This is probably a highly requested locomotive because there is a Maine Central Pacific locomotive undergoing restoration in Maine which is number 470. I believe the locomotive is in this paint scheme. Also, there is a Maine central consolidation locomotive on display at Conway Scenic Railroad, but 470 is probably the reason for the requests.
Another good review! As I've said often, Sound Value is the BEST value in Model Railroading today! And the RUNNING compares to much more expensive models. If they ever added a fan blown smoke unit (like BLI), B'Mann would dominate the market - as long as they could still keep the pricing far away from BLI and MTH!
The Maine Central Railroad Company was a former U. S. Class I railroad in central and southern Maine. It was chartered in 1856 and began operations in 1862. By 1884, Maine Central was the longest railroad in New England. Wikipedia Headquarters: North Billerica, Billerica, MA Founded: 1862 Dates of operation: 1862-1981 Reporting mark: MEC Previous gauge: originally 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) gauge Parent organization: Pan Am Systems
Curious how the loco runs in DC power besides DCC. Does the sound work in DC mode, or not, and if so what sounds play? I know with BLI locos you can control sounds through a peripheral either from them or a 3rd party seller, but I've not been able to find out how to control Bachmann sounds.
What's the word on the Bachmann steamers with the smoke units? Is it a Seuthe-type unit, does it puff, or does it just dump fluid on the rails? I can't seem to find any info on them whatsoever, so I'm hoping you've had experience with them.
I've been to two model train shops and both of them trash Bachmann products. I own a Bachmann starter set and still use the loco and rolling stock. I personal have not had any problems with Bachmann. Curious to know what everyone here thinks of Bachmann products. Thanks in advance.
Love your videos, outstanding job on all of them. Question though, why are you always in a hurry and acting pressed for time? Is there a limit on how long your videos can be?
Does ur unit rock back and fowards on the third drive wheels when pushing down on the cab roof. if so the unit can have derail isues because heavy cars cause the front drivers wheels to derail in curves. And pop back in on the opposite curve and then back out on the next any swithes after a derail cause a reck. It is just the front two drivers that rides up an over rail all my other bachmann steam run fine
Thomas Shannon while not in Maine Central markings, Conway Scenic Railroad #252 and #573 are both of MEC heritage with 573 being in the maroon scheme and 252 being in the yellow scheme. Both with slightly modified MEC logos except for the lettering
+jliwii200, Maine Central 470 a 4-6-2 is being rebuilt after sitting out side for around 50ish years since the late 60's she was just moved via truck in august to her new home 90ish miles away in Ellsworth Maine, she will hopefully be running by her 100th birthday in 2024, out of all the hundreds of Maine central steam loco's her and two 2-6-0's are the only ones left. Here is her move (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jgDjvnK0uEM.html video credit me)
Addendum: I really like the low rail code you're employing. Looks like code 40 !! IF true, does this same track come with wooden ties instead of the concrete type here ? What gauge IS this ? Do they make switches of this code ?
Sorry. I HAD to add this. In another steam review you count 5 chuffs per wheel revolution. And here too. Did I misunderstand something along the way, about steam ? There are 2 cylinders. There are 2 chuffs per side of loco. If one side has side-rod at 3 o'clock, then other other side is at either 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock. The chuffs add up to 4 per 1 wheel revolution. Where is the 5th chuff you are counting ? Is there a 5th cylinder in the chassis under the smoke box ? Does package/box state 3 cylinders/5 chuffs ? What am I missing here ? Thanks, Mark
Addendum: At 6:29 in, you state 3 chuffs but that is the fourth chuff heard, not 3; plus some other counting after that....What ?? What's with the 5 ??
