[Review] Adventure Kings Side Awning

I review the Adventure Kings 2.5m x 2m Side Awning, a product I've used for several months and something I'm very happy with.
Details:
Purchased from 4wdSupaCentre.com for $89, featuring waterproof and UPF 50+ rated Ripstop fabric, anodised aluminium alloy poles and cast aluminium alloy joints/knuckles, PVC storage case and the bits you need to attach to your roof bars.
Pros:
The price is unbelievably good value, especially when compared with more costly brands. Sturdy, quality materials.
Cons:
... I cannot think of any! Honestly! Perhaps it could be said that the seams can drip, but really, for the price, I have zero complaints.

Thanks! I'm ordering one today. I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2dr and I have a home built awning .. but I really like this better ... and your vehicle is the same size as mine so the video sold me.

Just make sure you adjust the legs lower so it slopes when it rains, so the water runs off and doesn't pool in the middle.

One massive problem I see with that is what stops a gust of wind getting under it and blowing the whole awning over the roof to the other side of the car? Doesn't appear to be any tie downs for the vertical poles.

Hi Neil - there are holes for pegging down the feet of the poles, as well as guy ropes that attach at the top of the poles. There were a few times in Tassie where we hadn't pegged it down and the wind grabbed it and we had to hold on and peg it out but other than that it was fine. If it was super windy, like a few times we had in Kangaroo Valley in NSW we just didn't put it out.

Have to admit for the price I really don’t know how they make money from the awnings coming from China, great value for money, I haven’t owned one before but for the price you can’t go wrong

Cheaper materials and no quality control at the factory? Which means it's hit and miss coming off the production line?

I have a rhino sunseeker 2 and mates have the kings. While the kings looks fine and does the job if I was constantly touring I would prefer the rhino due to the far better fit/finish. If your just using it weekends every now and then I'd buy the kings one if I were to do it again. I've had my rhino for 5 years and it's still going strong! Pros for rhino: Rhino canvas isn't as see through Rhino canvas is thicker Rhino has flex knuckles that won't snap for when you forget to put in tie downs and your awning folds over the car in strong wind! Also allows better adjustment of roof pitch. Rhino shares one track for poles so when put away it is more compact Rhino dosent bow/flex in the middle under its own weight Pros for kings: For the price of the rhino awning you can get a kings awning with side walls, ground mat and a swag!

Jamacus Tompsiana thanks for the info mate! I definitely think that if I had the money for it and I'd be getting weekly or even daily use I'd go for something more hard wearing. Rhino Rack gear is clearly very high quality. Great to get an opinion on some other kit, thanks mate

I’ve replaced my Kings 2.5m x 2.5m side awning with a Supapeg awning. In my opinion the Kings awning is cheap rubbish with very thin aluminium. Yes...the Kings awning is cheap compared to Supapeg but the difference in quality is chalk and cheese.
