I bought this unit after much research and I completley agree with your review. Something you touched on but was the deciding factor for me was the reputation regarding customer service. When I first recieved my Champion I went through the recommended break in and was excited to try it out. Fired it up hooked to trailer tried the a/c and it went into overload right away. Called Champion. They walked me through about 45 minutes of troubleshooting and determined the module was bad. They sent a new one overnight delivery. It works great now. For the trouble they also sent my wife and I free champion polo shirts and a free cover for the unit. Now THAT is world class customer service.

Warning. I have this unit. If the battery is dead, you cannot start the generator at all ON GAS other than jumpstarting the battery. There is an internal relay that needs electricity to switch the unit from Propane to Gas. Pulling the card doesn't work because it won't get the gas due to the relay. Propane works fine without the battery. (If you leave the battery on for a month, it will kill the battery requiring a replacement. I had to deal with that today) Otherwise an excellent unit.

Thanks for the info. I was in Canada and mine wouldn't start after leaving the power switch on. I was worried it was a gas issue or something. I jumped my battery this morning and it fired right up. I let it run an hour and will check the battery in a few days to see if it held a charge.

It's always exciting to watch a new Loloho video. Yet another great job on the Champion dual-fuel generator. Sean's sense of humor and witty sarcasm are truly appreciated, and are in my opinion, a big part of why your site is so successful. Where else can you learn so much and be so entertained at the same time? Kudos for the American flag behind the workbench! (Mike Carmouche)

We have this generator and love it. We bought this generator because it could run on propane. We run ours using our low pressure propane port on our trailer, yes even the AC. Champion customer service emailed us the instructions. It was a quick, easy, and cheap.

I have had mine a year. Only have run propane which runs cleaner than gasoline and less maintenance. Full service camp sites are getting hard to get into unless you reserve 3-4 months in advance. Having this low cost high quality generator has opened up a lot more dry camping options without losing the benefits of great coffee in the morning and ac when needed. The biggest advantage is keeping your batteries topped up. As to ease of starting, under my supervision, my 5 year grandson can fire it up. Love this product, great video on the product.

@@normnilsson7208 excellent question. I can't believe he runs a 15,000 btu on eco mode! Does it kick up the more power and loud noisy mode every time the compressor goes back on? Besides using propane will decrease the power output by about 10%.

The fact that you review purchased products rather than "free from the manufacturer" products gives your channel the credibility that so many RV channel reviews lack. I don't remember ever watching a free product review that ended with the words, don't buy this. And thank you for not spending ten minutes filming unboxing. I never understood why that was a part of a product review.

We broke in our 3400W dually and then promptly subjected it to the gauntlet of Mobile to Newfoundland. It performed excellent until our last couple of days. It got progressively louder and it turns out that the muffler vibration broke the exhaust manifold weld. I called Champion and they set me up with the repair without question and were super nice to boot. I recently used it pretty thoroughly and it performed flawlessly. I get 6 to 6.5 hours of runtime on gas with our 15K AC running full tilt. I absolutely love this generator, even with the hiccup. I haven't done anything on propane yet.

It started to corrode the metal parts inside. I cleaned it up and installed a new AGM battery and it works fine. I would buy this again. I purchased this exact generator from your store this year and it has been great. My wife and I use it to power our toy hauler that we use to travel with our dogs to Frisbee dog competitions and performances. We replaced a cumbersome set up of two Honda EU2000 inverter generators with this unit. With the Hondas I had to lug them from the inside of the trailer, hook up the parallel wiring kit, hook up the extended run fuel tank, fill the tanks with gas, and then pull start each generator. Now I simply wheel the Champion down the ramp of the toy hauler and around the front and plug it into my trailers LPG system and push the electric start. I paid a RV service center to install a quick connector at my LPG tanks so I could make use of the two 30 gallon tanks of LPG. I had to call Champion customer service to find out what pressure the generator runs on (13-15”wc) to confirm this would work. Once I got to speak to someone they were great. I will also mention that the Hondas required a 15 amp to 30 amp adapter and their receptacle sits near the bottom without enough room for the cord to bend causing the plug to not be fully inserted. I love not having to carry a gas can. As far as noise I measured the two Hondas running together and they were only one dB less than the Champion. This is a great generator without the Honda price.
@LongLongHoneymoon
@LongLongHoneymoon 5 лет назад
Thanks for your report! Many great points... Using your RV propane makes total sense, and the noise output vis-a-vis TWO Hondas is also a good point. While I wish these were a little more quiet, they offer great value for money and the noise output is not unreasonable.

