Happy Monday everyone! Thank you again to Keeps for sponsoring this video, please be sure to visit the link www.keeps.com/redline so you can save up to 50% off your first order. For the refreshed RDX, Acura made small but effective changes this year and the next thing we'd like to see from Acura is a hotter RDX Type S model. It makes sense and we think that lovely 3.0L turbo V6 would fit nicely under the hood. Like this comment if you agree!
Instead of the V6 3.0L Twin Scroll, I believe a better option is giving it the 2022 Civic Type R built up motor which would be a direct fit and lighter which in turn will provide better performance. Looking at the size of the engine bay Acura/Honda would have to make some structural changes which isn’t worth the payback.
The MDX and RDX front ends do really look similar. Had it confused this past weekend at the dealership. Kudos to Honda Acura listening to their customers and joining the A Spec with the Advance features. Type S model will hopefully be next 🤞👀
I think it looks much better because I love the new MDX styling. That said, there are difference but subtle. I find it most difficult to tell Audi models apart from a distance.
It's a beast in the snow. I live next to a pretty steep hill. It was 2 in the morning and thought I would have some fun and try to drive up the hill in 8 inches of snow and oem all seasons, totally expecting it to not make it. And to my surprise it went right up the hill with no drama, when I've seen dozens of cars fail. It's like a damn snowcat
I'm still really impressed overall with the RDX but do think it's disappointing that it's still missing LED rear turn signals and LCD instrument cluster.
@@ProfileRacing89 Amen brother I love the digital/analog combo and the Acura RDX's cluster is one of the best looking ones, specially in the A-Spec with the red accents umm!!!.
Have had our RDX A-Spec/Advance for two weeks. Absolutely love driving this car. Handles like a sports sedan. Excellent power train. Im actually liking the touch pad interface. No finger smudges to clean as I do on my 2021 RAM massive digital screen. Its my wife's car so I set it up for her and she is not much into playing with tech while driving. Love the analog/digital mix display land ambient lighting. Physical controls for HVAC....yea. The auto setting for seat heat and cool is a nice feature. Aligned pretty much with the Redline review, save for nitpicking the lack of touch screen and lack of full digital cluster.
I’ve had my 22 RDX in this exact trim and color combo for 3 months now and I love it. One of the reasons I went with it was because they finally offered the a spec advance package. It’s a comfortable fun ride. I had a 21 TLX A spec SHAWD and I enjoy driving this much more. Now if they come out with a type s variant I’ll be getting that one next. 😅

I test drove the segment and chose the 22 A-Spec Advance RDX...I loved the more aggressive looks of it compared to the GV70, Lexus NX, and German rivals...plus the sporty performance was superior to the others. I bought this car in December, and I can say this is the best car I have ever owned...I can't wait for that eventual redesign with the type-S package...That'll definitely be my next car.
The RDX is literally slower than every single one of its rivals. Superior to whom? My RDX's build quality after 2yrs of ownership has been terrible, especially for a supposed "premium" brand. I'll never buy another Acura again.
So happy to see this comment…I wanted a Genesis but just couldn’t make a deal happen. Not to mention other than the Genesis I had no idea what I wanted and I don’t live in an area where I have access to luxury dealerships…my husband drives BMW and I almost went that route but ended making 6 hour trip last week to buy my Acura A Spec Advance and I love it so far!

I wish I had the chance to drive the GV70 before I purchased my RDX, but it wasn't out yet. It was available a couple months after my purchase. I will say that GV70 interior looks stunning.
@@niuhuskieguy I’d have probably gone with the GV 70 myself… if I could have found one within 500 miles and the local Hyundai dealership said they can’t service the Genesis! Seems like a slick SUV!
I love the analog brushed silver dials, a throwback to the RSX, much more than a screen that merely mimics an analog dial. Not sure why the obsession for a Type S given all the positive comments on acceleration and handling. But I would understand Acura coming out with an electrified version though.
TIP: You don't need to hold the start button on the remote till it starts. You only need to hold it till the first amber LED blinks (about 3 secs). It will take it from there.
