Whenever I watch one of these videos of abandoned places I recall a line from Dickens, A Christmas Carol. When Scrooge is taken by the Ghost of Christmas Past to his childhood the ghost reminds Scrooge that (I paraphrase) "These are but shadows of things that were." So I can imagine all the experiences that people had in these old buildings. Happiness, surprises, disappointments and sadness.....................things that were. Excellent video.
I so agree. I can stand in front of a building like this, and my brain will just take off, reconstructing ... and I can almost see ... it’s so eerie and beautiful that memories I don’t have start jumping out at me as though I’d been there myself ...
Check out some of the videos on youtube of the old Borscht belt hotels. Huge resorts that the film dirty dancing were based on. Completely abandoned now. Something sad about all the human experience that once happened there and now empty.
The cartoons are great! RIP Woolen. It's too bad about the condition of the hotels. I would like to have the butler and maid in my ( nonexistent ) large foyer lol.
Mary Pickford came to my mind, but once I saw someone wrote Clara Bow, I knew that was correct. Poor Clara. Hollywood treated her horribly. I have her biography Runnin Wild. I love it because I can relate to her and how she was treated by hollywood, as a similar dynamic played out with me, with my ex-husband and his family...almost destroyed me. That is a Great print of her! Lucky find.
Sad about the hotel. It deserves to be refurbished. Cool store! I saw a life sized xenomorph from the movie Alien once. If I had a few thousand dollars to throw away...I'd buy one just for the prank potential alone! LOL 🤣 Great video, thanks Oddie! My mom bought a "Day of the Dead" chicken figurine in October...don't ask me why. It's in the kitchen window with many other weird chickens. 🐓🐓🐓 My cats sleep all over me too. Nice drawing!
Glad you've posted another video 😃 looking forward to the next one! I noticed Camille Claudel was googles doodle for today so hopefully a lot more people can learn a bit about her and maybe find your video on her ❤
Love the video! 💙 I love your second cartoon! The little mouse is on his back from the cat litter box stench! I know that smell being a cat lover myself! Very well done! 💜 Thank you! 🌟
Would LOVE to see more of your cartoon drawings! You have a great gift! And to add to that a great since of humor! Thank you for sharing I enjoy all of your videos!!! God bless!
Oddy, love the "cranium catcap"! We've had many over the years. They come in assorted colors & textures. I see yours is also the deluxe model as it comes with the built in nasal drip catching top lip warmer🤣
19:40 LOLOLOL! Awesome art. You really need an art section on your Discord server so you can post these. With all the animals I've rescued and still have (I'm up to 8 dogs and 3 cats now)....I deal with entirely too much 💩!
The small bronze statue by the copper pots would be a great mate to one I have! Thank you for taking me shop looking and hotel adventures with you ❤Pamela
I love those big old clocks like that, over here we call them Grandfather Clocks. And I for one would love to see more of your cartoons, I got a chuckle out of your cat Woolen. I had a cat that would sleep on my head, she was a Ragdoll Siamese and we named her FeFe LaPew cause like a skunk she could clear the room with her toots!!! lol
What a beautiful Hotel, such a shame it abandoned, that’s a really cool store oddie, love the shaking butler lol. Did you feel them mannequins watching you? Creepy 😨 Thanks for sharing, once again - Brilliant 🦊
Great video I love those great old mansions those were the days I love the junk shop also also have a junk shop that’s a lots of fun looking for stuff to put in it
This was a remarkably beautiful hotel at one time. I love junk shop stores. Incredible video my friend. You're also a superb artist on your cartoons. Love that and love your videos!
I love that junk shop,it's fun spending time looking around, your cartoon is great,my cat loves to sleep on my neck. As always I enjoyed this very much,oh that hotel looked great the one you had to your selves
Your drawings are excellent Oddie I for one would like to see more. I could listen to you for hours. I have been going through all your great works again, yes been 3hours of listening to you. Thank you Oddie for all the work you do your the best. I think that card you showed us was amazing thank you for sharing.
Fascinating how neglect and abandon is turned over to mother nature who then does what she will. Fun curio shop, and I love the cat turds atop Woolen's relief box. I love cats.
Thanks for takn us along Mr.Oddie.That hotel was just magnificent wish you got access to the interior. That photo from 1926 WOW what a looker her eyes looked color even in black n white..Peace..
