3:33 minutes... reverse prayers.... symmetrical melody. This is a satanic song my dude sorry to burst your bubble, its what they do to mock God. The reverse will by the way is code word for perfect hatred... against you the listener of course
Right. And it makes sense. A steady percussion, steady bass, steady everything. It's not too far from being a "glorified drone", basically You'd kind of expect it to not change too much in reverse, but even with all that, I still found myself a little surprised by just how profoundly similar it is. And the more I listen, I think I might actually like it even more played backwards than forwards! :-)
a decade late plus, this is a normal prayer, its for comfort, not fear. It is kinda horror in this context as shes so innocent. This is normally a children prayer for comfort. Its old fashioned but not to be scary. It is in this context though. I want to add, this is close to the original prayer in english. This was for children. Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep; Keep me safe through the night and wake me with the morning light If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen. Coming from Laura though, its absolutely more dire and scary. In SH2 shes 100% purely innocent. For a town that punishes you on a case by case basis, she never saw any horror. Except eddies Pizza, who the fuck cooked that shit? Pyramid Head Pizza?
It's kinda cool how it sounds decently similar to the original.. I know that's the intent but still. I imagine it'd be difficult to make something sound so good yet still sound the same reversed, ya know?
It's just repeating a part of the prayer. "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." I always thought it was rather morbid for a kid's prayer. Apparently someone agreed with me.
Poverty, sicknesses and illnesses of times past by, and famine were all possible outcomes and factors of dying young even under the care of an orphanage. Given that this prayer is as old as the Cult of the town, it's not weird at all or odd. Silent Hill, after all, has had a long history, and I had understood they even suffered plagues.
The will is to be reborn, which can only be heard in the rebirth ending, in a song called :"The reverse will" where the will can only be heard in reverse.
Well it's Laura who sings this, she sings: "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take."
I was a bit shocked that the song STILL showed similarities even with it “reversed” it just makes “the reversed will” that much more interesting and eerie at the same time!! makes me love the track a lot more near the end tho 3:25 is what caught my ears, to put the beginning of the song at end like that? Akira is truly a genius at his craft 🤌✨🔥!!
@ComradePorkie It's supposed to. The beauty of the cult in Silent Hill 3 (and the first game) is that they are a fantastic perversion of Christianity. The endgame of 3 makes this explicit, even including the Stations Of The Cross for the deity of the cult's religion in the church towards the end of the game. In Christianity, the prospect of God taking hold of your soul in death is meant to be comforting, given the benevolence of God as a figure. In Silent Hill? Well...
Actually, according to things I have read, she doesn't die, because she is seen in most of the endings with James. And because she is still a child and knows no evil, she doesn't see all the monsters that James, Maria, Angela, and Eddie see. In fact, she might have been the only one to see the REAL silent hill that Mary had mentioned to her in the letter and viewed it as a beautiful place in her eyes...I think.. O_o
@@imayknowdasauce8128 It was a weird line, but Laura is actually 8 years old, as she told James this when he asked her in the hotel about her age. I believe Laura was confused as to why James would be concerned about "being in a place like this", as the town she was seeing was vastly different from James, Angela, and Eddies version of Silent Hill.
@@imayknowdasauce8128 She is a child, she asks if he is blind because she doesn't see any of the crap he is seeing. What he, Angela and Eddie see are representatives of their own inner demons. Regular kids like Laura don't have inner demons yet (at least not until the very end when she starts to suspect stuff and aska James if they can get out of there already). She also probably doesn't see any fog, since that not so subtly also sybolizes James' blurriness of mind as he backtrack through silent hill trying to remember what happened. She is also not a product of James' mind since it is officially confirmed that Angela, Eddie and Laura are real, only Maria is a product of his mind.
@Loradreamx That is actually debatable. It seems that SH manifests itself according to the person's psyche. To Eddie, it's an influx of rude people to kill. To Angela, it's about everything on fire and trying to find her mother. To James, it's a twisted nightmare where PH stalks him. But Laura is innocent. Remember the part where James is puzzled to see Laura unharmed to which she replies: "why wouldn't I be?". So there is certainly nothing threatening her.
