Review of my custom Raceseng alcantara Stratose shift knob for my 2019 MX5 Miata ND2(ND)
In todays video I will be unboxing and giving my review of Raceseng Stratose shitft knob in alcantara with a custom color.
As my 30th Anniversary MX5/Miata contains a lot of orange and alcantara I thought that the Stratose will be a great upgrader to the interior not only from my visual aspect but also from a tactile feel and with that an enhanced driving experience.

Thank you! It did turn out real great! Difficult to capture the color on video but it is a very very close match from a color perspective

For those who are thinking of buying this knob, don't waste your money for the retainer. Not to mention that the boot sits perfectly without any gaps but the retainer doesn't even fit inside the leather in the first place because of the thick piece of leather on the top. Other than that, you should definitely get one of these.

thanks for the input, I have mentioned in some comments below. The boot is sitting nicely without anything in place at least on mine so I have not bothered about doing anything

You influenced me to buy one! I will get my Stratose - Perforated Leather Red Translucend on Thursday. I hope it will match the Soul Red Crystal of my car paint.

Glad I could give some input, I am sure you will like it a lot. The alcantara version is great! Yeah paint matching can be a bit difficult, specially on the ND/ND2 as the exterior color is so present in the cabin. Would love to hear what you think of it

@@Themazcorner I got it today! It is almost a perfect color match with the Soul Red crystal paint. The size and the feel of the knob in your hand is great... actually amazing every time you shift gears! You forgot how much you spent for the knob just after one single ride! I don't regret this purchase.

@@Dan-xj9vd Sounds like you like it Dan :). Great to hear buddy! Now that I have been driving a couple of days with mine I wonder how a stratose without the flat top would be like. Thinking if it would have been similar in shape to the OEM one

Very nice. I wonder why Raceseng doesn’t just cut the threads another ~1/4” deeper so it screws down further. Someone mentioned installing a rubber garden hose gasket to fill the gap.

I have to be honest, the boot is sitting without any gaps and have done so since the install. There are couple of mm between the boot and knob so I have not bothered about doing anything with it. But yes there are some solutions to it. But for me e.g. going with a garden hose it would be a very thin strip that would be needed

Looks great! I'm considering getting one for my MX5 as well, let us know what solution you find for the gap between the shift boot and knob

Cut a piece of foam to fill out the inside of the boot, punch a hole, slide it on. The boot will snug up to the bottom of the knob and remain there.

Did you ever fix that boot sag? What product would I look for and how would I know what size of said product to get to get rid or hide that boot sag? Also, that knob matches the color of your car perfectly!

The boot has actually stayed upright since day one and it has not bothered me at all to be honest. It sure does match the car nicely

Should be expecting my stratose in the mail within the next few weeks. I was wondering how the alcantara matches with the recaros. Is the alcantara much darker than the alcantara found on the seats?

I wouldn't say it is 100 match but nothing that I have ever thought of to be honest. I guess also it is different for different batches both the seats and the material on the knob. It will not be noticeable as such in my opinion

Haha yes, unfortunately it got very expensive for me. Have to see it from the positive side which is that Raceseng do not offer custom colors any more...

Really sorry for the late reply! For the amount of driving I have done it has held up really well. But I don't drive that much to be honest. But cleaning it regularly with appropriate technique it should last for a very long time

@@Themazcorner thanks it’s been on my list for a year. Just worried for a daily driver it’d be wore out in a year. But I detail often and will get the right brush for it

correct didn't opt for it from the get go and having it sent out would get expensive. I have found that the boot stays up nicely by itself. Might tinker with something during the winter as a mod to keep it up

@@Themazcorner yeah update I did get the ring.. but cannot get shifter to work with it.. Not enough room under shift knob to get it to screw all the way down and couldn't get the top #s to line up with it

@@Themazcorner I've ask to Raceseng for compatibility of a shift boot collar on a stratose same to you, answer : Due to the design of the Miatas shifter arm, they are not compatible.
