Hehe that’ll be fun. I don’t even have an empty room my boundary goes over furniture haha. Having problems with blurr on the g2 tho I just bought it. Like only truly clear straight ahead makes me feel like I need glasses
Just received my G2. Finally!! Thank you so much for your great reviews and tutorials like this one. Super helpful. Love your channel. A very happy subscriber!
Alright here I am back but this time to set up my new G2! Just got it hooked up to my PC. I'm sure glad our Man Steve has done all these fine how to videos to help us with getting our headsets set up to the best degree possible! Thanks Steve!!!
wow! It was great! I had been playing in vr wrongly since the beginning. I fixed the percentage of resolution in steam VR and now I got no more flickering and shakings. Thanks for that! I had always wondered why I wasn't able to get decent and constant FPS in VR. I got a Bulk Machine, i9 9900k at 5.0, 64GB memory, RTX2080TI. It's amazing now.
Thanks for putting this together, I was struggling to get any sort of usable frame rate on xplane, even with core i10 processor and 2080 super GPU. I was getting severe stuttering and it was totally unusable. SteamVR resolution, OpenXR Developer tools, enabling Motion Smoothing, adjusting xplane Visual Effects slider to anything less than High just nailed it. Instantly silky smooth at 50FPS. And Aerofly FS2, how amazing is that, silky smooth, clear, bright and vibrant, and 90 FPS, amazing. Those G2 controller bindings, they're a mess man, did you manage to get them better configured? Keep up the good work, this video really made a difference to me!
Hi Steve, thank you very much for this great informations, its very interesting that the half resolution had not so much influence on the fps, sadly bestware emailed me today that there is a massive delay on deliver
You saved me from returning my G2 Followed all the instructions to set it up but when it came to running steam games they were totally unusable with massive stutter and indeed crashes. The simple change to the video setting you gave fixed all the stuttering. I still had sound cut in and out which also caused crashes but changing to manual select speaker and microphone settings fixed the sound issues. Now like most I wait patiently for MSFS 2020 VR. I have very high hopes it will be anything close to current incredible visuals.
Another very helpful video Steve! We received an email this evening to inform us that the G2 will not be with us until 1st December! This is the 7th delay since ordering on the day that the G2 was announced! HP might make brilliant headsets but they have treated us very badly with their stream of misinformation and delays. Given that the G2 is arriving all over the world our place at the back of the queue in the UK speaks volumes for just how our place in the world has slipped.
Nice video overall, I didn't know about the OpenXR thing, very usefull! Just one pointer, room-scale setup recomends tracking your space with the headset pointing inward to the PC (or to what you marked as your center) instead of pointing away from it. Thanks for the info!
beautiful design on those hand controllers (touch sensors). I was taking a close look at this video and they've really hidden the capacitive touch sensors very well embedding them somewhere that 's hard to make it out. Great design and great hiding of certain components including the Capacitive button sensors.
Thanks for all the VR guides, very useful and now my G2 is running very smoothly in MSFS. But one thing I couldn't nail, the cockpit stutter. I tried lowering both rendering resolution and custom render scale to minimum, but the cockpit still stutter, especially if I move my head instead of turning my head in the A320Neo cockpit. Do you have any solution to this? I suspect it's something to do with head tracking. Thanks
Got mine today - 700 notes on ebay Only been used for 5hrs by previous owner. mint and looking good so far on my 3090. will fiddle with settings per sim tonight and videos being made tomorrow.
WOW Steve, that all looks bloody complicated! Please don't loose this video, I will definitely have to refer to it again when I go VR in the Spring, assuming I can get hold of an RTX card that is lol. Well done mate and regards, Paul :-)
Haha cheers Paul, sometimes I wonder whether it would be easier to just learn to fly lol. This video isn't going anywhere so don't worry. Glad I can help.
Thank for this video, Steve! You should update this video regarding the steamVR resolution though. It's not a bug, it's correct because of the "barrell distortion". Or put a disclaimer in ;) A video about setting the G2 up for DCS would be awesome! :D
If you could do a guide to getting the G2 and controllers set up in xplane it would be great! I had a samsung odyssey and couldn't do it, so I sold it...
