I purchased the 12v 55 lbs of thrust and am impressed beyond belief thus far with this product. I attached it to a fish pontoon and find no need for the strap but could see a use on a bass boat or possible the highway when transporting it.. the only negative

I got a little over 2 Years out of my first Haswing Cayman before the remote steering seized up. I disassembled it so as to access the servo motor and the gear box and found that both shaft bearings were fouled with grit and would not turn. I took the top off and cut the main (8 gauge) wire so that I could slide the entire control box up and off of the shaft. I then popped the entire shaft bearing assembly out of its seat, cleaned and lubricated both bearings. They spun freely and after a little extra grease on the bearings and seals, I reassembled everything, used a heat shrink connector on the main power wire and it works fine again. I am a stickler for maintenance so its not like I neglected it but spraying Super Slick Slick Stuff or WD-40 in the top and bottom of the shaft wasn't enough apparently so I now I'll just add disassembling and greasing the shaft bearings to my routine maintenance. I've had friends have the same issues with the more expensive brands so for the money I really like the Cayman.

i have the 24v 80# model and like greauxpete read the directions locking collar must be moved down too base to prevent it from releasing . it will go nowhere , i put a piece of elec tape to mark my depth on shaft . by far this TM is worth it ive had all the other brands on my stratos and honestly there junk and no warranty at all. foot pedal takes some time to get use too but the remote and length of foot pedal wire you can use it all around my 21" 201 pro elite . best of all no knee fatigue after a day of fishing. and its a large prop like my omc which was the best tm ever. lasted 28 yrs, still works just need some foot pedal parts lost speed 2 in rotary switch . as far as losing remote link i have yet to experience that at all . so far 5 stars from me for a 1/3 the price . my friend bought a new 80# foot control for $1200 name brand and out of maybe 10 times on the water it has died twice at $300 a pop to fix it. remeber there all made in china even my 28 yr old omc so let the whinners cry to me about no warranty unlike haswing which has one and ive yet to need it. the mount is really for a pontoon i assume but hacking up my old motor guide mount i made a slide mount to slide it back so its out of the way when loading on those steep ramps. next project wire in a gps to head unit and use the helmsman app . paid $500 on amazon wish i bought 2.

Your supposed to slide the collar down when underway to keep the motor from bouncing out. With the collar slid to the base it can't go anywhere.

+greauxpete Your right. By its design it would pretty much lock if in place. Never thought of that nor did I pay any attention to the instructions, thank you!

How have you been liking this unit to date? is it holding up? Have you had to deal with support at all? if so how has support been?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
So far it's been a good unit. I haven't had to call for support so I have no idea if support is any good. I'm pretty happy with the unit.

That sucks! I don't even plug my foot pedal in anymore, been using nothing but the remote. Wonder if maybe you got a defective one?

1D10CRACY do you think it could be converted for a kayak? I need the ability to turn but I don't need the bow mount just need the shaft and the steering box

Most trolling motors you use heel/toe and has a button on the toe area to make trolling motor work. Does the heel work by placing your heel on that circle and hitting left or right? Or do i have to turn it on? How does the pedal function? if you just press left or right it just works?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 3 года назад
The part where your heel sits is just a swivel place for your foot. The center button powers it on and off. The far outside buttons turn it left and right. The two inward buttons are for speed. Though I had gotten use to it, I still prefer the traditional heel/toe steering. This past season I didn't even being the foot pedal with me, I just used the wireless lanyard.

I do, and I like it. It takes a bit to get use to the steering, but as for quality, it's held up really well!

Thanks for the video. A Haswing Cayman 55 came on a used boat I purchased and I didn't get any documentation. Mine will not lock in place after I deploy it in the water. That is, the small metal chrome hooks don't latch over the metal rod/dowel. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or a part is broken. Do you know? Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thanks.
@aquamerle
@aquamerle 6 лет назад
I'd just disassemble it and clean and lubricate the mechanism. The two access doors on each side allow for some access. You can also take all of the screws out of the bottom. Remove all of the plastic covers surrounding the entire deployment mechanism so as to get at all of the moving parts. It isn't very complicated.

Sorry one more question. I have 16’ center console and use my boat in the bay so you get a mixed bag. Calm days, rough days, windy days and tides. How is the power of the 55lbs. I am thinking of getting the gps version of this.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
That's a tough question not knowing how your boat handles. Mine is a 16.5' shallow V haul, however it's pretty heavy with an I/O Ford 302. The 55lbs moves it ok, but I would bet it would struggle in heavy winds. I'm a good weather fisherman for the most part. If you do purchase the GPS version, let us know how you like it! I may have to upgrade!

3 years have passed since the video, do you have any opinion or consideration of working to add? I'm looking for opinions to evaluate the purchasing...

Well, it is still working and I've had no issues so far. I don't use the foot pedal at all anymore, I use the remote. If I needed another one, I'd probably go with the same brand but would look at the GPS model.

I have the 55lbs haswing. I was wondering if anything lights up on the remote while charging it. Thanks
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
Nothing on the remote lights up while charging, however the charge cord has a red / green indicator on it. Red when charging, green when charged. I always charge mine all the way before putting the controller in storage and I also store mine in the house where it doesn't freeze.

will it work on a pontoon boat /18ft
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 6 лет назад
My parents had a simular size pontoon boat and tried to use a 60ft/lb trolling motor. It worked, but was very sluggish. I would be worried this one wouldn't be big enough.
