Florida State and Clemson are NOT good for the Big Ten. They are, as we used to say about the school down south, "know nothing party schools". Let the Big 10 STAND FOR something, like genuine student athletes getting an education, not football factories.
Well, for all you FSU nut huggers out there; the Big10, SEC, Big12, and ESPN have all joined in the ACC’s lawsuit against Florida’s AG Moody for making the GOR public. To me that states that there is no invite pending from the Big10 or the SEC to FSU once they’re out of the ACC. My thoughts, FSU will end up in the Big12.
As a Penn State Football fan, I would definitely enjoy watching Florida State and Clemson come to the Big 10 with Notre Dame, Miami (FL), North Carolina, and either/or Georgia Tech or Virginia.
Tarheel on every related expansion podcast trying to disparage FSU...interesting that Craig keeps beating the drum of value of NC, when they bring no tv ratings, apathetic football fan support, and are not very competitive on the football field. Tarheel can talk himself in circles trying to downplay FSU, but those who follow folks that actually have media contacts have been adamant that FSU and the Big10 is a perfect fit that FOX really would love to have..NC will have a landing spot because of history more so than what they actually bring.
Actually, I maintain that FSU is among the ACC members that should be safe in this P2 consolidation, at least would have been. I do push back on FSU and its's fans' delusion and stupidity. That you can't see the difference examples the FSU conceit.
If this is true about the SEC, I wonder what kind of a deal FSU and Clemson can expect to get. If Fox only adds half shares for each program for the remainder of the contract, will these teams be happy making half of what Northwestern and Rutgers make?
They are not getting into the B10 because they are not AAU. You’ll find reports all over saying it doesn’t matter. It does. Nebraska during the Covid pandemic threatening to play their own schedule didn’t help matters in the perception of “They aren’t one of us”. The people making these decisions are not football people and it’s not football reasons that will decide it. It’s not even TV money. Shared research money among B10 members dwarfs athletic money. B10 more likely to take NC, Duke, Virginia, & maybe Georgia Tech or Miami. Clemson & FSU have no chance, at least in the short term. And it will nothing to do w/ football.
I don't think it's that simple for the B1G at this stage. It is very feasible that the B1G will decide to move down its priority list if higher priorities aren't available, even at the cost of making exceptions that it would not have in the past. ND is clearly not available. UNC appears to not be available. UVA is either not available or is less attractive without UNC (as is DUKE), etc.
The SEC will take Florida State because they have to keep their ratio of teams that have maroon as a school color at 40% of the conference. Also, the SEC will compulsively have to take Clemson. They’re not enough tigers in the conference.😊
ND, FSU, UNC, and Clemson to the B1G to maximize their revenue for sports AND academics. The SEC can have NC St, UVA, Kansas, and Utah, since they need to expand their regional footprint and ESPN is a broke failing organization.
If the B1G is now focused on FSU and CLEMSON, it is treating UNC (and perhaps UVA) as lost to the SEC, which would stand pat if only FSU & CLEMSON are leaving the ACC.
@@roris5882 I'm a fan (and one could say a professional general analyst) that is simply reconciling history, actual recent events, and credible reporting. FSU and (especially) CLEMSON would be huge exceptions (per my understanding) of the B1G's historical preferences. This suggests better options being unavailable and a compelling need.
@@tarheel7406 Yes, Clemson isn't the B1G's usual type, but this is a rare circumstance to hit the SEC personally by moving into their backyard. The B1G has the academic resources to help Clemson improve their academics and eventually get them their AAU membership because of their monopoly over the organization.
@@roris5882 The SEC doesn't care if the B1G adds CLEMSON. Doing so likely removes it as a long-term competitor, allowing the SEC to focus on other expansion targets and existing members. CLEMSON has been a founding member of the ACC and associated with UVA et. al. for decades. Either its mission or culture doesn't reconcile with higher academic or AAU ambitions. Pursuing AAU, etc. just to help athletic ambitions is unlikely to end well. Based on my sample digging, the core B1G schools are already waning (or will soon wane) academically anyway due to stagnant and aging populations. The B1G's corruption of the AAU is one of the reasons I prefer UNC go SEC.