Lo que dice Laura en este tema es lo siguiente: "Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray my Lord, my soul to keep. If I die before I wake, I pray my Lord my soul to take". Es un rezo hacia Dios o algún ser supremo.
Which god? 😂 A god of the Order, very likely. But which one of them? Or do you seriously think she's praying to the god of the christian beliefs? Because I think it's intentionally very ambiguous.
Let's suppose Laura is the spiritual aspect of Mary. If the original song "the reverse will" is the literally reverse will of Mary, Laura makes sense as a reasonable character of Silent Hill 2 since she seems came out of nowhere. Firstly, this song(call it "the will") would be the Mary's comfortable death with her will that she wants James to go on his life contrary to the plot of the 'reverse' ending. (the song's prayer "Now I lay me down to sleep~ my soul to take" means Mary's accept of death herself) Secondly, as Maria is the admiring aspect of James(though she exists herself in silent hill) where it could be seen in 'Born from a wish', the innocent aspect of Mary embodies Laura as a child.
Because Mary is the opposite character to James in the plot, there should be the same embodied person as Maria. So, if Laura serves as an aspect of Mary, the implication of the song's prayer and the significance of the character 'Laura' could be explained logically.
Most likely answer: it sounds creepy My guess/theory: the Rebirth ending involves James using the town's occult powers to try bringing Mary back to life; so it could symbolize a reversal of the natural order of things by bringing someone back from the dead, or it could symbolize a reversal of Christian belief because he's using occult/evil. It could also be a reference to the fact that Mary wanted to die, so bringing her back to life is a reversal of her will/wishes.
@@Kintsugi23 perhaps, nice interpretation. I'm pretty sure the whole ritual thing is based on SH's cult tho, you have stuff about it in the prison as well. Though, when going to the chapel in SH3, it definitely seems to resemble Christianity
If you read interviews with Akira, the songs weren't written with any specific gameplay context in mind. For instance, he wrote "Theme of Laura" immediately after his first look at her character. He had to write these songs-not to mention implement all the sound effects in the game-while the game was still being developed, so he didn't really have any context to work from.
@@MarkLambertMusic it's funny how people start describing the various points of James's life and delusions during Theme of Laura, if it was really written with no context in mind. The SH2 community in general is funny
@gangstajacy Still not creepy to me lol. When you die, the Lord DOES take hold of your spirit. Your soul leaves your body and will either go to Hell or Heaven. Depending on if you're saved. I want to die in my sleep when it's my time. No pain, and I can wake up in Heaven.
In the original version of this song I thought that part where Laura is talking was a woman saying she was going shopping but then she will be right back with the woman putting emphasis on the word will like as if she were convincing a child that she'd be right back as soon as she was done running her errand.
1:54 Laura can be heard saying "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take" O_O
I don't know if its Laura or Alessa (I think its Laura) prays in the Three Voices version of Rain of Brass Petals right after "I am the First" (Pyramid Head?) and before "I am the Second" (James?)
its laura saying i pray the lord my soul to take if i shall die before i wake Now you lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep If I shall die before My soul to take.
Just came here to hear Laura recite the lords prayer backwards Another song is used to play backward back in the day on my CD player was “Come” used in the show Inuyasha
it's obviously this > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5GsaqDrYtS8.html everyone should know it did you actually played Silent Hill 2 at all?
Actually i can hear it in it's entirety. Just a little jumbled.: Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake I pray the lord my soul to take
"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep, If I should die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take" This is actually metallica's bridge of "Enter Sandman" for those who are curious (only the "should" has been added).
Right. Metallica was quoting the old prayer. Only I don't actually hear "Now I lay me down to sleep" here. I can hear all the other lines, but not that one. Do you have a time stamp? This is the most absolutely wonderful kind of creepy, with the repeating vocal drones and the backwards music. I LOVE IT! I've actually listened to it several, several times just today it's so captivating.
