That was actually a very good idea if you WANT to trash the motor. Once the motor's been used for long term service running in one direction, the brushes are bedded in with a wear pattern in that direction only, and when you reverse it, they aren't going to make as good contact... in some cases they may even snag if they can shift in the holders enough. Bang!

Wow! Since the motor is spinning a certain way when you flip the polarity the motors generating Flux that adds to voltage your applying! That ammeter is pegged out!!!

Run the motors tight through with out the volts and current jumping in between

This is a universal motor. If you want a true AC motor then you need to go with induction. They have no brushes and can only work on AC where as the motor in this video can work on AC or DC.