Oh nice. Didn’t bow about the open Xr thing. Yeah I seen the resolution was set to high myself. My sim titles looked incredible though but only ran 60fps average with a 2080ti overclocked. Good stuff thanks!
When you select motion smoothing in steam VR, is it using the WMR implementation of motion smoothing? Isn't it something like async space warp like on oculus? I've never liked the async reprojection implementation on the vive
regarding the steamvr setting 'render resolution - resolution per eye setting' i read in a technical article that you're not really setting the resolution there for you're headset (like a monitor), but that it has more to do with the resolution steamVR processes it before it warps and twists the image before rendering it suitable for vr... which is why the steamvr never shows you're actual headset resolution... i dunno... but that's my current understanding of it..(or is it just a pixel density setting where the resolutions are unclear?)
Nice! Liked and subscribed! One thing people might not know, you need to download and install the mixed reality portal app for steam in order for steam to recognize the headset... Took me a minute to figure that out. Luckily there was a forum post that I was able to Google for it.
Hello! Great video! I was wondering if you would know why my G2 is only working in my right eye, the left is black and whit vertical lines. I’m connecting it to a MSI GS76 laptop through a adapter to a usb C port. HP sent me a new cable but it didn’t solve the problem. I know the port works because I’ve used it with a Quest 2 headset. I just can’t get the G2 to work correctly! Also I know the G2 works because I tried it on a different laptop that has a display port. I just can’t get it to work on this more powerful laptop that has a RTX 3080 card in it! Any ideas? Thx
Mine came totally out of the blue on Saturday at 9am 😁, was in bed, good job I didn't miss it, absolutely love the visuals, totally blew me away, my 1080ti isn't doing too bad neither, what I don't get on steam vr though is there any point in changing the main resolution setting as won't the per application setting overide it anyway, I'm getting different results depending on the game, I can run half life alyx at 100% but then hellsplit I have to run at 50% so I'm just using the per application setting now for every game
Gonna try that open xr thing. One question: how do I import windows into our environment? Example: I want to bring in my simbrief ofp and charts and have the browser pinned to the cockpit. Is that possible with the g2?
If I have the G2 plugged in and I click Steam on the desktop, it shows the VR version not the normal version. Can I load the standard version with the headset plugged in the USB-C?
Hi, I recently purchased the hp reverb g2 headset. I have a problem with youtube vr. The screen is split in half horizontally. Like when you have a 3d television and you don't have glasses. I can't find a solution. A little help. Thanks a lot.
IN DCS VR (HP G2), why am i only getting only half of the sounds in the F/A 18 , it's like the communications works but no sound coming from the engines and stuff
I have the Reverb and DCS. Just set it up. When I turn them on I have DCS playing in the background and the audio in the VR headset but I don’t have the DCS video in the headset, I have the Microsoft room you show at 2.00 in the video how do I get it to show DCS? I hear the audio but don’t see the video.
About the boundary and seated vs standing position. I find it much much better for immersion and comfort, to plug the headset into USB port, stand and go to my central point where I stand and look forward in VR, then put on the headset and look around so WMR can record the environment and remember the main central point and direction. Then select seated play while standing and in SteamVR you can latyer click "re-center" button in VR menu (do it in your central spot where you want to play at the moment). This is VR without limits and no box is painted. But, this approach needs attention and a carpet under your feet, so you know where you are, not to hit anything in the room. The size of carpet should refelect how much space you have, so your hands would not hit anything outside the carpet.
Excellent video my friend, and yes I do plan on getting one but the wifes she shed MUST come first!! (Happy wife, happy life!) Having a PSVR and Oculus Rift gives me no wriggle room to barter. ;-) Stay safe.
