Guys, sorry I'm a bit late to the party, and I know I sound like a broken record, but thanks again for the great in depth review. I could not be more thrilled that the countless hours, weeks, months, years that Serge put into this game are so well received as to not only give you such great pleasure in playing the game, but also had you inkling as to a "top 10 of 2021" nomination. I stay the course and do everything I can to move Legion Wargames forward and make the production and customer experience the best it can be but ultimately it is the designers, and in this case especially the additional design & development work that has won the day. My hat is off to Serge Bettencourt for his efforts! And of course along with the original designer Tim Gale, and Michel Oiumet who assisted Serge greatly. Just a bit of history here. Tim Gale is a renowned WWI French tank expert, having penned at least one book on the subject as well as being the theme of his masters studies. The historical documents he used that I've seen show in extreme detail exactly where on the battlefield each individual tank broke down, and all the circumstances and terrain associated with it. Because as we know there were no anit-tank weapons and these early tanks just couldn't stand up to the rigors of combat. Tim designed this game as a class project for Phil Sabin's Wargame Design Class at Kings College. It's original footprint was 11" x 17" with some 6 pages of rules. To look at it then and see it now is akin to what it's like to see a caterpillar turn into a Monarch butterfly (of which I've raised 30+ this summer from egg to butterfly to help the plight of the vanishing Monarchs - personal plug!). Really enjoyed watching you two, as always. Randy Lein - Legion Wargames
I did a full playthrough of this! This is one of my favorite games of the year. Plays really well solo as well, and the decisions become very agonizing, which is rare when you play something by yourself.
Wow really intriguing CRT choice mechanism- that’s fascinating. It sounds like a great game. Big thanks for sharing another great US lesser-known game publisher. A great & engaging discourse. Tempted to get this game. Thank you.
Pre-ordered this game and was impressed with the contents when it arrived. Been waiting a while for a VASSAL module (which doesn't look promising), since I can't leave any game set up for more than a day.
Thanks for this review Alexander and Grant. I love this scale of wargame and it is an exciting swift game play by the look of it, lots of movement and tactical decisions. It's strange but in these times I find board wargames kind of relaxing and a perfect escape from day to day stress. This game is on my list!😀
At first I thought you had a different map than the one I got - but I took my copy out - turns out the colors of the map are brighter on your video, but its the same map. :) I hope they continue with this game system.
"Swah-saahn" is how it's pronounced, pretty sure. LOL'd at putting him on the spot for the title. I just refer to French as 'Lazy Latin' due to it often omitting the pronunciation of letters or syllables. Usually those on the end.
Thanks for these! Unless I missed it, I’m hoping both of you are willing to rank or at least give your top three of this run of World War I games you’ve done…
Once we're done with our event we're going to do a big wrap up video discussing all the WWI games, so you might be able to get a better picture over all from that.
