Although this X-line model is fairly bare bones..bump up to the EX and get quite a bit more for your money. What do you think of the new Kia Soul? *Thanks for watching and have a great day!*
Canada may not have the turbo engine, but the Soul comes with more amenities. The Canadian EX trim (similar to the S-Trim in the US) comes with a wireless charger, more safety equipment, heated seats, heated steering wheel, rear armrest, illuminated sun visor, and remote keyless entry for only $23,000 CAD MSRP. That's a pretty hard deal to pass up.
THAT Door oh Blank Handle space over your drivers head would drive me crazy. I think this was one of the BEST described vehicles I have ever heard. Much more understanding of the vehicle. AWESOME
You should had titled it the things" I like and dislike" about the Kia X line 🤔as you kept comparing it to the GT line as your review make me not want to buy the x line for which I decided to view this video 🤷♀️
The IIHS assessed the LX, S, and X-line headlamps as “poor” overall with extremely poor low beam performance. Although the EX headlamps also received an overall “poor” rating, primarily due to some oncoming glare, the low beam performance was quite good. The difference is due to the projector beams on the EX versus the reflector beams on the LX, S, and X-line trims. Note that LED headlamps are available on the EX as part of the Designer Package. IIHS rated the LED headlamp performance as “Good”, contributing to the Top Safety Pick + assessment! As always, an excellent review by Prime! However, you forgot to mention that the little shelf where you stored your phone is a wireless charger on EX and above. Impressed that Kia includes hydraulic hood struts and a spare tire in this price class; many more expensive vehicles do not. Also nice is the standard roof cross bar prep; no need for extra roof rails!
Yeah that makes total sense with the rating! It was pretty bad with these. Thank goodness the EX can get those LED, which I would definitely upgrade. Thanks for the I for and kind words! 😁👍
I just purchased a Soul EX last week. I also added the "Designer Collection" to get all the LED front and tail lights. I did not want the 18" wheels that come with the Designer Collection but KIA does not give you a choice in the matter. I love the car so far but my fuel economy right now is showing at 19 mpg which is far below the 27 mpg advertised and my car does not like a pothole. That's tough when you live in a city like Atlanta with all the potholes. When I change tires, I may switch the wheels to 17". Hopefully that extra bit of sidewall will make it better. Now I need to figure out how to use all the new technology in it. Love the 10.25 infotainment screen.
Very cool, good choice with the EX and the options. That’s a great value. I definitely agree on the wheel size too..that’s a bummer and hopefully the extra rubber would help. Enjoy it 😁👍
Four months in to my GT with sunroof package and love it. Little touchy with the start stop function, but love it and winter in Ohio and don't use the heat very much. The vents keep me plenty warm and average 34 mpg. Nice video
Not sure about this one. Will have to check out the turbo next. Will make my way through the videos. I appreciate your kindness. Vehicles are my new passion.
And just FYI....KIA is having trouble with the DCTs in the Hyundai and KIA lines with the 1.6 Turbo. They are overheating and stranding drivers. Not sure what the issue is with that transmission but it's the reason I chose not to buy the turbo. Obviously, KIA gives you a great warranty on the engine and transmission but I just didn't want to take a chance and have to deal with it.
Nolan, this must be your favorite vehicle cause you’ve done reviews on about three or four models 🤣. They all look the same to many degree. You and those facial expressions 😭. Good review buddy 👍
MoNo K haha man seriously. Kia switched companies for managing their vehicles here and the new company must not have known I had the other one. Oh well lol. I was expecting a Nissan when this showed up but I wasn’t gonna say no lol
Do the back seats fold down flat, after you remove the head rest? What is it with Kia and being stingy with fog lights? BTW, Hamsters slouch, they don't need lumbar support. Thanks! Very helpful info here!
Very good review! Practicality is the word. I have a 2016 base that has been serving me well with the 1.6L /6 Spd manual. Back seats very roomy and cargo space a plenty. The GT would definitely be the next one for me but I think I will miss changing gears, I love all the additional/optional equipment that you can get. Keep up the great reviews
Thank you very much. That’s awesome and I’m glad to hear it. I hear ya and I wish you could get the new GT with that manual but they offer so much for the price overall. I appreciate the kind words!