Love ur streams mate. I was just scrolling through comments searching for this as i ordered g2 without controllers as well, should arrive in 2 weeks. Any tips u can give on how to? o7
Hi Steve. Very informative video I want one now. Spoke to Andy Who made the Headcorn scenery you brilliantly displayed in your last video. As he’s help me sort out a couple of settings that needed to be changed to sort out a problem. He is now kindly going to direct me to the right PC for a High end upgrade. All you guys are so helpful and I personally really appreciate what you are doing. Cheers Martin
Thats amazing! I love it when the community helps each other out! Apologies if I haven't replied yet on that particular video, but I should get round to it soon. Take care.
when i first went into the "Resolution per Eye" is says 200% by default. What should i set that to? also, me and my family have tried this unit and we all have the same problem. if we look at something specific , it's focused but everything to the sides of focus of our eyes is blurry. So peripheral vision is terrible where right where we are focusing is janky. Any help is appreciated.
@10:05 I wonder if that "Custom Resolution Multiplier" is having a problem because of a change in headsets? You might need to uninstall Steam VR, install the headset and then reinstall Steam VR. That might make it re-read some of the metadata within the new headset.
Having big time flickering issues with the Reverb G2 when enabling VR in MSFS 2020. After loading up the flight, enabling VR, I get switched back to the WMR Home Screen and the monitor showing in VR, is flickering. Re-installed WMR, updated Windows and the drivers for my GTX 1080 TI with no success and no issues running XPlane 11. Any suggestions?
I just got mine yesterday and got everything set up except for some reason viveport launches every single time I launch my Reverb G2 period is this normal? I've never had an HTC vive...
Fantastic video, very helpful! I pre-ordered my unit in July, hopefully it will arrive here in Norway before Christmas. p.s. Could I also ask you to make an optimization video for the Nvidia (Control Panel) settings to get the absolute best visuals to performance ratio? I find that many people might benefit from that!
Thanks and glad you liked the video. I love Norway, I'm hoping to get there next summer. Regarding my Nvidia settings, I just leave them default to be honest. So it would probably be a very short video 😅
@@VRFlightSimGuy It is quite the beautiful country! Hopefully MSFS2020 comes out with a Norway update some time in the future to adress some nature bugs. Looking forward to using the G2 while flying the fjords of Norway! Aha, if you haven’t tweaked much I’m guessing it is set to prefer quality over performance?
@@VRFlightSimGuy I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time here! If you want some travel tips, then Lofoten, Geirangerfjord and Røros would be my go to recommendations. Those three places represent Norway at its finest. I myself live in a small city called Trondheim in the middle of the country, which is also quite beautiful in its own way. Packing a rich history going back to the viking age - if you’re looking for a city to visit! 😊
Do you need the controllers to watch VR movies? I only want it for that and the headset along is cheaper. Can still run Virtual Desktop without controllers I presume and just click/drag movies downloaded and start watching? Yes?
Hi. Any advice on how I get into Steam VR settings. As soon as I start steam VR I end up in the Steam cliff house with no way of entering the setup section
Thanks , Very good Info as I'm a new VR (G2) user and still tweaking my setup. I downloaded the OpenXR but mine (104.2012.7003.0) has another option in the developer settings; "Motion Projection" should this be: disabled, automatic or "always on"
Hey Steve, attempting to use your video to assist with setup of the G2 but Win10 isn’t progressing past the “Plug in the G2” screen. I’ve raised a thread on the VR Aviators page. Can you take a look and see if you can add any input please? Regards, Paul
Great video but have you any any idea why I get a message when trying to access the openxr developer settings stating "Something went wrong Error communicating with the mixed reality openxr service"? I have installed all the latest updates for windows 10 64bit and Nvidia RTX 2080 super The demo runs OK I cant get any info on this.
how can i get star wars squadrons to run smooth i have 8700k 32 ram and 1080ti at the moment till a 3080 is avail to pick up? when i run it on my quest 2 it runs smooth with vd or link cable but when i run it on the g2 and turn the ship it looks like it has some reprojection.
Can you help. I got my reverb g2 and on il2 and it's totally blurry. Really bad if I'm honest to the point I'm thinking of sending it back. There are jagged edges and dials are totally unreadable. I've gone through the settings but nothing seems to work. It's like I have no clear sweet spot whatsoever
Mate! Me again ;) Got my G2 yesterday, and to quote yourself, LOVING IT. I have to ask, did you encounter any issues during setup or use? Myself and other AMD motherboard users have had to get and use PCIe cards with USB-C ports as the AMD USB drivers just won't detect the headset...
