I’ll take a huge $12 slice of Gideon’s any day. These are tiny in comparison and look meh. I’m a home baker and I have a feeling I could recreate these for a small fraction of the price with high quality ingredients. I was so excited for a new cake shop and this is a letdown. I won’t be wasting my money here. Love you, Gideon’s! ❤
I'm here for Tom mentioning at least one very old sitcom or commercial. I appreciate the review and will definitely choose somewhere else for a special occasion dessert.
While I'm happy to see the shop is opening, I will not be a future customer upon my next visit. The food looks interesting and tasty but prices are beyond my reasonable spending. I have access to some wonderful bakeries in the SF Bay Area and I've never paid that much for a dessert. Thanks for the review!
We live in the next town over from Carmel, IN where one of the cake shops is. No, I've never been, nor do I want to. Not in the mood for a second mortgage😂😂😂
Used to live in Broad Ripple... Very nice atmosphere, service was fine... But it's not cheap. I can see where the restaurant fits into the Disney ambiance, though. And the prices should be no surprise for anyone visiting Disney these days. Seems like it's only getting worse.
I have been to one but the prices were nearly half this. We never would have gone if they were this high. It was expensive enough as it is. You can also order online for around half the price of Disney🤷
But you're gotta remember that Tom is the same guy who said if you can't afford a few more bucks for a dinner at Cinderellas Castle or a couple hundred more bucks for an annual pass then maybe you shouldn't be going to Disney....
I’m with you-rather have a plated, fresh dessert at the end of a nice meal experience than an extra expensive dessert stuck to paper, boxed, bagged, and transported in the heat to eat later.
The desserts do look decent, but I’m perfectly happy with getting some Gideons cookies. That said, haven’t been to Disney Springs since Summer House on the Lake opened, so I will have to try their bakery offerings when I go back.
okay so ive been to cake bake in carmel before and its not BAD!! like its about the experience. in indiana, its like a mini disney!! its all about the theming and experience (and their decor is pretty incredible). the problem is putting it in disney where theres already theming and cool experiences. im not sure its worth the intensity of the comment section, i would totally recommend stopping by, but its also not somewhere i would go out of my way to go in disney world.
Good lord...I LOVE cake and desserts but NO THANK YOU EVER! I have had pastries that are more beautiful and taste gorgeous (and in bougie areas) that cost MUCH less. When I go back, I'll be happy sticking to Gideon's cake slices, 7/7 or not...
Tom has a new sign-off: "I'm the youngest mentally". I like it, Tom. Some funny moments in this episode, including many with Tom expressing self-loathing. Grumpy Tom is real, anyway. Ok, the prices are outlandish at this place, but this review has convinced me to go there next visit and split a piece of the Millionaire's Cake with company.
Will say that each slice was massive. If shared the price per person seems more reasonable. Just silly you can't get half that slice for 12 bucks. And still doesn't justify the friggin egg sandwhich
Even before your reviews, I’m still going to be a hard pass. Refuse to pay that much $$ for cake slices. Also, never been to Gideon’s and never will. Refuse to wait that long for a slice….Thanks anyway! Love your reviews Tom!
I guarantee you all their cakes taste better than what you get at the Boathouse. I’ve had at least 4 different kinds at Cake Bake shop and they are all excellent
Wait, what??? Did you just say Disney forced them to lower the prices after a public outcry???? Please tell me you were joking when you gave Disney props for strong-arming these jerks into lowering their prices with Disney themselves having been guilty of this very same thing for the past 10+ years. And no worries, Tom. This is a 3rd party outfit so you can be at least somewhat honest about your review without worrying about losing your Elite media list status with the mouse house.
@@WilsonFlyer Apparently you didn't see the video where Tom talked about how Disney contacted him in the hopes of restoring his faith in the product. Oddly enough, after they came groveling back to WDWNT all seemed right in the world with Tom and the mouse house so yes, I'd say Disney was strong-armed into kissing some serious a$$ in order to get back in Tom's good graces.
26:20 oddly enough I know the video you're referring to. It was Jeb Brooks from Greener Grass and they were at LAX taking a Spirit flight. Fantastic creators who do a solid job. Much like yourself, thanks for the review as always. Definitely going to save the money for use elsewhere.
I heard that “List of Jericho” reference Tom. That’s 3 wrestling comments in one video about $20+ cake. And you actually became a little cooler in my book Tom. As someone also watching a $20+ Disney cake video. Also born in New York and a wrestling fan from the age of 6 and who made the annual east coast expedition to Florida and Disney of course.