Kia needs to just do LED’s on all the trims. These hologens looks weak. LED’s really make the difference at night. I took a road trip last weekend and drove a 2017 XC90 we have at the dealership. I was amazed at the light they put out. I had no issues driving the back roads or the highway. They made the HID’s I have in my personal car look week. Anyway, I’m still not 100% on this new design. I still think the last gen had a nicer overall design. And it’s a shame they did away with the pano roof. Great addition to your main Soul review. They want me to start doing videos at work. I need pointers! Haha.
Yes they do...once in on a straight away..the distance with these is terrible and kinda scary lol. I can imagine...good lights make all the difference. Dude that’s awesome! Like walkarounds or full reviews or what? I’d be happy to help in anyway possible
Prime Autotainment Yeah, after driving that Volvo over the weekend, I was driving to work early Wednesday morning and it was raining. I actually thought I saw something in my lane and hit the brakes. Turned out to just be a dark spot in the pavement but I was definitely having issue with the HID’s on my Subaru. Thinking about an new car after the new year and LED’s with high beam assist with be a must. I will be doing walk arounds of the vehicles in inventory. I do not like hearing myself so that will probably be the biggest issue. That’s funny about the new company giving you another Soul, but at least it was a different type. Now if they would just bring you a Subaru by mistake! 😆
Good idea with the high beam assist. Definitely nice to have. Can even lower insurance rates I believe. If you have any questions about making videos feel free to email me at Nolan . Merrill @gmail.com - no spaces between my name and the period...just don’t want robots emailing me lol
Forgot to add that the EX gets 2 mpg better fuel economy according to “Fueleconomy.gov”. Not sure why. Guessing it has an “economy” drive mode that the other trims don’t?
I just bought the EX last week and my fuel economy is showing 19 mpg right now which is well below the 27 mpg. Not sure why. Maybe it's because it's so new and has only used a 1/4 of a tank of gas.
@@noles6327 thr cluster display isn't accurate. Mine shows either 30 or 40 mpg, but doing the calculations at the pump shows I been averaging 36 mpgs, 38 on one point
I agree & was thinking the same thing. With the EX you get slightly smaller 17" wheels as well, do you think it would ride a little softer? I am also comparing this to the Kia Niro EX. What are your thoughts?
I agree with you about the 18" wheels. I hate this trend of added them to so many cars. Would much rather have 16" or 17"s depending on the size of the car.
Just purchased this vehicle literally hours ago and you're right on the money about the lights. I was freaking out coming home from the dealership thinking they were not even working because it's so dim. I was prepared to drive with my high beams on just to see in front of me! Also, a great point on the lack of lumbar support. I felt this by the time I got home. Will likely need to invest in a lumbar support pillow for driving, especially on road trips. Great review!
I like the color, but I feel like this car only works in the GT trim, specifically when it comes to the headlights. I kinda feel like kia should've went with a different facia when it comes to the lower trims, even though it would drastically go against the norm of production.
@@PrimeAutotainment Yes, sir, I did. It is treating me very well so far. I'm still learning a lot of new things about it, but Toyota did a fantastic job with this redesign. It's one of the most comfortable cars I've ever owned.
Thanks for the good review! I wgo with the GT over this trim. I don't like the weak halogens or there placement. Plus, I will NEVER buy a CVT. I am amazed at the room inside such a small car. Going from a full sized truck to this might not agree with me but I do like the Soul.
You are very welcome sir! I want to thank you for doing the night videos showing the lighting. Many reviewers do not. This is very important to a vehicles safety and often over looked. Keep up the good work!
I just bought the EX and I was surprised at how well the power train works in this car. You don't even notice the CVT because it has simulated shifts. It feels like an automatic. KIA did a great job on that. My car feels very "zippy" for lack of a better term.
As an engineer wheel size does not dictate ride harshness at all. Shocks and springs create a smooth ride no matter the wheel size. Just an fyi. Wheel base doesn't change ride dynamics.
David Newman it’s the amount of rubber on the wheels as opposed to wheels with more rubber. Larger wheels have thinner profile tires and smaller wheels have larger profile tires and the actual tire makes the difference
Lol obviously suspension changes have been made since then. Shocks, springs, struts, whatever components are involved in the suspension make a big difference, of course. However...wheel/tire size makes a big difference too. I’ve driven several vehicles where the suspension is exactly the same, but it’s a different trim level with 1-3” differences in wheel size leading to much small or much larger profile tires and the outcome is significant in terms of ride quality. Both suspension and tires play a role. Even from tire brand to other tire brand there is a difference
