I review the features and benefits of the car window screens I have used for several years to keep biting bugs out of my car while camping in my SUV.

I own a 2002 Yukon XL barn door back end that I am working on getting set up for camping. I put 300 W of solar on unistrut on the roof. Plugged into a renogy controller as well as a 200 AH LiFePo 12 battery and a renogy 1000W pure sinewave inverter. I also cut a hole in my back rook and installed a Max air fan. I have a dc to dc charger that I have to hook up from the 130 am alternator in my truck. I have camped at my friends house to see what I am missing so it is still a work in progress. I enjoy all of the videos like yours as they give me ideas and inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey.

I didn't know they existed. I made some for the rear windows of my 2005 Tahoe, using strip magnets hot glue and house screen. Worked ok,but I bought slip over covers,a couple of years later.

Well done on making some! What do you think about the slipovers?

@@SuburbanCamping They work OK, however fitted magnetic screens, for specific vehicles , and windows would be better. I plan on making a newer version for my Tahoe windows front and rear, with cloth hemmed in magnets sized specifically for my vehicle.

Hello from Texas! Just found your website and channel the other day, I'm wanting to do this in my 04 burb and your channel is perfect for me! I would really enjoy seeing your video on minimalist suv camping. I'd also be interested to see a video about food/cooking while camping.

That method of window screen with round magnets every few inches has a fatal flaw. Spiders will squeeze between the magnets and go right under your screen. So imagine opening up your Tahoe and about to crawl into bed when you find half a dozen giant spiders in your bedroom (and only manage to catch 5 of them... ). Ask me how I know. Instead find or make screens that utilize continuous flat magnets. I cut screen to the correct size and then laid out a long magnet strip roll. I then ran hot glue down the screen and sandwiched another magnet strip back on top of the screen and the first magnet. That secures the screen and gives the magnet more holding power. I can take them off and roll them up and store them in each door's cubby. Easy on, easy off, no effing spiders inside. 2000 Tahoe Z71 obs that made a 17,000 mile trip around the US finding every fishing hole I could.

I would love to see your design! I have not had any issues with spiders, but agree there is space for them to sneak through. I am very impressed by your 17,000 mile trip!

I contemplated buying those premade screens but am opting to make my own for much less money. I did find a sunroof screen at a decent price, though. I feel a definite decrease in wind flow with the mesh screens, but that's the price you pay for keeping out bugs. I have enough fans to compensate.

Learned something the hard way. Had a P0430 code and one for evap on my 05 Tahoe. Turned out to be a dead battery this summer and a replacement without doing a driving reprogram of the computer. There was Nothing wrong with my cats.

Do these scratch or mar the finish on your vehicle?
@SuburbanCamping
@SuburbanCamping 6 месяцев назад
No, I have not had any issues with that. I believe the fabric over the magnets protects from scratches. Keep in mind, my Suburban is 24 years old, so I don't worry to much about it's appearance! 😀
