectful but then again I don't have any control over anyonelol We definitely do have our cultural protocals regarding names however Its truly about the intention and from what I see this couple has the most beautiful intentions and developed a love for Hawaii which I think is AWESOME! That being said, I don't speak for all Native Hawaiians as some may disagree. But this Hawaiian loves that they loved Hawaii and gave their son such an important name❤

OH MY GOD. I’m in tears. I have watched your whole pregnancy journey and I was praying that everything will turn out okay for you both. I saw the stress and anxiety you both went through. I went through the same. Nothing was easy but I knew my son would be a fighter and I too, chose his name to be fighter in hawaiian but I named him Nakoa. He too was my rainbow baby. Unfortunately we lost him a few hours after I gave birth this year but seeing you guys chose Koa as your son’s name gives me hope that my second rainbow baby will come by sooner or later. 💕

I am so sorry for your loss, Mama. I can’t imagine. I was a NICU mom for 6 weeks and know what that fear is like, but am fortunate enough to still have my little man almost 2 years later. “Complaining” is the wrong word to use. Giving birth is tough and exhausting but so rewarding. Everybody is different and I think just because someone handles their pain better than someone else doesn’t make them better than you or I. I won’t say you meant anything offensive by it though.