Just picked up my 22 Aspec Advanced in liquid carbon, and I absolutely love it. I don't know if I'm too old school, but I actually like most of the things that ppl complain about: - I really appreciate the analog gauge, definitely feels more sporty and the HUD makes up the info of an analog gauge may lack - Love how the steering wheel feels, thick, soft, flat bottom, very sporty looking...steering is just at the right balance between stiff and soft turning - my previous 19 CX-5 signature definitely had stiffer steering - Ppl may judge the center console is messy/disorganized, but I actually LOVE all the buttons, and it's very intuitively placed: screen, temperature, gears. I live in Canada and winter temp can go down to -30/-40 degrees, and touch screen temperature settings would be horrifying!!! My iphone would die when I go snowboarding, just imagine how that gigantic trackpad would do in a cold car! Also, just rmb, more techy/electronic stuff mean more prone to breakdown overtime. My sister has a 2005 TL, and every single button on that car still works after 17 years. That TL just ages extremely well, I still really love the interior of that car, doesn't feel outdated at all. - Driving on a round-about and on a ramp coming off a highway is AWESOME...I totally don't feel like the car is trying to throw me sideways, the SH-AWD is definitely so much more superior than the regular AWD (again I came off the 19 Mazda cx5 signature) - The track pad is not that hard to use...I guess we are just too used to Apple's magic trackpad and laptop trackpad, but if you get over the trackpad concept, and knowing it's a "TOUCH"pad, it's not bad at all. Definitely more inspired by Japanese culture that's centered around character and scripts writing, and you can't scroll through the screen for Japanese character writing.
Glad your enjoying the RDX. Notice better/worse gas mileage compared to the CX-5? I bet it’s an improvement in interior room. I’m debating with trading in my CX-5 for the CX-50 that’s coming or this RDX.
@@artura5702 The gas mileage is definitely a bit better on the CX5 (I was averaging 9.9-10.3 city/hwy combined). The RDX, I've only had it for a week, and I'm getting like 13.1 on mostly city driving - haven't had the time to really drive it out yet. On the gas door, the RDX does say "min 87, recommend 91" so that's good see.
@@stephy306782380 Same. I am in America, so mpg, and I averaged 27mpg lifetime in my CX5 turbo. The RDX looks like it will probably be 23-24mpg lifetime average given my daily commutes so far.
Yo? Redline, its like you are watching my RU-vid history. All these car reviews you are uploading are the exact cars am researching, '22 M3, '22 lexus nx and now this rdx🤔. Kudos
I own a 2011 RDX with SH-AWD and glad they added it back. Generation 2 of the RDX was not only boring but it was missing the better AWD system. I do wish they’d just go with a touch screen but the touch pad isn’t bad. I also wish they did offer a hybrid or electric version but guess we’ll see. When the time comes to replace my RDX, it’s on my short list. I love the blue paint and red interior.
Acura is simply better engineered than Genesis. Case in point, the MDX Type S is significantly down in power-to-weight compared to the GV80 twin-turbo, but the Acura is still somehow quicker in the 1/4-mile.
I don't like red gauges. Red is supposed to mean warning/trouble. Instead of red, everything should be green or blue. Those colors are also easier on the eyes and more relaxing. Acura is a well-kept secret. Many people don't consider it to be a "true luxury brand" and give it the respect that it deserves - which is a good thing for the rest of us, because it helps keeps prices down way below Mercedes, BMW, and even Lexus models
Just reserved the 2023 in Apex Blue! Living in Canada this was such a great review that heavily influenced my final decision. Can't wait to get into it in November.
Love the RDX, it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a CUV hands down, it just needs a hybrid and a Type S variant. This is how I would rank this segment: 1. BMW X3 2. Porsche Macan 3. Mercedes GLC 4. Genesis GV70 (the 3.5t model) 5. Acura RDX 6. Audi Q5 7. Alfa Romeo Stelvio 8.Volvo XC60 9. Lexus NX 10. Infiniti QX50
@@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews hi, the RDX is the most fun I’ve had in a CUV, however, the vehicles placed above it, have more luxurious interiors, better fuel economy, quicker, and have better tech. If the RDX had a type s model, a full digital gauge cluster, a more high res reverse camera, a bit more luxurious interior, maybe a hybrid or mild hybrid variant and full led taillights then I would rank it closer to the top if not at the number one spot. I will say it is the best value in this segment and I can’t wait for the next generation to see what they do with it.