I bought this same unit. For Mr this was too loud and I didn't want to be "that guy". I returned it and bought a micro air and a Honda 2200. I'm very glad I did. The noise was my only complaint with the champion. Oh, and the weight!

Reason it cant be done is you need to manually close the propane valve to turn it off.

@@Edwardsjourney I'm sure that's completely tied to the lawyers. They could easily build an "off" into the remote, but with propane, it's a little different than with gas. I'm pretty happy with my Champion, though

I have the same model for about 2 years. Still going srong no issues. Even the battery held enough charge to start first try when pulled from winter storage, I didnt have it hooked up to a charger. Even got to experence their customer service when I bought it. Upon umboxing the regulator was broken and they shipped a new one no questions asked.

Bought the same unit recently and did a Colorado 2 week vacation. Powers the AC and all light and a hairdryer, but not the AC and the microwave with lights at the same time. powers the water heater and AC and lights easily. Love it. It is heavy, but well made. So easy to start and the switch to other fuel is so easy. Seems quieter on LP. easily does the AC overnight on LP on the power-saving setting. the cover is very nice and worth buying if you carry in the open truck bed. I wish they made weather proof covers for the 110 outlets on the front. I was surprised they don't offer remote, but the logic of the gas shut-down to turn it off on LP wouldn't work because you'd still have to go out and turn off the LP valve--a safety issue I think as well. Use LP if you're using it all night to sleep with AC. So far, it's quieter than everything else around me.

Oh yea Sean, as a side note, while the a/c is running I was able to run the fridge and microwave and all of the lights at the same time. On gasoline. Haven't tried it on lpg yet.

I have Champiion's 3500W generator, looks just like these, it is gasoline, and REMOTE START! I have around 115 running hours on it now and it is great! The remote start is the game changer, no longer do I have to go outside in the cold,wet,dark,early,late to start or stop the generator, just press the button on the remote! Champions are great, I had one of their open frame construction ones before this and it worked fine too..

The biggest difference is not the wattage but what does your trailer need. 30amp service is 110. That is a dedicated 110v 30amp generator which is necessary for a typical trailer. A 220v generator isn’t necessarily the right generator and it is important to understand how much power on 110 or 220 your rig needs. A 50amp trailer needs 220 as it pulls from each leg of the 220 which is only 25 amps per side.
@M16Scow
@M16Scow 5 лет назад
I'm sorry but you don't have it quite right. A single phase 240 volt supply gives 120 volts 50 amps on each leg to neutral. Most RVs don't make use of 240 volts. Therefore as long as you balance the load and don't exceed 50 amps on either leg, you can potentially get a total of 100 amps at 120 volts from a 240 volt 50 amp service.

I have the 3500 Watt version of this genie. Currently in the 2nd season with it and it's working very well. Two things that I found very important while using it. One, make sure "nothing is plugged into the genie while starting it". 2nd, before turning "off ....unplug all electrical cords". I mistakenly started the genie while attached to the trailer ...a "newbie mistake" and I had an issue with performance. A call to "customer service" guided me thru a "re-set" and everything returned to normal. Finally, although we have very cold winters in Montana and the genie is stored in a "heated garage" during the winter the battery went dead. My bad...I should have removed it and put it on a "battery maintaince charger". I've not recharged the battery with a charger but noted that running the genie over a series of "off/on" uses totaling 11 plus hours has returned the battery to full charge. This unit is a "very good" product in my view and I've recommended it to a lot of people. One more point..yes..it's heavy. Therefore, when "boondocking" I leave the genie in the bed of my truck with the exhaust pointed in a safe direction. It's also "cabled securely" to keep it from "walking away". A recent camping trip with multiple days of rain and snow with the genie tucked under the bed cover kept it nice and dry and we....the campers comfortably esconced inside our little traveling home.

