Great video and skills. I own a vinyl business. The only issue with Vinyl is heat. You cant dishwasher safe vinyl if you heat dry. Specially if you use Crickets brand vinyl which is only 631. You will need a 671 grade vinyl to get the heat protection needed but even then, vinyl subjected to steam heat doesn't last long. If you hand wash and dry, then this method is amazing. Make sure if your selling these mugs that you make it clear hand wash only. I've done in the area of 8000 mugs and have had a lot of trial and error.

That was super easy and effective! I never thought about doing this. It would've been really helpful when I was making Christmas ornaments. I find using a pair of tweezers is very helpful with the smaller parts like the eyes. My fingers just arent dainty enough to get those tiny pieces.

@@rodriguez94 Did it ever occur to you that maybe someone had a valid reason for disliking it? Thumbing it down does not make one an idiot. I've been doing this kind of work since the early 90's. While the reverse weeding is a great idea, some of her other practices may be considered "suspect", by other viewers. Or maybe her voice was a little too low. Or maybe some viewers thought the process was incomplete, despite "mission accomplished". Point is... you just labeled a bunch of people you don't even know. Even if the competition hit that thumb down, it still doesn't make them idiots. It's shows jealousy, but not idiocy. So, don't ever think people are idiots, just because you think everyone should like what they're watching, or because maybe you got the hots for Selena.

Wow. thank you so much for this video. I just received my cricut this March. and I'm still learning. I didn't know contact paper from the dollar tree worked. I have some I bought from cricut and it's way to tacky & the vinyl doesn't come off of it. so thank you for this.

Thanks for explaining the reverse weeding. It's exactly what I was looking for because it seems that I'm drawn to delicate, intricate designs which can be painful when those little "babies" start slipping and sliding around on the foundation. Your method looks like just the thing. I'm anxious to get back to my current project where I'm applying a hummingbird design. I feel much more confident.

omg I wish I saw this yesterday. Would have saved me hours of wasted time and material. I am making little silkscreens using repositionable vinyl so I'd have to temporally apply it to some smooth surface or peel it away from the transfer tape and reapply to the backing. the heat and bond gives the vinyl a bit of stiffness . Design your life you tube channel shows how to make little silk screen with screen mesh , heat and bond and 631 vinyl.

I am totally amazed watching your video. I just used oracle 651 with joanns transfer tape to make a motorocycle decal for hubbies cup. I was sooooooo frustrated I tried it four times and could not get the vinal to release from the transfer tape onto the cup no matter how much burnishing I did. thanks to your video I am headed for a dollar tree and hopefully the next project will be worth doing. thank you!

Thank you! I hope this helps you out. I created this video awhile ago, but I don't use dollar tree shelf liner anymore. I use actual transfer tape found on Amazon or my local vinyl shop. :)

Thank you. It looks like the DT contact paper you use for tranferring is softer than my transfer tape. It probably applies better without having to cut fringe around the design.

Good tips, thanks for sharing! You might consider giving a little more info to start as I didn't know what you were talking about in the beginning in regard to "little nose" and such. Had I not wanted to see the application to a curved surface, I would have moved onto other videos because until you removed the backing and started weeding I could not see the design so you were essentially talking jibberish, LOL. Once I realized what you showing us, it made sense and I had to rewind and start over so I could follow along. Then it made sense and I can't wait to try this technique as the little pieces always get me. Thanks!

Sharp tip tweezers work wonders if you are doing quite a few of them... makes it easier to grab the small pieces and no chance of dropping them onto vinyl

Hi! I see a few questions on "permanence" and "washing the mug" aren't getting answers fast enough. The advice I have, for Folks who attempted a similar project without iron-on transfer vinyls but with "boutique store window" & vehicle car decal vinyls (like the good stuff from Oracle), is to try the "clear" sealers from Modpodge and smear/cover your whole decal. This method should withstand a hand wash or two...or three. As an FX Costumer, I would try this very method if I was building, oh say a Green Lantern GI Joe size action figure suit for a collector. I would attempt to Modpodge Seal the vinyl cut "Lantern Symbol" onto the action figure chest to help prevent Folks from scraping it off.

This is great! I hadn't thought of using the transfer tape before weeding an intricate design. This technique would have been great with a project I did for my dad's lawn mower. The letters were 1/8" high.. and a pain in the @ss to weed. :) However the next time I have to do an intricate project, I'm going to try this method!