Whenever I am thinking about a vehicle I go to Redline. Great job with this one! This segment is super competitive and there is a very small gap between the luxury brands and others. (I.e. top end Tucson). I think in 2022 any car that still has the “tablet” look on the dash would not get a serious look from me. It probably takes a lot to reconfigure the entire dash but it just looks so much better when what has become normal in every car is actually integrated into the car vs tagged on.
I have the same issue in winter driving of snow and road muck covering the ACC/CMBS radar behind the emblem and covering the LED headlights. Both need some type of heating element and/or washer to keep them clear. The Acura grill is a S.O.B. to clean when it gets that dirty with road salt and muck from winter driving. I will still take the new grill over the beak.
just picked one up recently. Traded in my Telluride which sold 12k more than what I paid for pre-pandemic. Acura dealership gave me $1k under sticker so it was a great buy. Drives so much better but I do miss the 3rd row seat. It does take regular. Didn't really see much difference in mileage. It's quite nimble and very quiet inside. One thing that is a nit-pick, when switching drive modes, the RDX model shown on the screen is a base model. Would have been nice if they showed an ASpec Advanced model especially if you bought one in that configuration. Hoping there's a infotainment update they can provide soon.

Your 0-60 times are SIGNIFICANTLY better than any other publication's testing of previous RDX's. Have you tested a pre-22 model, do you think Acura changed some things for '22? Also, I am curious if you did a 0-60 run without brake torquing, and if so, if you would mind sharing that data? Thanks so much! I enjoy your reviews immensely.
I should be picking up my performance red aspec advanced later this week. I cross shopped the X3 and GLS 300. Hands down you get so much more equipment with the Acura than the others for at least $10 grand less. Really looking forward to this new vehicle!!
Wait until you discover the RDX fuel economy is about 30% worse than the X3 would have been! I like my RDX, but the fuel economy reduction from my 19 BMW X4 has been a hard pill to swallow!😩
Any comment on interior road noise? Acura claims a 30% quieter cabin but most other reviewers haven’t found the cabin to be any quieter than any other vehicle in this segment.
I test drove the pre-refresh and was really disappointed with road noise. I test drove the refreshed version yesterday and was amazed at how much lower road and wind noise is now.
As we are shopping for 2 row SUV, we came to the conclusion, that this is perfect car minus poor MPG and crappy infotainment system that is gimped by lack of touch screen. We might end up with X3 because of these two factors which are hard to overlook - especialy the infotainment.
I don't understand why you would prefer full digital display for gages, it's always better when it's analog. You have enough digital technology without it.
I just sold my 2021 Ac ura RDX A specs...thanks God!!! I have dragy and i couldn't get better than 7.3 sec 0-60 no matter what combo I tried (traction off, traction on, D drive, S drive, holding the rpms). This car does not have launch control by the way. 1/4 mile according to draggy in the 15.6@93 but testing was done at 2600feet elevation. Have this car had a proper launch control and it would have shave a clean 1 second of the 0-60. I am glad i did not do the Ktuner of Hondata flash-pro like I was intended. As per the gas mileage, it was below mediocre on the hwy. On two occasions I travel on Interstate I-10 at posteds speeds of 80 mph and gas mileage was in the 19's. I am so happy we let the Acura go. As far is the car overall, it is a great car, the handling is incredible specially with the facrtory sticky low threadwear tires(240 threadwear I think). The interior is very roomy and the quality is outstanding. The brakes are mediocre, not impressive at all. Acura should have given this car a proper launch control instead of none. One of its achiulles tendon is the very limited transmission which apparently it wouldn't handle much torque. For anyone wondering, it is the same engine as the Type minus having a smaller turbo and different intake and programing software. The smaller turbo was choosen for faster response and to get the 4000lbs weight vehicle moving. The Type R instead can get away with the bigger turbo because it weights 3150 lbs and it has FWD so the engine has no trouble with the turbo spool up evenwith the larger turbo.
