Hey fellas, I finish it up in this episode and I show you how I paint it and replace a broken pitot tube with a homemade version made from brass tubing. If you're interested in buying this one, shoot me an offer at seanerk@hotmail.com
Some of the best tips I’ve ever seen on painting black models, the post it note trick is class, too many on line modellers over complicate the method to create the effect, this was simple and straightforward and will definitely help the modelling community. Well done Sir 👍
Hello mate, great video and great tips too, about what people say about you drinking at the start of your video's, take no notice mate, it's just people who are sad and very easily offended, take care, all the best, Lee, from England.
Thank you very much for sharing this, it looks amazing! I have question about displaying models hanging from the ceiling. Do you have any recommended varnishes that can protect them from regular dusting? I am also concerned about yellowing over time. Thanks!
As far as yellowing, I’ve heard “Future” yellows over time but I haven’t seen it on any models I have. Dust is always going to be an issue especially with a flat finish…it’d be easier to dust with a gloss finish like Tamiya gloss or alclad aqua gloss but those don’t fit well with most planes.
I just build, paint, and hang from the garage ceiling ith fishing line. After several years I will ditch the kit to make more room for a new display model.....it is a hobby isn't.
I gave this method a try on my Hobbyboss 1/32 P-61 black widow. The O/D would have been easier, but I gave it shot in black and it looks great using your method ! Thanks for the simple way to do a black plane ! The Blackbird looks fantastic in flight !
Just picked up a Testors 1/48 scale value pack SR-71 kit at an estate sale with everything in it. And the paint in the small bottles are still good, not dried up. My 1st attempt since I was in my teens
I built this kit years ago. it is accurately shaped. Very nice vid. I did mine in the "low vis" color scheme with red numbers and no tail flash. thanks.
Dear Sean, thank you for listening to your audience and sharing (again) how you do you black planes. This is defenitely something you did for us and not for yourself. Very much appreciated!
She’s a stunner and the base works totally..Amazing work and the painting black demonstration was great and something I will try..After I build my 1/48th Ki-46 I’m planning to build a bf-109F-2..Then a Do-17 all black night fighter and I was trying to figure how to add shades into the black. Again that’s one excellent Blackbird and base..Can’t wait for your next project..Thank you and all the best from Blighty🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
Hello Sean, amazing build as always. Thanks for the great tips how to preshade black aircraft. Love your work and videos. Big fan. Hope to see more soon. Best regards Norman
that is a hugely impressive model and build ! love these in flight displays that are really the only way to show off these beautiful aircraft ! cant wait to see the next project !
Sean, is there some way to text or email you? I would like to know what exactly you need to make my own masks...ie cricut, mats, tape, cutters, transfers that kind of thing.
you are one brave soul to build this kit. i build it once back early 2000 for a contest in Orange County. i added a resin cockpit and gosh, gosh, gosh, this thing is a nightmare to build. my build turns out well. maybe all the stars in the Haven aligned during my build timeframe. i was even impressed with it. BUT, BUT, BUT, i will not build this again. ever.
I’ve built the one you’re talking about but this one is the new mold released in late 2021. It’s much better than the one you built but it still isn’t much fun;)
Another work of art this SR 71 finished...congratulations! I suggest a video explaining the assembly of the Mirage IIIE 1/48 Kinetic kit, as it is a challenge to assemble it even for the most experienced . Thank you.
I am here for that base. The 71 is cool but being stealth like, it's like looking at the X-15. That base is the true creation. I would BUY bases from you if you ever want to just do bases to sell. I will always remember that ocean surface you did. You wouldn't even have to worry about rod. I have seen many stunning bases from you.
That plane always reminded me of “Firefox”, the classic ‘80’s movie, starring Clint Eastwood, I love that movie, and the plane. The plane was supposed to be a MiG-31 lol.
man, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have an attachment to something after they build it lol. After a while of displaying some I just throw them away to make room for more haha. Great work on this Blackbird!
Thanks for the refresher from the other SR-71 build on your painting black. Going to try this technique on a F4U-5N Corsair and a F7F-3N Tigercat. Great looking build as usual.
Hi Sean, thanks for sharing this very nice build. Turned out amazing. I always hope you bring a dark fancy painted german bomber or jet and at the end I end up buying a US jet after watching your movies haha. Keep on the outstanding work. Just love it
what does leveling thinner do that alcohol doesnt? I know its an acrylic thinner, but Mr Hobby acrylics are way different than Tamiya. Genuinely curious...
