Hey fellas, in this episode, I tackle rescribing panel lines, create pilots for an inflight display, add a cool effect to the camera windows, and get it all glued together. To my highschool English teacher...you failed at teaching me the correct use of commas.

Yeah, re-scribing is a pain but this one is easier to do than most, lots of straight lines.

Fantastic Buddy! This is a kit that many of us have built, have sitting in our stash waiting to build...or both! I agree with most everyone that its a shame no one else has tackled this jet in a modern mold. I look forward to seeing you tackle the different aspects of making this old kit great.

Great vid! I have the Testor's two-kit package - SR71and U2 that I bought up-teen years ago and a Italeri U2 Senior Span - they're still sitting in my "stash - one day I'll get to them. I read sometime ago that the SR leaks fuel on the ground and once it's airborne it "seals-up." It then has to link up with a tanker, top off, and then go on it's mission. And of course if one wants a chuckle, they can look up the famed SR-71 "Speed Check" story.
@clarktrainham5435
@clarktrainham5435 2 года назад
That titanium skin did exactly that. Once it got hot and expanded, the fuel leaks stopped.

I can't recommend enough trying HiQ Parts Scribing Guide tape made in Japan its the greatest tool I've found to aid me in rescribing its clear plastic tape and will conform to almost any shape you could possibly need and it comes in 3mm and 6mm widths and the tape can be reused several times before it loses its sticky - You will not regret purchasing this product !!!!!

@@seanerk5kt9 I picked up a roll for under $6.00 on Amazon included shipping and it is worth every penny IMO plus you get 30 m of tape per roll so actually is very cheap considering other tapes plus it doesn't pull of paint or primer like Dynamo does

I finally bought myselfa 1/48 scale SR-71 and I'm watching your videos to get ideas on how to start I found it interesting that you use pledge floor Care finish to glue the foil on the sensor windows. Interesting technique but I really like the result I may do that myself-- thank you for making these videos and I look forward to possibly sharing my build in the future.

Great subject, from all accounts the 'bird' while sat on the ground had huge panel gaps due to the design and only when it was airborne did the panels retract to normal, I saw a documentary on a US pilot over Bagdad who saw all the tracer and AKKA, for a second he was a concerned until he realized he was way out of reach!
@seanerk5kt9

A guy I build planes for was an F-4 pilot and saw a few of these take off and land. According to him, after landing, the blackbird was 5” longer because of the heat expansion occurring at just high speeds.

Matt, this kit is a hornets' nest by itself minus all the extra stuff in this video. If you just gonna slap some glue on and WHOOLA done then it's no big deal. If you are going to build it like you are going to enter into a contest (contest worthy) then it can daunting. If you have a life, do not start this kit. This kit was not made for the fint hearted.

I just got back into modeling since I was a kid. my wife and kids had gave me a SR71 to build so as my second model out of the gate I am rescribing lines. I was wondering if you could be a little more specific on the nail foil. When I search that the results are endless. Your bird looks amazing.

Just to make sure I am understanding what you did with the re-scribing the panel lines; you re-scribedtyem then sanded them? Is it that you're making a recessed line next to the raised line?

@@seanerk5kt9 Thanks for replying. Im just building up the courage to start mine, i only get one shot, and am not too sure how the revell kit will turn out and like a challenge. Was there much warping on your large parts? Or was it just poor fit. Take care
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 2 года назад
There was some warping that I recall. The kit has fit issues but that’s to be expected from an old revell kit . Re- scribing the panel lines was the most time consuming part of the build.

I'm kinda of new to your channel (few months) and I would like your input on a project I'm thinking about undertaking. I want to build a B-25J in 1/48 Monogram released many J model kits but their many decades old and w/ raised panel lines. I was thinking of taking a Accurate Miniatures B-25C/D kit as the base and remove the needed waist gun,tail turrets and forward located top turret from a Monogram kit and grafting them into the AM kit. I want to finish it in NMF so the final surface detail/finish is critical and IMO this route would reduce rescribing and defects that may be produced (I suck at scribing ). You seem to have way more experience in doing these kinds of builds and was wanting your opinion as to which route would be easier and yet produce the best detailed result when finished. I've been building 30-35 years off and on and fill confident I could manage it my weakest modeling skill is by far scribing everything else I'm content with. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated BTW the Blackbird is looking really good can't wait to see it when finished!
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 4 года назад
I’ve never built the accurate miniatures kit but I’ve heard a few bad things about it (poorly fitting parts). If it were me, I’d just use the monogram kit but you obviously have reservations about re-scribing so you’re kinda stuck having to choose between that or the difficulty in grafting the accurate miniatures kit. I personally would think that re-scribing the panel lines would be much easier. I know a lot of modelers aren’t comfortable re-scribing (I wasn’t either) but it’s one of those skills that just comes with practice and using the right tools. Hope that helps :)

From what kit do your pilots come? Or wich after market one would you recommand buying?? Thanks!!
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 4 года назад
I forgot what kit they came from....I did alter these by adding some putty to create the space type helmets. I’ve got a couple of Hasegawa crew sets that have some pilots in it and they’re ok. I typically save pilots from kits in which they’re not used and throw them in my spares. I find that Tamiya typically makes the best pilots outside of buying aftermarket resin ones.

Hi, Question 1: Are you satisfied with the details of this TESTOR kit? Question 2: Any missing parts from this kit? I'm asking because I was not satisfied from another F-5 Tiger TESTOR kit, not good details and there were missing parts. Thanks for the uploading!
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 3 года назад
I wouldn’t say I was satisfied as it’s an old kit and I expected there wouldn’t be the detail that you’d find in a newer more expensive kit. I haven’t had any issue with missing parts but I guess that could happen with any kit