I traded my 2021 RDx in for 2023 Mercedes GLB. In my case, I don’t mind much the drag speed. It is our family and daily vehicle. My issues with it were the gas mileage, which was way low, I don’t if it’s the way Acura tuned it’s transmission, but I save a few 100 dollars a month with GLB. Second, the awful infotainment, I have no idea why they don’t stick a touch screen in there. The 2021 version has no USB ports which is hindrance, and no 12v in the cargo area, which was also a problem when tailgating. Also, after 10k miles mine started some squeaking noises in the roof area when I hit a bump on the road. Finally, we didn’t get a good deal in the lease for it; so we are actually paying the same monthly fee for our GLB which is about 12k more expensive (we the options we added). Note: A month or two before we traded the Acura in, it’s started having issues with the infotainment screen, it shut off twice on us while on the highway.
RDX Aspec vs. GV70 2.5T and RDX Type S vs. GV70 3.5T will both be very close matchups. The price creeps for me is killing my budget but boy I do want 1 of these 4 next year. I've test driven both models and the exterior/interior is better for my on the GV70 but the driving/handling/power train is better on the RDX for me. The true touch pad was not a deal killer for me as I got used to it very quickly. Very difficult choices.
I'm looking to buy one of these used. A well equipped A-spec after lease turn-ins are about 60% of the price. Sweet spot for what you get, I'd say! Thanks for the review.
Sadly and ironically, the reason Acura doesn't have Hybrids is because they listened. They released the NSX hybrid a few years ago, and one significant criticism made against that car is when Streetspeed717 said, "nobody asked for a hybrid"
At least $53k due to crazy dealers markup (msrp & markup). That’s why I am not in the market for a new vehicle. It’s stupid unless you absolutely need a car.
Acura has the HR-V based CUV called the CDX in China in turbo and hybrid models. Acura does have the Passport and Ridgeline if they wanted to use those.
i had the rdx 2.0 turbo, ride and handling is excellent coz of the sh-awd , but i dont like the new transmission there is a delay from going 2nd to 3rd , wish they could offer the new v6 which is used for type s.

Honda / acura really needs some sort of aftermarket support for their transmissions. I love the quick shifts and peppiness of it but in no way does it compare to BMW ZF transmissions. It’s why I passed up on an Aspec TLX when it first came out. I was like WTF is this crap. Never shifted when commanded , was slow and sluggish . They got rid of the 9 speed , and designed an in house 10-speed but went too conservative. People have complained it switches to 2nd way too early, when on the track, in manual mode, the car still switches gears before redline, causing instances where you command the next gear and it switches right before you so you went two gears up. (3rd to 5th). They need help.
@@chrisrobles2012I agree. If you are used to BMW and Audi, Acura 10 speed is far from performance. It’s geared to MPG and safety. It’s kind of a huge letdown. Honda and Acura must know the 10 speed can’t handle the abuse, so they cut back on throttle implementation to keep trans safe. Honda and Acura plan to go electric soon, so they won’t R&D a new transmission. For performance, bmw and Audi are still the best performing vehicles. BMW’s newer ZF8 is amazing.
I had no idea why Acura, Lexus and other luxury car manufacturers kept putting crappy tires on vehicles. Those tires were not cheaper, but they were crap. I wouldn't put any Good Year on my car even if they were free. I switched my tires from Michelin Premix to Cross Climate on my RDX right out of the show room. I put Michelin Defender in my RX350.
The Acura RDX type S will probably only get 55hp more, seeing the MDX is at 355hp it wouldn't be good for sales, unless they bump the hp in the MDX. I would definitely pick the RDX in this segment.
Sofy one of my complains on the prior year model of the a spec is that it was appearance only and didn't have the features of the advanced trim. Now you get the real adjustable dampers (not just drive modes) the heads up display and kick to open tailgate plus a I think a few more features (real spare tire and not just fix a flat?). I think this is an important add to the A spec to get these features... Could you comment if you tested out the different modes and notice a substantial change to comfort vs. sport vs. winter in the handling dynamics department?

