Tighter low end and noticeable more focused overall. Another strength is that you got rid of that very short, obtrusive reverberance. It will, undoubtably sit much better in a mix. These are qualities that is impossible to fully correct with equalization or compression.
Aside from a tiny bit more low mids with the halo, which is probably its inherent coloration, there isn't a significant difference in my opinion. Would have been interesting to hear it in a more reflective room.
For those of you watching this who are VO artists, and singers. There's no place to put your copy. So reading a script, lyrics or copy is nearly impossible with this.
@@paulinemarion4636 Take a thread and fix it to the top of the booth with tape. Make a hole in your paper where your text is on to put your thread in and tie a knot. Make paper as small as possible, including the text, so that you can still read it. you can also take 2 threads that are positioned on the right and left. Or just put the text on your IPhone and holt it in on hand to read from it besides your microphone.
Wouldn't the idea be to test a refelection filter in a more lively untreatet room to actually see what it's capable of, that's where most bedroom producers/byers would use it - right? ;-)
it’s absolutely nuts, Look up videos cuz there’s this one of this dude in a hall with hella reverb basically takes pretty much all of it out, After rolling off the extra high end a little it sounds like a booth it’s kinda nuts
Really nice that it is much less weight than the product from that "other company". Good to see that it is very stable on the mic stand. I sent the other company's product back after less than a week due to the heavy and clunky hardware.
I'm reminded of the time _a friend_ had a Phase One camera and IQ digital back on a less than adequate tripod. It worked until the day it didn't. The ensuing $3,000+ repair bill was as hard lesson. Would I put an Aston Halo on a cheap mic stand? Absolutely I would! But would a put my (oops... I meant his) Sphere DLX microphone on there with it? Absolutely not!
If I'm to conduct a meaningful comparison of the two performances I'll need to A/B them in a reasonable fashion which is kind of hard to do using the RU-vid player, innit. Why not put the files up for download? Listening at 1080p through my trusty monitoring chain I can definitely hear less room tone and splashy reflections but I'm wondering how pronounced the difference would be in a mix.
+Hermiel Hi, I think you're absolutely right in your assessment!!! It's a subtle difference on it's own ... but I was shocked to hear the way vocals suddenly sit in the mix when I started using a "vocal booth"!! Without them, you hear a slightly annoying room reverb that limits and waters down the type of reverb you want to add to your vocal.
Yep! Finally a usable portable vocal booth. Sounds tighter and mutes early reflections to a degree where they don`t interfere as much with the timbre of his voice. I think this will make it more flexible as far as further processing goes, and it will certainly make it easier to get the vocals to sit properly in the mix. Can`t beat a great sounding booth, but it`s much better than nothing. Some comment about liking the vocals better with the ambience of the room, (and that`s a perfectly valid point of view) but that ambience will make it harder to achieve a great result.
Hi, is the Aston Halo only designed for side address mics or can it be used effectively with a front address mic (I'm thinking specifically of a Schoeps Collete, which are 2cm in diameter and 13.8cm/5.4" long)? I realize from your review that the convex part can be moved back, but I imagine there's a point where that would diminish its effectiveness. Also, can the hardware be adapted for a front address mic? Thanks for your review.
Thank you for this review. I am thinking about to get me one of these for myself and my Aston Origin mic. My room is hardly treated (living room) so I am searching for some kind of solution. I am kind of in between the Halo and the Kaotica Eyeball. The sound of the Halo is definately better - but for me the one big drawback is it's size. Sometimes I need my sheets with lyrics or notes and it's can't think of how I can manage it around the Halo. The reviews of the Kaotica Eyeball are going from great to terrible. :)
For VO people, it seems it would be quite difficult to position this in any direction that would facilitate reading a script. Great for memorized lines, but that's not voiceover work. This must be intended for singers, hmmm, only?
I'm a voice over acteress & I have it. No different than a homemade square box mic shield insulated with foam lol! you like with that, you just figure out where to place the copy.
