I actually love our 2019 RDX A-spec, it's fun, not too pricey, good tech, great looks, good amount of space too. It's actually the most perfect sport luxury SUV for it's segment IMHO.
Even though I am not into the Honda CRV, I find myself really liking the Acura RDX especially in the A Spec version. The one that you are driving in this video is absolutely gorgeous especially in that color. This and the GV70 are two Crossovers that I figured would be high on you and Beth’s list of possibilities.
@@theMLBfan the CRV is Hondas compact crossover and the RDX is Acura’s compact crossover. Acura is Honda’s luxury division. More times than not, the bulk brand and luxury brand share many components etc… The Honda has a shift lever, but was changed to a dial in the Acura.
I love his videos. He always test comfort ride in sports cars. For daily use that’s what a person also wants for his money. Look forward to more videos and past videos of Acura
2022 Acura RDX Pros: large passenger and cargo area, powerful engine, comes loaded with pano sunroof, heated seats, steering, wireless apple/android, power lift gate, remote start Cons: a bit stiff ride (could be positive depending what you like) fuel economy not the best The base 2022 Acura RDX is the best value by far in this segment.
Strange how much louder the road noise seems compared to previous reviews (yours included, Matt) in this newer quieter model. I wonder why that would be? Different mic’s maybe? 🤔
Great review of the RDX. Too bad you didn't like the ride with the 20" wheels. I was hoping the damper system would make a difference. The RDX A-Spec caught my eye more then the Advanced trim, because the interior trim on the A-Spec looks so much more youthful and modern compared to the wood trim on the Advanced RDX
As an avid Honda enthusiast I watch so much of your content from here in Australia and can’t but help but feel like we really got the short of the stick when it comes to what’s sold here down under. I feel like Hondas recent failed attempt at marketing themselves as a more premium brand would have probably been a success had they offered us some rebadged and right hand drive converted Acuras. I hope that at the very least we see an international release of the new Type-S range and the “Integra” when it releases.
17MPG average!? My 4800lb flex-fuel 2018 F150 Supercrew XLT 4x4 with the 400hp 5.0 averages 16.7 MPG, and that's with E85! That's the problem with those little turbo 4-bangers, they rely on higher rpms which hurts mpg. My F150 w/3.55 gears calmly cruises under 2k rpm @ 75mph. I should also mention I only paid $38k for the truck, brand new from Koons Ford back in 2018 (Sticker was $51k). Fast forward only 4 years and this little 4-banger stickers for $53k and then the dealers want to mark that up! Crazy times! I should also mention that my truck is way, way faster than this RDX, particularly in sport mode with E85. Talking 0-60 in low 5's and 13.5 1/4 mile. You would not believe how fast these big trucks are. I often hear people talk about how fast they think there little SUV is, and it always makes me chuckle. With that said, this RDX would be an AWESOME daily driver, with great looks, great tech, and great handling. But the efficiency sucks and it's way overpriced.
As a 2021 lessee, I can attest the MPGs are rated horrendously bad. I've never seen 26 on the highway, even when really babying the throttle... the best I've seen is 24, and that was during a purposeful test cruising at 70. City is no where near rated either, usually 17-18 at best, and that's just from normal stop-and-go driving. It's rather surprising that my previous 2018 MDX lease did better on fuel than the RDX with a smaller engine and lighter curb weight.
@@rezneba101 in a country where the average interstate speed is 65-70 MPH. Silly to rate them on that speed. Regardless, the point here is, apples-to-apples, the smaller/lighter vehicle with the smaller engine, the one I’d expect to be the more fuel efficient actually did worse than the larger/heavier vehicle with the larger engine when tested at the same speed. If the rating is done at 55 MPH, how did I, at 70 MPH, experience BETTER-than-rated MPGs on my MDX… by 2 MPG? Meanwhile, I consistently get below-rated fuel economy in the RDX. Don’t get me wrong, I love the car… I’m just saying, I think they rated it too high.
that MPG is horrendous. We had a 2016 Focus ST and it could get great MPG at around 50MPH with the cruse on but it could also burn more gas than my Evo X if I tracked it. Small turbos are just for fooling the EPA tests
I have an Acura ILX & am looking to move up to a midsize SUV, but the RDX has horrible MPG & the infotainment system with the track pad is awful. If Acura would offer a hybrid version, I would seriously consider the RDX. I'm strongly leaning toward the Lexus NX 350h, a hybrid with a touch screen infotainment system.