We were actually supposed to drive the MDX Type S in Dec, however the event got cancelled due to COVID. We are now leaving this Weds to go and drive the MDX Type S!
Good channel, I love ur videos. The only advice is washing the cars before the video dirty like this and other videos I have look dont look good with ur good content
Too bad the fuel economy on the RDX is so bad! My 22 RDX Technology is rated at 27 mpg highway but I’ve never been able to get more than 23 mpg. My 19 BMW X4 with a similar 2 liter turbo would easily get 32/33 on the same roads. That’s over 30% better fuel economy from the X4 in the same class vehicle. What’s wrong at Honda/Acura?
Must be the gearing/HP. The 10 speed gives it more acceleration but in sport mode it leaves it higher up in the rpms which causes your gas mileage to go down. Also the bmw 2.0 turbo is 30 or 40 HP less . As you know, more HP or boost causes the engine to need more fuel. I’ve owned the 6cyl xdrive 35i and it never got great gas mileage. It never hit its highest mpg. Weird thing is my Honda Ridgeline gets about 29 to 30 mpg for highway which is well above what a truck should get. The X3 was around 16 to 19 mpg and it was weird not filling up as much after switching!
@@chrisrobles2012 I never did any side by side acceleration comparisons between the X4 and the RDX, but seat of the pants feel I don’t notice the RDX being any more powerful or responsive than the X4. My wife drives the RDX much more than I do, as she did the X4, but when we travel, which we do often, I do all the driving. I basically left both cars in the Normal mode and almost always drive nice and easy. I can tell you putting both in cruise control at 70 mph on the same road under the same conditions the X4, rated at 29 mpg highway, routinely returned 32-33 mpg, where the RDX, rated at 27 mpg highway can barely muster 23 mpg, both burning premium fuel. That’s a huge difference and I seriously doubt there is much difference in the two cars 0-60 times. I like the RDX in a lot of areas, but that’s a huge gap in fuel efficiency and hard to imagine that’s the best Honda/Acura can do.
@@chrisrobles2012 just out of curiosity, I did some research on the RDX vs the X4 and found the following test data from Car and Driver: 0-60: X4 - 6.1 RDX - 6.6 1/4 mile: X4 - 14.8 @ 94 mph RDX - 15.2 @ 93 mph. So what do we gain for that 30% lower fuel economy? 🤔
Razors Edge Adventures , so you want to ignore that the bmw 2.0 is 248 HP and the acura is 272hp? Do you want to ignore the gearing in both? You only want to accept a rated 0-60 time when I already explained that the 10 speed gets them off the line quicker . If you know anything about gearing and AWD you know that some cars do it better than others. The vehicles have been shown in numerous RU-vid videos showing their strength launching off the line in all different modes. For you to sit here and post 0-60 when your complaint is gas mileage is illogical. Those tests are done at WOT. That would not be real world gas mileage you complain of. Secondly, the acura would beat competitors off the line while sometimes holding it out to the end or sometimes losing. It all depends on gearing and shift points. 0.2 seconds on camera is virtually no difference. Something your butt dyno couldn’t even decipher. Back to gas mileage. The SUVs are both around 4100 pounds. The only other deciding factor to lower mileage would be aerodynamics. They aren’t much different as in they are both smooth vehicles compared to a flat front van/truck.
@@chrisrobles2012 not looking for a fight, but to your points: What good is more hp and more gears if they don’t improve 0-60 performance, 1/4 mile performance, passing performance or fuel economy? I quoted Car and Driver stats because they use instrumented test under controlled conditions with seasoned drivers who can get the best out of every vehicle. If the RDX 10 sp trans “gets it off the line quicker” then that should be reflected in the 0-60 time… right? I just so happen to know a lot about gearing and AWD, and by the way, have owned both of these SUVs as well as put many thousands of miles on each, so yes, that does make me somewhat of an expert when it comes to living with each. Unlike many, my information nor opinion are formulated by how many RU-vid videos I’ve watched. Just sayin! 😉
test drove both and I had a prior year RDX as a loaner for a few days while our MDX was services. The RDX is by far the better driving and handling vehicle as the SHAWD is legit. We live in the rockies so mountain and snow driving are important. The GV70 is to me much better looking and better interior so depends upon your priorities. The RDX still looks good and the GV70 handles just fine.