It seems you've always kept an outlet for your artistry! The videos show that you've found a new way to express your art. I, for one, and very happy you're doing videos. I enjoy them so much, and you seem to always capture the things I would be most interested in!
Oddie, you're quite the artist!!! You should do more, it's such a wonderful chronicle of moments captured on paper. Loved it! I do hope I can catch your future live stream, I'll be looking for my notification!
Oddie- our cat does that! He lies above my head and it looks like I am wearing a fur hat - lol 😂! He always tries to catch warmth from either me or my husband! He a cutie ! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
How did I miss this video?? Oh, well. I love the subject so a belated thank you, Oddie. Yep. That portrait photo is to DIE for. Cats are heatamaniacs, indeed!😁 LOVE your cartoons!😂
I agree it would take loads of money to restore the old house. Loved the old shakeing butler & the cute lil maid. Yes please more cartoons!!! If cats sleep in your bed you never know where they end up......my dog too. Tour was great! Time to start wishing MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!
Thank you for videos, gives me a break from my miserable circumstances, I really like your patience dezcribing the locations. You have a blessed life sir , sometimes I wish I could just transport to time and place of your topics, thank you for giving some of us an escape for a short while.
Just a thanks for sharing your holiday adventure, so many wonderful places. Anyhow I wish to you and yours a most Happy Christmas Season and all the best for the year a head-Cheers!
I really like the butler with the "shakes". It seems like he should have a name like "Jeeves" or such like. :-) When I was about 7 or 8 and doing some Christmas shopping at the mall with my grandmother, she accidentally bumped into a mannequin almost toppling it, and with my grandmother's good Southern manners, she said, "Oh pardon me, excuse me!" to the mannequin! People noticed and pointed at her in the mall and said, "There's the lady who talked to the mannequin!" My grandmother was so embarrassed. lol One year, my brothers and I were playing a modified game of baseball in the house while the parents were out. It was my turn to bat and we were using one of my dad's golf putters the bat. Forgetting that the antique grandfather clock was behind me, I took a big swing at the ball and the putter slammed into the glass behind me! Needless to say, I caught hell when my parents got home, and I got a big spanking (which I totally deserved). Lesson learned: Do.Not.Play.Ball. In. The. House. Again. Such a shame about the first hotel and the B&B behind it. The hotel you stayed at was gorgeous! What a treat to have it all to yourselves! :-D My cats love to sleep at the top of my head as well as my husband's during the winter. We call them "Cat Hats". lol "Woolen" sounds like she was a darling kitty and the cartoons were a scream! :-) The second one looks like my husband and I when we first married and the noxious fumes emanated from the cat box in the corner of the bedroom. lol
Nice different tour of second hand shop in Europe.Love the stories of the many strange and fascinating people. I've told a number of friends about your channel because I know they'll appreciate it. Stay safe.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing these videos. I could never afford to travel to these places, and I appreciate you showing such well-researched places and objects.
Another great video. And wonderful cartoons at the end. Sleeping on/near their parents heads must be a trait of longlived cats. My cat, Skeeter (lasted 17 good years) did the same. I woke up many times to her chewing my hair, or with her dainty nose crammed in my ear at full purr. I miss that stinker.
You are a talented man Oddie! Cartoons were quite good! Let’s see some more! That junk sho was pretty clean and neat. I liked how the mannequins were wearing furs with nothing underneath. That’s how I like to wear mine! lol
Look at the ghost in min. 8:32 Lol !! 🤣 So I like this singular place with the store, with those funny mannequins, great clocks and toys. Thanks for sharing !! PS I've some vintage pics, I'd can send you them in digital way.
Oddy, your video was outstanding, as always! I'm born & raised in Southern California. I've never really "traveled". At 58 on social security I doubt I ever will. It has always been my dream to see the world, especially Europe. I'm basically a European mutt, a mix of German, Italian, English, Irish, Scottish & who knows what else. How I would love to be there but, at least I can see some cool sights through my buddy Oddy! Fantastic! ❤
Love your cartoons of Woolen. I have 4 inside my trailer. I can relate to the 1 cartoon about needing oxygen. Lol Thanks again for all your great videos. Love them. Take care Merry Christmas n God bless
Nice gramophone in that store. I love clocks as well, but not many of us want them. I have over 100 clocks, over 50 gramophones, they are so inexpensive, but wonderful machines! I love your junk store videos.
oddie, loved the cat cartoons! I have 2 dogs & one cat & I know how crazy it is sleeping in a room w/a litter box! I liked very much the junk store & if I had been there I certainly would have bought one or two of those beer steins & the porcelain cask for licquor. Could have spent all day in the junk store. Such a shame about the hotel, I just love those old buildings. ty for the video
Another great video Oddie , those old buildings were awesome. I could spend the day ( and a bundle of money ) in a shop like that . I really liked the cat cartoons especially the 2nd one , " San Quentin Gas Chamber " with the dead mouse on the floor LOL . Keep up the great work !