Try listening with headphones. You can really hear the difference. It doesn't drastically change the way James voice sounds, that's not what reflection filters do. To my ears, it just "tightens" things up. In general, vocal booths allows you to hear the vocal sit better in the track ... without the annoying room reflections that complicate even the amount of reverb you can apply. I have the SE version, which, compared to using NO filter, is still pretty good. I'd have to compare these side by side to hear a sonic difference. However, I think the SE hardware on my version is TERRIBLE!!! Any microphone with any weight to it, throws it off balance and you have to constantly make adjustments. In comparison, the Halo is much lighter and looks very easy to use. That alone, caught my attention .. along with the curved top to bottom design!!! I'm interested.

Don't see the justification spending almost 250 bucks for what it does. Given that it's mostly about the sound (who cares how portable it is if does little for the money) I also would've expected in a review like this a much more bigger focus on and a clear side by side comparisons of the unedited sound with and without the booth, instead of just talking about it.
just got mine today and after setting it up i noticed it was clearly made for the stone mics. my pearl man mic to much bigger then that tiny mic and the slide that lets you adjust back and forth prevents me from getting my mic deep into the filter.and if i want to get it back there its not centered in the middle of the filter.
Good video. I have a tube mic which gets hot and needs to be hung upside down like most tube mics. Does the Aston halo allow for a way to hang a tube muc upside-down without using a boom arm? Thanks.

I just bought it. Beware that with a microphone the size of a U87 things are not as straightforward as they look on the video. Mic is too long, you have to let it stick out too much. I solved it by turning the micro slightly to the left...
I'm not paid to write this ~ but everything he said about this product is true. Buy it from Amazon & if you aren't happy, they will refund you ALL of your money. His review was in 2016. 4 years later all of the reviews I watched before this one, had nothing to say but excellent things about this product. I received mine 3 days ago. I saw this video today while searching for something else & I thought I'd give it a listen to. I understand what you mean trying to find a true review bcuz people are paid to represent. One reason I go to Best Buy to purchase my electronics and such is to speak to someone knowledgeable in this area bcuz they don't work for commission. They too had great things to say about this product. i hope this helps.
How does this compare to the sE electronics SPACE?? I used to use the SE Electronics Pro and then upgraded to the SPACE recently. Should I switch to this product instead? I don't care what it looks like, I'm only interested in getting the best sound in a nontreated room.
That’s not the intended use. It’s for someone in a poorly treated acoustic space that wants to sing into a mic. If you’re doing voice over work and need a script visible, you should be in a well treated booth already. Use a mic stand with the mic dropping down, just above their sight line so they can see the script.
Does anyone know how I can attack my Neumann TML 103 to this? I just bought it and im so confused, do I buy there craddle and will it even fit my neumann?
D-Gib Studios. I have not tried this out but I am leaning towards this product. We currently use the eyeball out on our blue kiwi and I loose almost all my relationship with my mic. I love walking up to a beautiful mic like the kiwi, and being excited to perform with it. The eyeball covers it up and i often don't like the relationship although the eyeball performs well. Nothing like the boost I get mentally from walking up to a beautiful mic.
Hi, I want to prevent my sound going outside and disturbing my neighbours. I also looked at ISOVOX. Can someone suggest me the most effective and not too expensive voice isolation which can help muffle my sound. So, that I can practice singing without disturbing others. Thanks
Treatment and sound proofing are totally different. You won't be able to stop your neighbours hearing with something like this or even any kind of treatment really. As a starter, make sure all air gaps are covered. For example the bottom of your door, and the edges too.
Fuschia B... Clearly you don't know what AUD is. Let me guess. You're American? AUD is Aussie dollars. And it's gone up to $530 AUD on Amazon since I posted the original comment. I would invest that money in some affordable room treatment. And no, you don't want to make your space acoustically dead. You just wanna treat it for reflections.