Howard was a 59% passer because their WR room was below average. Ohio State's 5-Star WRs will catch everything close to them. Howard also has a Power Five Conference title to his credit
I have a better idea. Instead of doing a huge payoff, let Clemson and Florida State stay in the ACC, but give them extra money when they play the Big Ten & SEC. We do this every time we play those tiny schools. This would give the money directly to Clemson and Florida St. and let the other schools suffer with their meager income from the ACC contract.
Interesting.... Some generic payment may be covered by conference level contracts; however, giving 100% of the gate to a visiting CLEMSON or FSU may work.
FSU alum here… no desire for the SEC, boring games we’ve already played for decades. The BIG10 would be amazing, FSU vs Ohio State, USC, Michigan… awesome matchups!
As an SEC fan, my preference has always been for North Carolina and Kansas. Already in South Carolina and Florida, and the basketball would be amazing.
Neither FSU nor Clemson joins the Big Ten until either gains AAU status. The former is a distinct possibility, the latter a longshot. Other ACC possibles include UNC, UVa, Georgia Tech and Miami (if FSU doesn't qualify).
I wish more people understood this. It isn’t going to be a football decision as the people making it care very little about football. My only disagreement is FSU possibly getting AAU status. They’ve been trying, unsuccessfully, for years.
Ya'll talking about all this nonsense about FSU and Clemson to the little 10 is just laughable. Anyone with any common sense knows that both of them are headed to the SEC because no way does the ESPN let their biggest TV viewership numbers in the ACC just freely go to the little 10 without one hell of a fight to keep them by sliding them into the SEC.
ESPN only cares about the remaining terms of its existing contracts and maintaining relationships for the next deals. The conferences care about forever. What's laughable is thinking that a conference that is relatively secure for the foreseeable future will make a short-term decision at the expense of the much longer-term.
@@tedharris8244 One can't teach a pig to sing. Neither the SEC nor B1G is going to make a forever decision just to please their current broadcast partners. The broadcasters only advise as to the effects of an expansion and either agree or not to finance immediately. The conferences decide if an expansion will finance itself over the long-term. It's okay, it's common to laugh at things one doesn't understand.
@@tedharris8244 Apparently not. Dogs wag tails, not the reverse. I will acknowledge that broadcaster objections may delay an action or cause inaction, but conferences will not act just because a broadcaster wants.
Why would Clemson state that there is no genuine issue of material fact? That seems the last thing that they would want to do. It is Clemson who wants to try the case in front of the judge, not the ACC. I think that this invites a motion for summary judgement by the ACC that should be successful, if it is really true that there is no genuine issue of material fact. This a state, not a federal case, although I assume that this is not a jury trial question in South Carolina.
SEC not going after FSU because they already have UF is silly. Florida is the 3rd largest state. You take both schools. Clemson is the more valuable school in SC. I don't buy the SEC not being interested. UNC is a wildcard because I don't think they're leaving
"Not interested" is likely a relative term. In reality, the SEC has no interest in expanding until UNC is secured (or perhaps lost). After that, the SEC will revisit.
@@encycl07pedia- Do you even listen to the reporters, etc. that are covering the ACC angle? Often they will primarily discuss FSU and CLEMSON, but still almost always note that UNC (and often UVA) are actually the top targets. One can call that a "blurb". Not much news on ND either, but it is also one of the top actual dominos. Just delusional.
@@jcfilms4433 ESPN rents conferences. So many of you continue to think statically and from within the dying P5 world. ESPN would clearly like to ride out its deeply discounted ACC deal, but we seem to be operating under the assumption that isn't an option.
I'm guessing more that it will be a base pay, then incentives. For example, everybody gets a base $20 mil (or whatever), then depending on how your Foosball, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball goes, you get a percentage for each. Foosball gets the lion's share, and that gets split for performance. Basketball gets a certain amount, gets split for performance, etc etc
He's saying that FSU and Clemson is the best fit in the Big 10 but you're right the Big 10 has to want them and I don't think they do. Neither one is in the AAU and the Big 10 has better options that are in the AAU.
I maintain that the B1G's top priorities are ND, UVA & UNC. While all three remain outside of the P2, would the B1G just wait to keep 4 slots open (including a slot for ND's demanded +1)?