Hi Sofian, What would you choose between Acura RDX advance package vs Genesis GV70 advanced package. Genesis seems to have better interior and overall quality, but Acura RDX has adaptive dampers and better handling. What would you choose?
The super handling all wheel drive system is probably the best in the industry the way it helps the vehicle through turns and during the winter. Adaptive dampers are really awesome as well and keep the vehicle planted The only way you get adaptive dampers is to go with the 3.5T Genesis GV70 that will have adaptive dampers but that's also $67,000
Absolutely 💯 I’d take the Rdx any day over any nx Lexus failed on the new nx. The new NX looks more Toyota than Lexus. A “luxury" car shouldn’t resemble a rav4 or Camry. This market is one of the most competitive and Lexus simply failed to compete. It’s just a fact. In fact even mainstream cuvs like the CX5 or tuscon or sportage or venza are better choices. The Nx is the laughing stock of the segment, just about tied there with the QX50
This is a good review of the car, but I just can’t help but wonder why reviewers of luxury SUVs always put so much emphasis on power and performance. I wonder what percentage of SUV buyers make their purchasing decision on 0-60 times. I like my 22 RDX, but the fuel economy is pathetic and probably at the bottom of the class, and it’s not just the A-Spec version either. Babying this thing on a cruise controlled 70 mph long distance highway ride nets a poor 23 mpg, well below it’s rated 27 mpg, and 30% worse than my 19 BMW X4 that routinely got 32-33 mpg on the highway. That’s shameful. Heck, my 455 hp V8 Camaro can pull 29-30 on the highway. Really Honda? I think most buyers in this class will care a lot more about pain at the pump than 0-60 in their SUV.
@@Unkn0wnAzn probably a little. I made the switch in the name of long term reliability which remains to be seen. I had 35,000 on the X4 with only a couple minor service issues, but I was a little afraid of the long term reliability. I hope the RDX proves to be a good long term runner!
Land Rover also included hybrid option in their manufacturing, I'm really wondering why Honda engineers won't developed a hybrid version since they already have CR-v hybrid. Maybe MDX hybrid won't sold very well.
The Honda hybrids are mpg focused. Acura Sport Hybrids are performance hybrids. Not much overlap between the two hybrid systems. Acura system would add 64hp & 71tq to any powertrain it is mated to.
Agreed. The brand new nx is such a waste of a vehicle since it’s liter just a dressed up rav4 I warned sofyan to not drive it but he refused to listen to me and drove it. The fact that he was very disappointed with the interior and the 250 and 350 drivetrains just shows that I was right all along. And his disappointment is my enjoyment 😁
@@sjohnson7879 like seriously he and other journalists should consider consulting with me on whether future Toyota Lexus products are worth visiting or reviewing. Chances are that unless its on a bespoke platform that’s RWD, don’t bother even looking at it
love the car, and test drove it, but no way it does 0-60 in 5.7. i did several attempts, and my best time was 6.2 and slowest was 6.4. test drove a bmw x3, and got 5.9 seconds out of that car. the x3 pulled much better & felt way faster & smoother. regardless, i like the rdx a hair better even though it is slower
I have to disagree, I think the new NX has a more luxurious interior than the Acura not saying the Acura is bad but I’ve been on both and the new NX definitely feels more luxurious to me, but that’s just my personal opinion haha
Only a Lexus comformist would say the nx is more luxurious when in reality it isn’t. Thr Acura is way better all around inside and outside The Rdx definitely drives more premium and more European than any nx.
Imo Acura needs better interior designers like Mazda. Aside from the seats it just looks too utilitarian for a luxury or even sport premium brand. It really doesn't feel too diff from their Honda counterparts.