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks mate, that makes sense! If only I'd known right ;) Just built this rig a month or so before the G2 arrived.. I'm sure these early adopter issues will clear up in time. No regrets! ;) Do you have any issues operating both Oculus and WMR headsets on the same machine? Just curious.. Happy to take this conversation out of the Comments section if you prefer as well! New headset, so many questions ;) Cheers mate!
@@nickatgmail Exactly that, any bugs and issues will be sorted eventually. No problems running both headsets, make sure you disable Oculus home from running automatically, you can do this by ensuring it needs admin rights only. Cheers!
@@VRFlightSimGuy Quick follow up; read a ton of Reddits, and following their advice, tried every single USB port, and found ONE that worked! So, full audio, and no more glitches :) OK, time to get airborne ;)
I wish this worked for me, my g2 has the one issue where the hz go above 90 on any loading screen which causes a overstack flow and close my game. I have the required parts for every game I’ve played and it still won’t work. Also, usb c or any SS usb ports don’t work on my pc but the front usb port (not c or ss) makes it work slightly so I have no clue how to fix that
@@flex5002 ah man, I've given up on expecting it before next year. sheeeeeeet. but you know, 1st world problems. Dissappointing they can't seem to get stock out even though they've known for ages how many ppl want them lol. it's just going to encourage scalping as well. shame.
I just had a flight journey and it is absolutely breathtaking. Everything is so rich and full of details in the Cockpit. It fells so real. But I have a problem. Everytime I want to change the graphic settings, I crash to the display. Anyone else has that problem? Doesnt matter if I am in the Desktop- or VR-Mode. Everytime I wanna change the settings, Crash. Thank you!
Help! The vision on the HP Reverb G2 looks way off... The right eye seems to be really off center and I can't adjust it. The lens itself looks fine, it's just the display that seems to be displaying the WMR to the right of where it should be so I can't really see correctly.
Hi Steve. When you unfold the dropdown menu on per application setting on steam vr, I see all your games get recognized. Such as dcs. For me dcs is not showing in said drop down menu? What can be the problem. Do you have steam version of DCS?
These boundary instructions instructions need to take account of where the PC is in comparison to your play space. Not everyone is going to have their PC right in front of their play area. My PC is in a corner, quite away from my play area so it makes no sense to start pointing at the monitor. Better off starting off pointing at my TV instead. Biggest annoyance though is to have to run over to my PC to click centre and trace when *my* centre is metres away pointing in another direction. Is there any way to click Centre and Trace using the controllers so I don't have to walk across the room to click them, losing my ideal spot in the process?
I just got the G2. But how do I get VR in DCS? I have selected "Enable VR" in DCS, but it never turns on. I just get to walk around in the WMR environment. I can start the game, but not VR, just windowed mode
Hi JC. No just use WMR, no need for Steam VR unless that's your preferred run time. Thanks for watching, this video is a bit old now and I have more up to date versions
I am still waiting for my G2, but trying to set things up ready. I cant find OPENXR. Is this because i dont yet have a WMR headset plugged in? Or should it be there in any case?
Just got mine and it's not being recognized at all. Tried all usb ports and lightning port. Wmr just telling me to plug in the headset and it doesnt show in device manager. Such a bummer there are so many issues with the g2.
Shove the headset cable connector in VERY firmly. I had the same problem and that headset - cable incomplete insertion was my problem. More force on the plugging in fixed my connection. Also, altho improved so it doesn't break the first time you use it, the headset cable clasp on the back of the headset that you route the cable thru pops off far too easily. Try securing it with one of the twist ties that are part of the headset cable packaging. Electrical tape may also work.
Received mine yesterday. It is like having a monitor in front of your face. Everything up close is like a 2k monitor and everything at a distance is like a 1080p. I have a 1080 and Steam set the SS at 52% and it is still 10x better than any headset I have tried. I moved it up to 75%, but I am going to try the automatic setting.