@@tarheel7406 That's a good question. I think if the ACC implodes the Big 10 and SEC would act quickly. The schools that I see adding value are Clemson, NC , GT, FSU, Miami and UVA. Not sure how they will they will get split up. I also think ND has a spot in Big 10 whenever they're ready
@@ronwilde1595 It would be foolish for the SEC and B1G to not be prepared to invite all schools that are of high interest to both as soon as each became willing/able to accept. I can't see any school in that position being willing to wait very long for the other to make its offer nor be willing to accept a partial share. I'm near 100% certain that UNC confirmed pending invites from both as a Plan B soon after the TX/OK news, with details revised as the story has progressed. ND has also had a standing from the B1G. The rest are likely contingent on how these 2 and other schools scatter.
Good for any school. Big ten tv contracts are the best in the country. Big ten is very competitive in all sports. Not many cupcakes and give me games. It makes sense for all. Big ten get southern exposure also
This is what I have been saying for a while. Eventually the Big10 and SEC are going to have 24 teams and then look at the bottom layer of non football power teams and kick them out. All the talk about research, etc. has nothing to do with the split of football money. It's all about money from football and teams that aren't contributing will eventually get kicked out. Same in the SEC - Vandy, Missouri, Arkansas and even Texas A&M will end up on the chopping block. There are plenty of AAU academic schools around the country, that won't change but their conference affiliation will.
Florida State and Clemson would be crazy to go into the Big Ten. The SEC is the superior conference and both schools have natural rivalries within the SEC.
Florida State and Clemson would be crazy to go into the Big Ten. The SEC is the superior conference and both schools have natural robberies within the SEC.
Being a DUCK fan (class of ‘67) looking forward to watching more Big 10 football games. Especially watching The DUCKS Dominate in the Big 10. GO DUCKS 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
The P2 will have the brand gravity to remain stable but will sub-divide regionally. The Tier 2s will not have such gravity, and the BIG12 is already too large/wide.
@@gforce55 There's a chance that after the Tier 1 consolidates to ~48 teams total that a new western and a new eastern conference are created, but I doubt it. EDIT: If these "new" conferences could retain the rights to "PAC" and "ACC", it would be more likely.
Im sure espn will put up little fight and allow fsu and clemson to go to the B1G which is owned by FOX. No biggie. Im sure FOX wont mind paying an additional $140m a year for a Northwestern v fsu matchup. Sounds like amazing business plan.😂😂😂
lol. Alabama, Georgia, and LSU are the only SEC teams worth mentioning. There's a reason the past 9 (!!!) SEC Championships have involved two of Alabama or LSU vs. Florida or Georgia, save a Georgia-Auburn matchup in that time period. The SEC is full of Northwesterns.
@@encycl07pedia- i agree with you...both sec and big are top heavy and are boring to watch. I havent watch a bigten game in years and only a few sec games
North Carolina won't kill the ACC. They will find a way to keep it together until all the leagues go away and something else forms 10, 20 years from now or sooner that are destined to happen.. Florida Lite is having some real problems right now because FOX and the B1G decided to back ESPN and the ACC with their TV contracts. FSU better calm down before it gets too late and do what they are told by FOX and ESPN. Florida Lite is making a fool of themselves. The SEC doesn't want Lite. So why would the B1G overpay when they have no competition to grab that program? Why would they pay a ton of money when they dont have to? FSU is being a 🤡 and everyone is watching. 🍿
Florida Lite??? Here are UF’s in-state rivalry highlights from the past half century - you tell me who’s the “lite” program in the state: -Last in the state to win a natty (despite being oldest program) - Drops Miami in the 80s to avoid an annual loss - Only two out-of-state non-conference regular season games since 1991 (both losses) - All-time losing record to Miami - Losing record to FSU since Bowden took over in the 1970s (FSU was a doormat prior to that) - Spurrier went 5-10-1 against FSU and Miami and needed 8 quarters against FSU to win his natty What’s more, FSU has spent 72 weeks ranked #1 in the AP poll (only 5 other teams have more) - UF only 41 weeks. FSU has 45 consensus all-Americans, UF 34. FSU 49 bowl games, UF 48. What’s amazing about these stats is that UF has an almost 50 year head start on FSU playing football. Once FSU joins the B1G the disparity will only increase - more affluent conference, higher profile slate of matchups, and a national conference footprint to spread the already more iconic FSU brand far and wide (everyone knows the tomahawk chop - the Gator chomp not so much). Meanwhile, UF will be stuck with second-tier status to the bubbas in Bama and Georgia, all the while continuing to lose to and fall further behind FSU and Miami (which by the way you’re going 0-2 against this year)…and then there’s UCF closing in fast. I suggest you keep your emotions in check.