Brave move to take a bakery from flyover Indiana (sorry!) and insert it into Disney World. Wonder if the Disney biz dev team that courted Gideons got overly ballsy with this project? This place would get eaten alive by any decent Italian Bakery and die a miserable death in a strip mall here on Long Island. Thanks for the review!
🤦♀️Let them eat cake! I just can’t…. EVER. I’d rather drive in the opposite direction to Ormand Beach and go to the White Rabbit Bistro! $8.99 for massive gluten free MOIST and amazing cake flavors. Calories, Insulin levels and my bank account are too precious for Disney’s feeble attempts.
I honestly think that this very highbrow offering will fit in fine here--surrounded by SIX Deluxe resorts, including the Swan/Dolphin cluster. What's the average cost for those rooms? $550? $600? If you pay that much for a hotel room per night for a week, $25 for a cake is not that bad. The descriptions sound like Remy on the cruise ships, don't they?
I don't understand all the hate. People will spend $16 on a caramel apple that probably cost them less than $2 to make, but complaining about a $30 piece of cake that takes a lot longer to create with more expensive ingredients. Not to mention it looks like they are easily shareable between two people. If you go to cheesecake factory, it costs $10 or more for a slice of cheesecake which looks similar to the first pie in this video so in my opinion, they seem like normal Disney prices. Do I need to remind people how much they pay for popcorn?
The Glass knife in Winter Park is way better and a fraction of the cost. Plus the experience eating there is amazing. Whenever we are in town we go there and The Briar Patch. Both are fantastic!
$26 for a piece of cake that is clearly a portion size for two people. $13 per person for a desert doesn't seem obnoxious these days when you eat out. Just have to look at it from the right perspective (and hope you got a really fresh slice of cake).
We will be there in February for my birthday. I'll have between now and then to decide if I really want to take out a home equity loan to eat there! lol
The peanut butter pie has to be refrigerated and is served cold at the shop. . It’s perfection. My favorite to get from Cake Bake…but with Indianapolis prices.
Sometimes your job is what dreams were made of. Please eat all this cake ….rough. Are you hiring. Prices are ridiculous still with the drop. It’s funny that the expensive ones are affordable to the people that like them , Oprah and Elton.
I can't wait till I'm there at Christmas to eat all the cakes. I worked in a bakery 20 years ago and I have not eaten a piece of commercially produced cake since I left. But those looked sooo good. I don't think the price is all that bad for the size of the cake. You not having a piece of it everyday.
The cakes do look good. But I would have liked to see a review of a non chocolate cake. But I also didn’t pay $93 for cake so I can’t be picky with this review. 😂
With bakery items, I know there is a lot of time and effort put into them, but I also know what flour and eggs cost. I think bakery goods are always overpriced, outside of maybe what you can find at a grocery store.
Tom trying hard to please the crowd hating the cost but loving the peanut butter pie/cheesecake is funny. The plastic ware is an utter disappointment. I was rooting for her, but…
So The Cake Bake Shop has ridiculously high prices and Disney yells at them and they lower their prices…. In the mean time guests are complaining about Disney’s ridiculously high prices and Disney just goes and raises their prices higher?! Go figure! 🙄
I know it's fun to bash right now, but if it's really good and we're splitting it then 10 or 12 bucks a piece for a good dessert that we only get once isn't the worst
I’ve been to both locations in Indiana and just wanna say you must have had these sitting inside your car for an extended period of time in the heat. The icing was melted down. They look much better when you pick them up at the restaurant. All their cakes are delicious, but I’m not eating in their restaurant and paying $7 or $8 for a Coke. Not happening. The cake is good but they aren’t able to enhance the flavor of Coke to make it taste any different than it normally tastes.
we know prices have to cover WDW rent/lease… but are these especially high because of UK taxes on profit made here and then possibly celebrity royalties to Sir Elton and Dame Oprah?
Another reason I love Tom...throws in a Goldust reference and a sly follow up line. Good to know he didn't stutter. The deadpan "You mean Reese's" had me literally LOL
Looks like over priced Cheesecake Factory in fancy packaging. To be fair to this place, they are not the only ones who sell high priced cakes. You can go online and see a sorts of crazy prices. I think $15 for a truly shareable size slice of cake/pie is my cutoff.
1. Quit blocking people who disagree with you. It’s weak. 2. It’s lazy not to redo the video with accurate prices. The voiceover at the start is a weak and lazy solution.
