Revenue Sharing to Force Notre Dame to Big Ten

Notre Dame football will no longer be able to remain a college football Independent once a settlement is reached in the House vs NCAA antitrust lawsuit. The fruit of this suit will start the unprecedented era of revenue sharing among major athletic departments and its student athletes.
REVENUE SHARING
While Notre Dame receives substantial revenue from NBC for its football broadcast rights and media rights money from the ACC for its non-football sports, there will not be enough money for them to survive once each major school is forced to shell out 30 million dollars a year for the next 10 years as part of a revenue share settlement.
MORE MONEY ELSEWHERE
Joining a major conference like the Big Ten with much higher TV revenues will be Notre Dame's only business model for survival. Surely we will get hate mail from the Golden Domers who insist Notre Dame will be an Independent until the end of time. But the times in college football are changing too fast. Adapt or die.
PORTAL NEWS
We also bounce around transfer portal news by checking in at Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State and Northwestern. There are some interesting developments there.
OREGON SELLING OUT!

Dumb question, but I thought ND signed a contract with the ACC that "if they ever join a conference" it had to be the ACC. Sounds dumb, but I remember the ACC making a big deal out of it years ago.

I hope ND joins the BIG, they have a rich football tradition along with great academics. BIG conference would have a claim to being the best football conference if The BIG adds ND and Florida State. BIG conference would span from the West to the East, the North to the South. With schools like USC, Ohio State, ND, Michigan, Florida State, Penn State, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin how could the sec claim to be the Best?

This and strength of schedule will be the only reasons they'll be forced to join the B1G after the ACC implodes. Right now the SEC keeps throwing them lifelines. I think that stops after revenue sharing or after their NBC deal expires in 2029.
@kaioh187

I am a Notre Dame fan and I agree with you. Notre Dame will probably join the BIG 10 as soon as the ACC collapses. Revenue sharing will ensure that Notre Dame stays in a conference for eternity.
@heartbreak25
@heartbreak25 26 дней назад
@@kaioh187 I think more and more fans are coming around to the idea of joining the B1G. My thing is that the mystique of the program doesn't end. Playing five B1G games is way better than five ACC. Plus the rivalry with USC naturally carries over. And if FSU and Miami joins, you'd be playing a national schedule and still preserve some type of partnership with NBC who is now a B1G broadcaster. And if the issue is Michigan, I mean, no one likes Michigan. LOL!
@kaioh187
@kaioh187 26 дней назад
I agree with you and I am a Notre Dame fan. I want Miami and Florida State to both join the BIG 10. Notre Dame please join a conference and revenue sharing will see to that in the next 5-10 years. Notre Dame joining the SEC would be cool but I will take the BIG 10.
@ChrisSadowski-pp1np

Joining the BIG makes the most sense for ND, but if the ACC implodes they could always do a scheduling agreement with the big 12. USC would always play them even if the BIG goes to a 10-game conference schedule.

@@ChrisSadowski-pp1np The SOS in the Big 12 is worse than the ACC. I don't see how the B1G or SEC allow a 1 loss Irish to get into the playoffs or have a higher seeding than a two loss P2 school.

I have heard ND to the Big 10 since Penn State joined. Wake me up when and if it finally happens.My opinion is even if the ACC goes Lusitania or Hindenburg like the PAC went Titanic ( which I doubt), ND is so stubborn they would choose the SEC or the Big XII under a similar ( or more favorable) deal to the ACC just so they don’t have to join the Big 10. Let’s focus realignment talk on schools that actually want to join like Florida State, Miami and maybe even Texas A&M.
@TheLAGopher
@TheLAGopher 26 дней назад
Going Big 12 out of spite gives ND no bargaining power with Fox because there are even less Brands there than the ACC minus FSU and Clemson. Going SEC is going to tick off NBC which has a relationship with the B1G and not the SEC. ND could go SEC and give up every lucrative existing rivalry including with FSU and Stanford while the SEC would be making a 180 degree turn from being a regional conference
@davidbrown386
@davidbrown386 26 дней назад
Look at the map. Indiana is right next to Kentucky, so ND makes sense for the SEC. I am one who would gladly swap out ND to the SEC in exchange for A&M to the Big 10. Why? ND would give the Big 10 three teams in Indiana and I would rather have a flagship school in Texas for recruiting purposes ( as well as TV and building a National Conference). As far as rivalries are concerned, FSU is no big rival of ND. Even Pitt is a bigger ND rival then FSU ( and yes, Penn State) and as a Penn State guy I hate admitting that.

I was just at the Directors of Football Operations Meeting (DFO) in Frisco a few days ago & you could not be more wrong. The DFO is the group who gets things done & makes major decisions for all the conferences, teams, TV deals & rules. It was unanimous, so every person representing every conference, that Notre Dame’s Independence was secure with the new TV deal, the new CFP format, & their own revenue stream. And the fact they were able to get other teams left out into the ACC, helped keep the in-place CFP agreement. So everyone can do their clickbait hot takes. But the actual decision makers just met the past week & and openly discussed ND’s independence being secure. If you don’t believe me, ask John Brice (who also was there) from Pro Football Scoop.

ND by contact must join the ACC in football if they choose to lose independence, that was part of the ND deal with the ACC for non football sports. IMO, the B1G is going to go BIG & add 6 teams (not all of them at a full share under the existing contract). I fully expect that both FSU & Clemson will land in the SEC (ESPN doesn’t want to let those teams go to Fox, & the SEC needs to add strong regional brands to keep up w/ the B1G). After adding ND, I’m not sure how much it matters who they add (obviously stronger brands are better, but the B1G might just add solid teams from AAU schools in big TV markets). I expect UVa to join plus some constellation of UNC, Duke, GT, Miami, Stanford, & Cal with BC, Pitt, & Utah as some real dark horse candidates to take the conference up to 24 teams.

Your description of what is going to happen in settlement talks in a specific lawsuit are extremely unlikely. A specific group of one's having been gored is not gonna define the future of collegiate athletics. Because there are a lot of other ones out there who will then file suit about how this doesn't benefit them. And state legislatures passing laws that will prevent the "settlement " taking effect in their state to the detriment of their universities. Not to mention how this impact the litigation field involving Title 9 i.e. out with proprtional particiation, in with "show me the money". In the end, for better or worse, Congress will need to come up with a law that satisfies no one, but will be tolerated by most.

Seems ..based on your scenario…after things settle …the conferences will implode from within..with the weak sisters dying off…for inability to keep up! Every conference has some weak sisters….that will have to be subsidized to keep up…as Vanderbilt and Wake and Indiana and Nebraska…etc….When smaller markets can no longer compete on NIL …they are just going to bottom feeders! Fodder for the big boys….which they have been for years….but now 30% +poorer with revenue sharing, etc. At some point ESPN is going to redo their revenue sharing/ contracts based on a floating program…that pays only for viewership. You bring eyeballs ..you get paid. Because they are losing money…I can see them paying by ratings…maybe a base pay plus a % of revenue generated by advertisers / ratings…..example….pay all teams $20 million and the rest of your pay is based TV ratings and eyeballs watched….with local revenue generated kept by the schools! Makes sense …and the branded programs will love this! Not so much the teams that don’t grow their viewership and local advertisers/alumni. A few have ‘sugar daddy’s’ but some will bite the dust.