UNC's efforts to save the ACC as a peer Tier 1 ended with the +3 expansion over objections or shortly before. It has now moved to Plan B, including dealing with political interference.
FSU and Clemson will choose nothing. The conference will choose them. From what I've heard ... conspiracy theory warning ... the Big 10 and SEC has already got together and are putting these teams into the Big 10. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with the strength of the teams. Today's Big Bad team may be at the bottom of the barrel in 10 years. This is about TV market share. It always has been.
😂 The spin job continues “If you look at Clemson and Florida State, there are no two better fits in the world to the SEC than those two,” Finebaum said on First Take. “I mean they’ve won national championships in the last 10 years. They recruit at the highest level. They have good coaches. They have phenomenal traditions. And they’re both in states with SEC schools.” - Finebaum (August 2023)
“SEC has no interest” is rank spin. Paul Finebaum (August 2023): “If you look at Clemson and Florida State, there are no two better fits in the world to the SEC than those two,” Finebaum said on First Take. “I mean they’ve won national championships in the last 10 years. They recruit at the highest level. They have good coaches. They have phenomenal traditions. And they’re both in states with SEC schools.”
Paul Finebaum (Sep 2023): "Although I think of the three schools that matter in the ACC, I think FSU is at the bottom of the most desired, favored nation list. What I keep hearing from people is that nobody in the league that matters liked what they did at that board of trustees meeting and they felt like, do you want to invite a group that, you know, has an 'Animal House' toga party right in the middle (of realignment) for everybody to see on Facebook Live? And that really went down poorly. I know I don’t think anyone really thought that was a great idea. But I think at least in the moment, it hurt FSU. And I think another thing - and this is where North Carolina shines - is that I really think the SEC likes the idea of these prominent, premier state universities, like Oklahoma, like Texas, like Florida, like the University of North Carolina."
@@LoCoVANole Just pitiful.... FSU is amateur, but even it eventually realized that the SEC had low interest and falling. We'll know for sure if FSU lands in the BIG12 or is forced to take a phased in share. Would have been so much better for FSU to have accepted its priority and worked to strengthen options.
@@tarheel7406 will worry about what it looked like after we’re gone. UNC should be great full for opening the exit door. Everyone look, it’s a talking goat😲
@@tarheel7406 So what happening between you duke & nc state. Are you married, divorcing or what? Who got cheated on? UNC should be great full for FSU opening the door to more money as long as your own politicians don’t get in the way. Good luck with that. Everyone look!!! A talking goat🤭
I see Florida State and Miami and Clemson. Been saying it for like over half a year or longer now. Why? 1) They want out of the ACC/ESPN contract 2) They have big time athletic/football brands 3) Location, location, location - in areas The Big Ten isn’t yet, areas with growing populations and viewers and recruits 4) All 3 are good enough academically and research-wise. 5) Those areas have many Big Ten Country transplants or snowbirds who add to the views. I see adding Notre Dame to those 3, then up to 2 more likely out West, like a Utah or Stanford or Kansas. Or, if they don’t go West again, how about adding North Carolina and North Carolina State?
As long as Miami comes in at some point with the South Benders then I'm fine stopping at 22. I think it'd be a mistake for the B1G not to lock down Florida simply because of grabbing what's available in the moment. FSU is a no brainer but I'm not a fan of getting Clemson.
FSU has always preferred the BIG. The reason is not what those of us watching this might expect- they want to be part of the BIG research consortium. To FSU that’s just as if not more important than the athletics.
I can see some truth in this. The BTAA is not really material, but the B1G's academic branding is. FSU is not a legacy academic (nor athletic) brand, and the SEC is a downgrade in academic association. FSU may feel that improvements are at risk. UTAH is in a similar situation.
@@encycl07pedia- Clearly you [can't] identify a lie and likely don't know what a "lie" is. What I've come to expect from the majority of FSU defenders.
@@None-dj8iy You will have to do better. It's my understanding that efforts for just a scheduling agreement between the PAC and B1G failed for years, yet now going "national" is the ticket?
