Yea I’ve come to know and love the HA1125 as it’s so forgiving but there will be special occasions this wing will shine ✨ -Those angles for onshore winds and also for zig zag ! -We have some points that throw A frames that travel out wider and wider and they have these pockets that are super fast and it will be fun to use this to keep up and stay on them maxing out - It’s great to study and learn to apply the different techniques people developed from there styles in turning … each one gives such a different experience ! Your recent super fast exit into a maxing turn in the hood river , was that on one of these ?!
Yeah these new foils open a whole different approach and line you can take out there. Also at different speeds to start to notice and can harness different bits of energy out there, like refractions or rebounds that before just felt like messy wedges. Its wild! Unfortunatly not, that was a just a prototype wing I was trying but not one of the DWP foils.
How would you compare it to the MA lineup? is the DW stuff faster with lower stall speeds? or does the MA have a lower stall speed? Also could you please do a video explaining tail wings? As well as what tails suit larger and smaller front wings and which tails suit different line ups? Nuts session :)
Oh that's a great idea regarding the tails!! I know it would have helped me!! Regarding the comparison to the MAs, comparatively for their size I would say the DWP foils have a lower stall speed. But these foils are built for totally different things! The MAs are built for wining and wave riding in mind. They turn amazing and can handle a lot of speed. But they do have a high stall speed and arent very forgiving to pump. These DWP foils have a wide wing span and very high aspect ratio which makes them ultra efficient for downwinding and riding open ocean swells, but that wide span makes them tricky to turn and not as easy as the MAs. I generally follow that if I am winging or towing in waves I ride the MAs, if I am prone foiling I ride a HA, and now if I am downwinding I ride the DWP (but I could still ride a HA for this I just like going fast)
I don’t downwind. But I like seeing the technology and the guys that do. I’m also curious how these surf? I can’t imagine they’re a good idea. But I know it’s probably possible. I just don’t personally know anyone that downwinds and don’t know how to get into it. It looks epic!
Mateo Ell and Adam Bennett’s both actually liked the 685 in small surf. Great pump and low end, but can still turn fairly well. I haven’t tried it though so can’t recommend it, but you never know… Yeah downwinding isn’t too tricky to learn these days, the gear has gotten so much better. You really need to just learn to SUPER foil in the surf, then work on your balance by spending some time in the bumps. And once you can paddle comfortably in the bumps it’s just about learning the timing of what bumps to paddle for and you’re up…. Easy right? 🤔🤪
Hi mate. I use the Dart 140 for everything basically. Towing, downwinding, prone and winging. I think the smaller 685 would be okay on the standard mast, maybe the 755 as well. But The 930 would be a handful to turn and control easily. Especially if you are in fairly crossed up conditions. Hope that helps!