I really like my 22 RDX SH-AWD Technology, with exception of the fuel economy! It’s rated at 27 mpg on the highway but it doesn’t come close. Mine struggles to hit 23 mpg on long easy 70 mph drives, where my 2019 BMW X4 with a comparable 2 liter Turbo easily hit 32-33 mpg. Come on Honda… really!
I have the same issue - I'm getting 18 in mixed driving. I had a 3 row RX350 with the 3.5 V6 and got 23 in mixed driving, and it didn't need premium. I kind of wish I had saw the MPG reviews before I bought it. A GV70 with the 3.5 Turbo gets better gas mileage. It's also about 10K more though too... so not sure I'm ready to go quite that high for a car.
@@dejavusnip don’t know where you get your facts, but a similarly equipped X4 is actually a little heavier than the RDX, and regardless of the claimed mpg numbers, my RDX dosent get anywhere near the claimed mpg, regardless of how hard I try. Im no physics master, but I’m smart enough to know the difference between 23 mpg and 31 mpg, and my X4 easily got 31 mpg on the same highway where my RDX gets 23 mpg. You explain the physics!
I love the RDX! It’s a great suv for sure. While my TLX Type S was in service for accessories and oil change.. i had the opportunity to take a loaner rdx out and it was a lot of fun. I was very impressed. Good videos like always Matt 💯💯
I favor the Advance model because of the low profile tires on the A Spec versions provide little traction in snow. Also they are more susceptible to tire and rim damage due to potholes and road imperfections common in the Northeast. In my opinion all low profile tires are form over function. I still think the RDX is a great vehicle.
Nice work Matty ! IMO the MB GLC 43 is the one to beat in this segment for DD and price if you want a luxury/cost conscious version of a sporty SUV. The MB does everything well and won't cost you your first born. Would love to see you review one. Nevertheless, I really want to like the RDX as it is a very nice looking vehicle but I always felt like it was missing something whenever I drove it. Acura used to be worth the premium back in the day but recently I question the premium price for essentially a HONDA with hooker heels and lipstick.
Thanks! I disagree about it being a Honda though, this shares basically nothing with a CR-V and is totally unique. As for the GLC, I reviewed one a few years ago, but I don't think it's a good value at all considering a GLC 43 that merely matches the equipment this RDX has will cost you nearly 73k. Obviously the GLC 43 has a lot more horsepower, and maybe to some people that'll be worth the 20k extra, but not to me.
Owning the MB is a nightmare. To simply maintain a GLC43 AMG would cost me around $1500/year, not counting wear items like tires or brakes, just simple PM. The Acura? $400 or so. While the GLC43 is nice, I like the Acura better except of course for that DCT and turbo 6. The rest, I'd pick the Acura.
From my memory of driving the pre-refresh, the difference isn't dramatic, but I'd have to drive them back to back on the same roads to really say for sure.
@@billyrock8305 It will be fine. It's a proven combo. Look at the WRX Sti. Barely 300hp, horrible mpg, and it has insane retained value. That mpg/power won't matter, there.
I still might, but with the low views that this and the GV70 reviews both got, I'll likely stay away from luxury SUVs for the most part going forward. It's unfortunate because I'm curious how the 2.5T GV70 drives, but it seems like very few people on the channel want to watch them.
@@MattMaranMotoring That’s unfortunate, but I understand. I was always under the impression that the compact luxury SUV segment was booming, therefore the most amount of eyes would be on these kinds of videos. While I can’t say I know your audience better than you, I’m sure the people in the Genesis and Acura forums would be very excited to see a comparison. Not that that’s enough to justify all the hard work of putting together another video review. Either way, excellent review! I was looking forward to someone putting out a full review on the 2022 RDX!
The rear exterior design (taillights) lack effort. Otherwise, I think the design will remain fresh 10 years from today. On the other hand, the Genesis GV70 is one heck of a good looking value. Might consider that route if the dealer network was better established.

I have a first gen rdx. It’s an 07 in pearl white with 260k. I love this car and it’s K23 power plant with shawd. I have modified her with bc coilovers, T37s, Downpipe + Atlp exhaust. She has a mishimoto intercooler with turbo smart bov, the hondata really brings her to life, I think the new model is far too big.
My wife has an 07 with the shawd and it is super clean. Bought it a few years ago with 37k miles for $11k. Have had no problems besides cruise control going out but that was a $200 fix. Anyways, love these little suvs
At that price point, i expect HUD and heater/cooled seats. Good review. Also, not a fan of the placement of the infotainment screen as well as the layout of the dashboard. Each to their own.
