Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at this etrailer 1-1/4" to 2" receiver-adapter with a 6-1/2" extension. This adapter is going to give you the ability to easily transform your 1-1/4" receiver to a 2" receiver and give you a 6-1/2" extension. This is gonna let you use your 2" hitch accessories such as your bike racks and cargo carriers, and that 6-1/2" extended length is going to allow your hitch mounted accessory to clear your bumper. Now, this adapter does not include the 1/2" pin and clip to secure it to your 1-1/4" hitch.
So that would be a separate purchase. We do have those options available here at etrailer.com. You would also need to provide the 5/8" pin and clip to secure your accessories. So again, if you do not have those compatible hitch-pin and clips, our, we, we do have those options available on our website. This is a sturdy steel construction with a matte black powder coat finish over a protective base coat.
So it is gonna give the same. It is the same finish that we use on our etrailer hitches to give you that superior rust resistance. If you already have one of our etrailer hitches on the back of your vehicle, this will be a perfect match. The maximum tongue weight is 350 pounds and it's important to note that when you use this extender it will reduce your hitches weight capacity by 50%. Now this is not to be used for towing.
It's just for your 2" accessories. And let me give you some overall measurements. The overall length, we are going to be sitting right at 10-1/2". And then the distance between our hitch-pin holes center to center. Let me line that up here for you a little bit better.
We're gonna be sitting right at looks like 6-1/2" center to center. And then measuring the, looking at the 2" side and measuring from the center of that 5/8" hitch-pin hole. We are sitting right at, line that out better for you. We're sitting right at 2" from the center of that 5/8" hitch-pin hole to the end of that 2" receiver end and then from the center of our 1/2" hitch-pin hole to the end of the end that's gonna be going in your 1-1/4", we're sitting again at 2". Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

Just wondering... you say you can't tow with it? I've seen a model from Reese Towpower that they say can be used to tow at 50% of the receiver limit. It's stated on the label. I'm just hauling a light Harbor Freight trailer with my Ford Fusion. Never loading more than 450 lbs (lawn tractor), but usually just some lumber or trash, less than 150 lbs or so. The hitch is rated at 2000 lbs, so 50% is 1000 with a 100 lb tongue weight. 1000 lbs is the limit for my car, anyway. Max distance would be about 45 miles round-trip, no interstates. I would like to use just a ball mount for the 1 1/4" receiver, but for the trailer I'm using, I'd need a 9 inch rise. The highest rise I can find for the smaller receiver is 5 1/8". I don't really have much choice but to get the adapter from Reese unless you know where I can get a higher rise mount or some other configuration. I've been searching for days.

None of the 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapters we offer are rated for towing purposes. You'll be better off using a 1-1/4 inch ball mount that's compatible with your hitch would be your best bet. www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Adapters/etrailer/e43YR.html

@@etrailer I really want to use the proper one for my hitch, but I'm still looking for one with a 8"-9" rise. I'm starting to think I'll have to have custom one made.

I have a 1 1/4” hitch with a tongue weight of 300lbs. I want to use this adapter to fit a 39lb Rockymounts Monorail 2” hitch bike rack that allows for two 60lb e-bikes. My bikes weigh 58lbs and 53lbs. This adapter would reduce my tongue weight to 150lbs. Can I still use this adapter safely with my setup? Thanks e-trailer crew 😊

That's going to put you right at your 150 lb capacity. Because adding the extender will allow for some bounce, we'd strongly urge you to use a security strap like # 18050. The hook would fit into the seam between the top of the rear hatch/trunk and the rest of the vehicle and would greatly reduce any bouncing that could stress the hitch. Also, if the bike weights you mention include the weight of the batteries, we'd urge you to remove the batteries before carrying the bikes on the rack. Hope that helps! www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/CURT/18050.html

Can you test this adapter on a Curt hitch? I’m looking for a replacement because the cheap one I bought at harbor freight wobbles too much.

This hitch adapter will work great on any 1 1/4" hitch receiver, including a Curt hitch! If you have rattling going on, you can pair this adapter with an anti-rattle device to take the play out of it. Check out the anti-rattle devices we have for 1 1/4" hitches in the following link. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Hitch_Anti~Rattle-pc-Fits_1~1%7C4_Inch_Hitch.aspx www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Adapters/etrailer/e43YR.html

Reduces wieght capacity by 50% that is a lot.

It does. It is. Adding the adapter increases the distance between the receiver and the hitch mounted accessory, which increases the leverage placed on the hitch. Therefore, the hitch tongue weight capacity is reduced. In this case, the reduction is 50%. Your best option to maximize the capacity of your hitch is to use an accessory that's designed for your 1-1/4 inch hitch, rather than using an adapter. Plus, adding an adapter causes more bounce, which is undesirable. Hope that helps! www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Adapters/etrailer/e43YR.html

So it's basically useless for anything over 175 pounds.@@etrailer

If the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 350 lbs, then using the adapter will indeed limit you to 175 lbs.

So I would I be able to pull my trailer with this adapter? With a atv in it

The # e43YR adapter is meant for hitch mounted accessories, but NOT for towing. None of the adapters we offer of this type is usable for towing. Your best bet would be to get a ball mount for a 1-1/4 inch receiver that places your trailer ball at the proper height so the trailer tows level. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Hitch_Ball_Mount-hs-Fits_1~1%7C4_Inch_Hitch.aspx

The # e43YR adapter is compatible with Class I hitches, so it will work just fine with your Draw-Tite hitch. www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Adapters/etrailer/e43YR.html

Is there a reason it cannot be used for towing?
@etrailer
@etrailer Год назад
The unit itself is not designed to handle the stress of towing. It is only rated for accessories. With the type of receiver you have, 1-1/4 inch, you will not have a large towing capacity to begin with and trying to add a 2 inch ball mount will only overload the hitch and cause damage. www.etrailer.com/article-categories.aspx?productgroup=Trailer-Hitch