I knew you could draw! I love the gas mask cartoon! Lucky you I KNEW it was another talent! Yes please share them. Are you musical? We know you write well and I suspected you drew and painted and so I expect you're musical- fortunate people like you are so oft proficient in all the arts and math. Woolen is a nifty name too, beats "mittens"- could I get a cartoon of a certain politician?!can't wait for feedback on the pre-Christmas chat- I am not on Twitter tho- could you maybe post some of the hi-lites for the rest of us? The Oddite community is full of interesting folks.
I just found you on RU-vid and Patreon as well! I absolutely adore how informative and educational your videos are so thank you for taking the time to investigate and put out content!
What a fascinating video! The hotel is still lovely, and it's sad that it's been gutted. The store was really interesting, and impressive. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank You Oddie I Love The Old Clocks When I Was a Child I Always Hid In All My Grandparents Grandfather Clocks all about the mansion and my cousin Debra could never find me, no one could Such Fun🤣 💚💜🤗🥰
Have to say, love the front door of the 1st abandoned hotel. Really beautiful! You should have pulled up in your old jalopy. Wouldn’t it have been fun to see any reactions! Introduce yourself as Mr. Obsolete lol I would take the Betty Boops from that store. Boop boop de boop! She was really risqué for that time period. Thanks for sharing your fun cartoons. Definitely show us more! All in all such a delight to see these hotels by a bygone era. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️
My maiden name is Kleinlein. When I saw the clocks it reminded me of my ancestors. They lived in Germany and were clock makers. It so breaks my heart to see such magnificent buildings in rubbish. I try to picture in my mind the happier times of such places. Such a shame. Thank You for sharing.
Thank you, Oddie, for sharing all your wonderful adventures with us and all the wonderful research and interesting history in your videos. God bless you and your family and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and everyone. 🎄
That was a very interesting trip Oddbod. Such a shame that Hotel is dropping to bits. Loved the mannequins oooh I could have taken all of those home with me. At the moment I just have my Mannequin Hubby, sat in the same old position on the sofa, he sometimes moves his eyes as well. He does have an automated walking button which takes him up to bed at night, so he is not too much trouble, really. Bless him. Love your comical drawings, my Grandad used to draw the same sort of stuff. He was asked once to draw comic strips for the Guardian Newspaper in London. He declined as he would have to move to London. He much preferred The Derbyshire Dales. Thank you so much Oddbod for all you do, the trips you take us all on, and you wonderful sense of humour. Love n hugs x
Love your sense of humor with your cartoons and sweet way to remember your late kitty! Thanks for showing us around these beautiful buildings! It is heartbreaking that some of these have been abandoned! Thank you for another great video! Hope you and Oddette are doing well! 😁❤️
Those cartoons are so cute, and I love the way you showed the mouse passed out just at the entrance of the mouse hole. You are very talented and you should draw some more of these wonderful pictures.
Thanks for this tour , Oddie. Indeed, the Waldust Hotel immediately reminds you of " The Shining " ! I also recommend the very interesting documentary " Room 237 " but I suppose you've seen it. There's something sad about black and white vintage photos. You don't know who the people are, who they're related to but they belonged somewhere. As you said, " nothing is sacred anymore ".
We used to measure how cold it was, by how many cats hopped in bed with us. It was on a scale of 0-3 , 3 was when temps dropped to -20° F《with or without wind chill》.I really enjoy your stories & videos. Please keep up the good work. Thanks so much for sharing.❄💙😸✌🏻
Yes I would love to see more cartoons. Those were good. I love antique shops. Flea markets too. I live in the states. We have thrift shops also. I like those the most, you can get something really cheap because they dont know what they have where an antique shop would. Love your video's.
