Very pleased to have actual rules for my RNZAF Skyhawks instead of them being "counts as Harriers".

The Bundeswehr gave up their presence in Shilo somewhere around 2000. It was mainly used by the armoured forces, I have seen many pictures of Leopard 1s and Marder IFVs. I don't know, if those were kept in storage in Canada or if they were shipped there by every unit. In Germany it wasn't really possible to do life fire exercised with armoured units and Canada (much like you down under) had plenty of space to do so. Those changes to some extend, after the reunification, since east Germany had much more free space and of course the downsizing of the army did its part. During my time in the army I have seen a few training grounds and the life fire for our artillery was very limited, even in the 2000s.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar 10 месяцев назад
I’m guessing having equipment stationed in-situ makes more sense than shipping units of tanks back and forth. But you never know!
@el-cee

@@FogofWar so I can just say how it worked for our NATO excercises in Norway. I was part of an artillery battalion (equipped with the fh155-1) and we had to ship our trucks up to Tromsö , where we had older outdated 105mm howitzers (and some other vehicles) in storage. So we packed all the booze we could fit in the trucks, because no one can afford drinking up there.

@@el-cee 45 - As a Canadian Army reservist I used to train in the same training areas as those guys when the GATES shut down for the winter training cycle. We even did one EX with a couple of Leo 1's back when. Anyhow, they cycled about 1/3 of the kit back to the Bundesrepublik every year for refurbishment and upgrading, etc. Over time they cycled in Leo 2s, although I can;t recall if they were the latest and greatest or older models. I think they were pretty much state of the art at the time. It was always quite a treat to drive past the German vehicle compound for us kit starved Canadian Army Reservists ! My favourite experience was siting in the engine well of a leo 2 that had it pulled for some reason thinking it'd make a great hot tub... They cycled something like 4 or 5 kampfgruppes through every summer at the high point of operations. A Panzer battalion and a panzer grenadiere battalion would make up each rotation, and each roto was 3 weeks. Basic skills week 1, more advanced, then full battle group ops I understand. I atteneded at least one Open House type weekend where they took people for rides in the Marders or Leos, also quite a treat for some locals who had never seen a tank before.

Great review as Always Harry… I don’t have any armies in this book Yet… but I already have some wants out of it… the Red Dawn Canadian aspect, The French forces are appealing for the European Theatre, and the Australian forces with the Skyhawks are very tempting… I feel in love with the Skyhawk in my Teens when I saw it in the first TOP GUN movie… definitely need to get some of those… hopefully Battlefront incorporated a plastic model kit for it … I’m not looking forward to resin aircraft… I’m really looking forward to the redo of Oil Wars… I have wanted that book since I first saw it… but I keep hearing that the redo with the upgrades is coming soon… I would like to see an expansion to the Pacific Theater… with possibly a re ignition of the Korean War

I hoped for the AMX-30 Brenus. Just for the look. But I think it doesn't add much additional punch for the french. I also guess making a Bernus plastic (upgrade?) kit was not as easy as it was with the T-72 or T-64. Anyway, the Leclerc is a great new addition. My (self made) multi-national Nordic Joint Fast Respond Brigade (NJFRB) will get a pln as support.
@ijdundas
@ijdundas 10 месяцев назад
I had a similar hope for the Canadian Leopard C2 (upgraded Leopard 1s) rather than the Leopard 2, but like the Brenus, this wouldn't add much and the Canadians would remain undergunned.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar 6 месяцев назад
Trekan - What would it take to add the Brenus upgrade to the existing AMX-30 kit? It would be definitely a new turret with the ERA. There could be add-on ERA blocks for the hull. Would it need a new gun with thermal sleeves? There's the remote weapon station. Seems like it might be doable as an upgrade kit. But the Leclerc gives the French a big boost.

Could you go over the fact that the unit cards have included allies in them? ie the Belgium unit cards has both the west German cards and British cards. Could you show the catalogue unit card pack for Canada, Dutch and ANZAC? Could you confirm if the Canadian unit card pack comes with the allied cards?

So what jackanory have BF come up with for Belgian Leo 1 BE having uparmoured turrets ,which they never got ? Have a look at the Leo 1A5 BE , which they are selling to an eastern European country now .
@FogofWar
@FogofWar 8 месяцев назад
I think BF just went with the closest turret they had. Belgium’s tanks were upgraded to the Leopard 1A5 standard for fire control and sights, just not the armour package. But the plastic kit doesn’t have an unarmoured option for the cast turret, so you can’t build it that way from the box without scratch building.

Kia ora Harry, I'm afraid I have to rate this video as a conditional fail because you missed the very important changes to French recon completely. Even their new VBL vehicle. It seems almost as if that never happened other than a fleeting glimpse at circa 15m of the catalog pages. It is great to have all the other details of course and that might allow a limited pass, but you have seriously failed me with the lack of the French recon data. At least that might have had similar treatment to the changes to Aussie recon which we like a lot of course. Please update the French recon ASAP in a supplement or re-cut of this video.
@FogofWar
@FogofWar 10 месяцев назад
Hi Sofia. It appears I did miss the VBL for the French. That is entirely my bad. The forces overview in this was only meant to be an overview. I have more detailed look at the forces coming up in later videos. Now I see the VBL and the recon formations, I’ll be sure to cover them in detail when I talk French for Wave 3.
