Review - Medal of Honor: Vanguard

I remember back in middle school, one of my friends said they liked this game and basically thought it was the best game ever or something to that effect. Yeah, there's a reason why I never talk about my friends that much...

huh, I use to love this game. probably because it was my first boots on the ground shooter and was given to me by my friend as a birthday gift. My first ever shooter was the original medal of honor and I absolutely loved that one. Its amazing how nostalgia could blind your judgement because you made a lot of valid points. Still, this game will have a soft spot in my heart.

It should be noted that Vanguard originally began life as a port of Airborne for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Wii, but it was scrapped and EA opted to make an original game for PS2 and Wii. This partially attributes the music and parachuting mechanics being shared between both games. Don’t think it’ll change your opinion, just some information about the game’s development.

hey fun fact, did you know that on an older wiiu firmware you could force the video output to either 4:3 or 16:9 for all game? later Nintendo changed that so only games that had native 16:9 support are able to be displayed that way.

Me and my dad enjoyed the heck out this, game and Medal of honour rising sun, these medal of honours, knowing all the problems it had, still had the best level design, ive ever seen from a WW2 shooter, these levels were so replayable, i wanted to use all of them as a playable multiplayer map, these game portrayed the feeling of war, better then any others

EA ended up reusing the same assets for MOH Heroes 1 on the PSP and Heroes 2 on PSP and Wii. Heroes 2 on the Wii at least fixes some of the control problems and has proper widescreen support.

I played it back in the day and blindly loved it. I played it recently on my ps2 and I couldn't make it through the 2nd level...

God, this game was terrible. Easily the worst FPS game I've ever played on the Wii, and perhaps one of the worst FPS games I have *EVER* played.

Not gonna lie in middle school before I had a 360 and just a ps2 this was one of my go to games. Along with golden eye rogue agent. Neither where good games, but back then it was kinda all I had. Desperate times. I kinda wanna play this again and just see how bad it really was.

A suggestion to make your future life easier: you don't actually need to place the sensor bar by your TV: it's not a sensor at all, it's just 4 infrared bulbs on a stick, so you can place it wherever will allow you to sit on the couch and play.

Metroid Prime 3 controls very well with the Wii remote, if you can believe it. The one and only FPS that does on that system.

We couldn't expect less from this game.A game that was relesed on the Wii and Ps2. Not on the ps3 and Xbox 360. Its just sad.

Definitely agree with the points you made in this video. Except the PS2 version isn't nearly as bad as you made it up to be. The framerate only drops when there are a bunch of enemies on screen but it's not going to be a problem unless you're one of those people whose eyes start bleeding whenever a game drops below 60 fps.

This is a good game because its a gap between the old and new medal of honor, you would see in Airborne they incorporate all these elements like aiming features, non liner gameplay and weapons customization into the game making it a good game

Did you play Medal of honor heroes 2? I thought it was much better than this. Okay that doesnt mean mucho, but i always thought it was an okay game.

I agree with you about this being one of the laziest FPS games of all time. I do give it a tiny bit of credit for being playable and not having any debilitating bugs, but that is about it. I think that I played this around 2012-13 before I had upgraded to the Xbox 360, so I feel like I played it before it felt too excessively archaic to me personally. That being said, I did have to chuckle throughout the game at how rushed and slapped together the whole thing felt.

Dude, like games on the ps2 can't run at 60fps all of the time, that's a thing on new consoles and pc, hell even cod modern warfare 2007 didn't run at 60fps in consoles, its was normal at that point, I get that shooters should run at 60fps mostly but that can only be achieved in pc like 99% of the time, even shooters in the ps4 drop frames when you throw smoke grenades lol but i get your point and it's valid

Like I said before, this is EA, and the kind of quality I expect to see from EA these days. The sad thing is that was not in their original vision, so like the old saying goes, "You live like the best, you die like the rest."

Lol this guy just totally shitted on this game, as a child I loved it and played it everyday but now that I’m older I understand it has its faults, that goes to show that everything seems amazing as a child

Sounds like this was your favorite game of all time lol Just got this on the Wii for 1$. Gave my PS4 and xbox 1 to my kids , now they got me gaming like a bum. Figured I'd give this and " boom blox " a shot... Still got the Mario games and zelda Twightlight princess , so this might be a really quick try out and then , give me my dollar back lol. It's pretty clear this was rushed out just to have a PS2/Wii version of Airborne essentially, minus any of the good things Airborne has. (Such as the Weapon Upgrade system or 3-weapon limit instead of only 2) or even European Assault which this game steals alot of it's stuff from. Pretty much the only good idea this game had was to have levels set after you've already landed (Since Airborne is kinda short since they can't follow-up on battles as every single battle has to start with a parachute jump) but everything else is either recycled, bad or both and it's only really the concept itself. And if you're going to recycle stuff from European Assault, they could have at least say, added the guns that were exclusive to that game's multiplayer or something (Like the MP-Exclusive MP34), rather than actually having less guns than it.

the PS2 version controls much better. its not nearly as bad as you make the game out to be, Its not great but its decent fun if you like the older MOH games. you can get for $3 nowadays and its well worth it to me.

I played this on emulator. I agree and disagree on some points. For me, this is a fine ww2 game for the time. I believe this one was competing with Call of Duty 3, i believe. The soundtrack being ripped off from the previous Medal of Honour games doesn't bother me at all because most medals of honour games have the same soundtrack, and it's a nice soundtrack that represent the series, i wish ww2 modern games have a similar soundtrack to this. The controllers are slightly annoying, but you'll get used to it. There is a slight lack of weapons variations, and it's weird that weapons with regular iron sights have better precision and accuracy than sniper rifles. I agree that this game looks quite outdated for the time if we compare it with other shooters that were released in 2006 and 2007. But to be fair, most shooters on the wii port have terrible graphics. Im also not bothered with the outdated graphics because it resembles other games like european assault or rising sun. I also agree that this game is linear and short, but let's be honest, every single FPS is linear and short, and COD is no different. However, this game was reasonably challenging, and the short campaign didn't bother me that much. I personally enjoyed that this MoH game tried to be similar with Cod 3 by having regenerated health and having other squad mates on your side. This is a decent game, not from an FPS genre point of view, but from the MoH series point of view. If you like ww2 and medal of honor , this is a good game, but if you dont care about the series then dont pick this up

Fun game but way too short

The controls feel janky as hell, it's worse than the motion controls of the first Red Steel...

The last 2 levels ruined the game for me. The last level was so frustrating, I ended up having to use a cheat code just to get through - and I still couldn't beat it because of the tanks and numerous grenades still chewing up your armor. It doesn't fucking help that the game doesn't give you any health meds and doesn't show your status on health. You literally have to ASSUME you're okay or not. It also pisses me off how atrocious the AI is in this game. The fucking German nazi's can easily hit you no problem, and yet your hits take like almost 10 shots. Your team mates aren't very helpful either. So yeah, fuck this game. Easily one of my least favorite Medal of Honor games.
