The welded sleeves that you hooked the check chains to are designed to receive hay spears for moving round bales. The bushings are to take up slack that may be present on the thru holes at the link points for the lift arms and the top link. If the holes are oversized for Cat 2, the bushings allow a Cat 1 pin to fit properly in an oversized cat 2 hole.

The ball on the top that came with the new hitch is for moving gooseneck trailers.
