No, I didn't because I didn't want it to drown out my voice, I think the manufacturer recommends the car be running so you do not discharge your battery to a state that you can't restart the car. The compressor pulls more current than the average portable compressor which is also why you connect directly to the battery instead of plugging it in the 12v outlet. You are right that you would get a couple more volts if the car was running.

@@737mechanic The reason I asked is because on Amazon I see several reviews from people who say they used the compressor just a couple of times and then the fuse started blowing when they use it. Other people have better experiences. I wondered if possibly the people with the bad experiences are using the compressor without the engine running in many cases, maybe even with older batteries, and running the compressor on low voltage, which may be damaging the motors. I ordered the 88P a couple of days ago, and I hope it wasn't a mistake. I almost wish I had spent another hundred dollars and got the 300P instead. Anyway for whatever reason, nobody has the 88P in stock at the present time, Amazon, Tire Rack, Home Depot, Walmart all expect to have them back in stock in the next few days. I ordered one from Tire Rack.

@@FlatFifties So far I love the compressor, I am sure the compressor will be fine whether it was running on 12v or 14v. Time will tell.

@@FlatFifties the auto has to be running to use the pump it will work easier , so this test is not good at all

​@@737mechanic VIAIR has excellent customer service, I sent them a question via their web site and got answer within 30 minutes !!! The air hose ID is 1/4" and the OD is 3/8"
