DeWitts has just provided me with a promo code for my viewers. Use code “MyCorvetteLife” at checkout to get 10% off. That’s a pretty significant chunk of change!

Great video. Thanks for the clarity on the C5 cooling. Many do not understand that C5’s do run hotter than they believe.

I bought a 2004 c5 base in Fla. and drove it home about 900 miles. The temps went from 220's to 240. I wasnt aware the car had the hairline crack on the top of the side tank on driver's side. I did some research and bought a DeWitts and since I installed it the temps are right on now. The car rarely see's 220's, and thats in bumper to bumper, 90° temps. Its been in the car over a year now, and 4000 miles and no issues at all. So far it was $$ well spent. All aluminum, no cracked plastic, I like it. It looks good too. I hated hiding it under the shroud, cant see any of it. Good video Chris. This reinforces confidence in my own decision, having purchased the same product. Thanks.

I made a different decision, after the same failure that is characteristic of the stock plastic radiator. Since my OEM radiator lasted almost twenty years and about 90, 000 miles before failing, I decided on keeping with the much lower weight and cost involved with the factory unit, since I could buy about four of the OEM radiators for the cost of one of the very fine DeWitts units. Knowing that the fuel and air swirls effecting the combustion events in the heads are at factory temp specs also effected my decision, since I am not well enough informed to start messing around with carefully optimized interactive motor systems, nor do I care to get that deep into the correct stewardship of my car. Once in a while I might go for a non OEM part, if I can understand all the interactive dependent systems that might be effected, like changing Brake rotors or pads, as long as everything is a matched set, and not just the fronts, so you don't upset the OEM braking balance.

108, in a hopped up vette, windows and roof on, and still no A/C? You gotta be dying in there.

I did the upgrade in my C5 as well. For AZ summers it’s the only way to go. Dude, I don’t know how you drive in AZ without A/C!

As a fellow zonie I appreciate this eval. Summer SUCKS… I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy the shrouded fans instead of the full radiator… thoughts…?

Love that exhaust. I have the same one (I believe) minus the long tubes and pipe. That stuff will probably happen this winter…
@colt5189
@colt5189 3 года назад
On my C4, many many years ago I tried a 180 stat just because I guess there was a fad going on at the time, and in the end. I found that during the winter, I pretty much had no hot air. So I went back to the 195 stat. I also use stats that have a jiggle valve in them to help bleed air bubbles out and a Permatex plastic gasket as there is no mess to clean up next time. I have a programmable chip in mine. And I don't have any overheating issues. Though I did program the fans to come on a little sooner just to help cool it down a little sooner as on mine, there is a known problem of the L98 blowing head gaskets.

Finally got the motivation to install the DeWitts and SPAL fans in my 2001 C5 (w/A4) two days ago. So far, so good. Have not seen over 200 degrees yet. Not sure why the high speed fan switches on at 196-degrees with AC off? May have to check that out.

Only time you want a lower temp thermostat is when your running super charger or turbos. N/A you want a higher temp for most compression and least emissions 210 220 is a good temp

Hey Chris, nice presentation. I’m getting ready to install this radiator in my 2004. Did you use the rubber grommet from the stock radiator on the passenger side? Thanks

I took mine out on a 130 mile round trip yesterday. It was 108 degrees here. I did a long stretch at 90mph. My car never got about 196 degrees. It got to 201 degrees at a stoplight. I think the hottest my car has ever been up to is 207 degrees in stop and go Las Vegas traffic. That's with the stock radiator, water pump etc. What did yours run at with the stock radiator?
@mycorvettelife
@mycorvettelife 3 года назад
Stock radiator after installed the front splitter it was impossible to keep the temp down. It would go to 260 if i let it. Before the splitter is was in the 220-230s.

Thanks for the vid What city temps do you run with AC on? im cammed and my temps can reach 250 with ac on in traffic. im still stock rad with 160 stat
@mycorvettelife
@mycorvettelife 3 года назад
I haven't had working AC for a long time, but 250 is too high. If the temp doesn't go down when the hi speed fans turn on at 236 then you have an issue.

Great video but without running A/C not a very true test for Phoenix Az. Especially if you were to get caught in rush hour traffic on the freeways here.
@mycorvettelife
@mycorvettelife 3 года назад
It's not going to go up 50 degrees with the AC on, so I think the point is proven.

@richardelliott8352

respectfully, I disagree with the statement that modifying the stock cooling system is a necessity , by using your own statements about optimum power temps at approximately 7 minutes into the video. The combustion events in the heads are designed for the factory settings that result from the matched interaction of the properly functioning factory systems. If you have as designed needs for the car, changing a system away from the original design temperatures yields no performance benefits in such a well thought out and sophisticated system. It's not like the engineering team , with multi million dollar development budgets and sophisticated testing, were just randomly throwing together complex interactive systems, or didn't know that bigger radiators were an option for the engine they had just designed and tested for over 200, 000 projected miles on a dyno.

Yes, you should. They will sell anything people are willing to buy. And it’s “you’re”.
@theflying70
@theflying70 3 года назад
@@mycorvettelife People can't see to go ahead and grasp the fact that all a 160 degree thermostat does is go ahead and open sooner and nothing else. Also, a change to a 160 stat is not an 'upgrade' as you stated in the video.
