Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO - it's a Wespe! Battlefront have replaced the resin and metal 10.5cm Wespe SP Artillery with a plastic kit. And as a bonus, the kit can make a 7.5cm Marder II tank-hunter as well.
Join me as we look at the kit and how it goes together. Plus our usual round-up of a bit of history and how the Wespe might go on the Flames of War tabletop.

I wish that Marder kit had been available earlier. I do like the look of that variant.

It looks good. I didn't build that version, but I assumed it would be fairly popular.

Was wondering what to paint next. How I know. 😃I build and painted the Marder. Nice one too. One addition to the historical facts.Self propelled artillery has also another big advantage: It is less vulnarable to counter battery fire because it can move away quickly. When the "Wespe" was introduced this was pointed out in the first reports about the new vehicle.

Trekan - Ooh. Thanks for the info on counter-battery fire. I hadn't thought about the ability for quick displacement after firing, but that would totally be a thing.

Great review of a really useful kit :). I got mine in the Tank Training Company Box from Modelling for Advantage and then ordered some 3D printed spare tracks so I could build both models.

Wow, Aled. I had no idea there were people offering 3D printed hull and track sets for these. It makes sense. There's a *lot* of spare plastic on here. It's a shame for it to go to waste. Have you received the replacements yet? Who makes them and how did they work for you?

If anyone purchases this, I implore you to reuse the unused pieces as either fortifications or with different/home made lower hulls, you never know if they will come in handy
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
It does seem a shame to let it go to waste. Aled did mention buying 3D printed hull and track parts to build the Marder as well, so there's that option available.

Great review as always. I would love to add some of these to my German forces but have some Hummels to try on the table first. Keep up the good work. Always love painting to your videos Harry.

I'm sure that I have some extra AA/MGs. Would be nice to create a Marder emplaced in cover (i.e. the tracks and lower hull are below the emplacement wall) from the extra pieces. This would allow for building some nice ambush vehicles. :) .
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
It does seem a waste of all the extra parts not to use them…

What would you like to know? I would consider doing it. Let me know what it is you need. Is it modelling the guns, or the lists for each variant?
@e-4airman124
@e-4airman124 Год назад
@@FogofWar I would like to know how to model each of the different guns that can be placed on U Carrier. Are there combinations of guns? What about the piat guy can he be placed aboard with another gun in the hull? etc thank you sir😃

Nice review but it seemed to stress the Wespe and I have 6 of the resin/metal ones from V3. I would have liked to have had more on the Marder II. They would fit well with Hungarian MW, FJ and lastly Berlin suppoprt.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
Concentrating on the Wespe was a deliberate choice in the review. Covering both vehicles in-depth would have made it too long. But maybe I’ll look at a short Marder supplemental video one day.
@leewerling5082
@leewerling5082 Год назад
@@FogofWar I understand completely. I do have 6 Wespes from V3. I also have 4 Marder II's from V3 (resin/metal), but playing Hungarians and Germans, I'm considering the Marder II box set so I'll have 4 for each army. They're my favorite Marder.

All the MG on the Wespe is for, is to discourage infantry moving up to assault them.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
And in real life I'm sure it does a good job of that. I was thinking more of some over-enthusiastic Flames of War player charging his Wespes into close combat as assault troops...

@@FogofWar I meant in game too, and agree a new player could think it would be a good idea to use it as an assault vehicle

Could I stick the Pak 40 on the Wespe chassis and proxy it as a Marder III M? I know it’s the wrong chassis and the driver’s compartment swaps sides, but the only Marder III M in plastic is getting increasingly rarer and the Wespe fits the general profile.
@christianwilson5956
@christianwilson5956 Год назад
That's a great idea. As your opponent I'd absolutely let you use it in place of a different marker variant and just use the original vehicles stats.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
It's your model. You could do what you want. You might need to do some modification of the mounting peg under the gun trunnion. The contact points for the 10.5 and 7.5cm guns are different. But the Wespe hull has the bigger hole, so it might work out fine. Easier than the other way around.
@michaelball4940
@michaelball4940 Год назад
How easy is it to magnetized the kit so you can swap between marder and wepse?
@FogofWar
@FogofWar Год назад
With the rear hull extension for the longer Wespe chassis, I'm not sure these would be easy to magnetize without some major plastic surgery. Maybe someone will post up a 3D-printable hull and track pieces. Otherwise you might have to sacrifice some Panzer II kits...

Yes, it does. Resin gun crew figures, if I remember correctly.