WOW! I thought you were being facetious about the cicadas! I had no idea they were that loud. We don't get them around here, so I had no clue. We have a small Honda whisper quiet generator that we bought years ago just as household emergency equipment, and we used to also take it out on a boat we used to have. The starting sequence on that, I had to use a 'naughty word' acronym to remember: FUel, Choke, Key! I'm sure you can spot the word--to start--F** the generator! LOL

I can vouch for the great customer service. I have the dual fuel open frame gen as my emergency power for my house. I have only used it on propane. When I have questions they get back to me right away. When a critter chewed into a hose, they replaced in free, with rush delivery. Hondas are great but this was one third the cost and Honda did not have a duel fuel option without a modification.

Hey, that filling / measuring cup is cool! Oh, I bought this generator already, but I don't have enough experience with ity yet to say how much I like it, but I can say something else:The customer support at Champion Power is real good. there is a long story, but I'll skip it and say how happy I am with Champion. Oh, one more thing is that the battery requires a trickle charger if you want to have dependable operation with infrequent use. 'Gotta go, I am getting a little itching.

I have a 9000 watt Champion, it will run a city but way too noisy. Also have a Harbor Freight Predator 3500 watt love it really quite. Mind you we are not full time boon-dockers, and I have pretty good array of solar panels. So we don’t have to use all that much. You should b put the decibel reader on when you start up See-More. Love the channel.

The Beauty of propane is that burns cleaner. So clean that the oil will be clear when it is time to change the oil. The in June should last longer by using propane. The soot caused by burning gasoline is abrasive. Do not think of because the oil is not black that you don’t have to change it. There is always “blow by” in A internal combustion engine. Therefore the oil eventually gets diluted by the fuel. Using Archoil friction modifier is excellent to use in the engine. Great product.

I am brand new to RVing and just got this generator today. What amazing timing to come across this video that you just did, which will be so helpful for me to listen to again tomorrow when I set it up and start it. I got the UPS driver to put it in the back of my pickup truck because I knew I wouldn't be able to by myself. Is it possible to run this while in the bed of my truck, or do I need to hook up some kind of ramp to get it to the ground? I plan to run it exclusively on propane. BTW, I love all your videos and have learned much from both of you. Thank you.

Well, truthfully many people run them from the beds of trucks. However Champion advises against it (legal liability concerns). Definitely keep the exhaust far away from anything.

It's quite unique because of the propane option. If you want propane, I guess it's #1. Personally, becaue I am comfortable using gasoline, I like the remote electric start of the 3100W unit. I like the noise output of our Yamaha & Atima, and wish they had these features!

Any decibel testing from inside the camper? Also, we had a seriously noisey generator and compressor going on a construction site back in the day. We used to prop a piece of 2" thick foam board insulation between us and the machinery just so we didn't have to yell over the noise. It worked pretty good. I'm wondering if it would make this generator quieter also. What can you typically run off this generator at once? Fridge? AC? TV?

What is your favorite generator in this space? We are needing to purchase one and like the versatility of the dual fuel, and being able to hook multiple together. So those boxes are checked. The thing it is missing is a 50 amp for us (hoping that size is available) and also a remote start. We recently saw an Energizer generator eZV7500 7500/6500 we would love to see you review but I believe it may be simply too heavy for us to handle at around 200 lbs. But it has quite a few perks and we would have an all in one. Would love some thoughts!
