My friend has been in the hospital for ED. They watch you eat. If you don't eat all of your food in a certain amount of time you get pills that has all the calories of the food. Emma not eating would just not happen. But I loved that show!😂
I was kind of turned off by the character with an ed bc it really bothered me that she had bright skin and shiny hair and looked so healthy. Im sick of ppl with eds being portrayed as cute and quirky. ESPECIALLY when this character is hospitalized for an ed. ppl hospitalized for an ed don't look like she does at ALL. They look sick and tired and not healthy. of course it's tv so to a point they have to make everyone "pretty", but still, it just causes ppl to not take eds as a serious illness
Ruby M it's so annoying when I was hospitalised for and ed I looked terrible and so sick also if Emma was not eating at all (or barely) like it shows she would be tube fed like I was it's so annoying
the american version is sooo far fetched, it doesn't even come close to the original catalan version (Polseres Vermelles) Also, in the original show the kid in a comma doesn't just hear everything, he does have kind of a hallucination (in his mind he's always in the public pool where he had the accident that brought him to that situation. Sometimes he just hears people talking to him in the pool, sometimes they're there with him)
My son has cancer and we’ve spent a total of 6yrs inpatient. UNC allows decorating and visiting is fine as long as doors are open. BUT NOT with CF kids. I loved this show!
As someone who's been in and out of hospitals I appreciate the show as well. ^_^ I just finished episode 2 and it was very touching, Leo and Dash had an intimate moment and I almost was in tears. I suggest you watch it, it's a good second episode. (^_^)
Cool. I see you redid your channel, and I'm gonna watch all of the vids. I posed a question on a video, I don't know if you deleted the video, but I had a question about the form of treatments you take. I have never heard of that solution, I have asthma and was intrigued, I'd never heard of it and appreciate if you explained that, if it's not too much ^﹏^
I can't speak from that type of hospital but when I go in and put of a mental hospital (or whatever you want to call it) the nurse thing is hilariously accurate
I love how you took the words right out of my mouth I have spent countless days in hospitals and I love how you explain it is not hell in a hospital because it isn't always yes you don't usually feel good when you are in the hospital but it is the small times that matter and makes us happy I remember when I was way younger and someone brought me a teddy bear that just made my day and for that small moment I could not think about how much pain I was in or if I felt like I was going to puke my guts up. thank you for making this clear to the world its nice to spread the word.
I know and agree on a lot that u say! I've never lived in the hospital. I stayed over night once because of surgery. I was in the children's hospital. The one I was at is connected to the adult one. And it was really decorated in the children's one. But recently I was in the adult one in an outpatient unit and there was parts decorated like the classroom and the 'break room' and basically what Charlie said in the beginning about becoming friends with people you'd never hang out with at school. I became friends with a goth emo type boy and preppy kids and the populars. I'm more the loner who really didn't fit in. And we were and are going through the same thing and we relate to each other. I'm out now and try to get through freshman year.
Well of course the show didn't represent the reality of hospital life because it would have been a bit boring if the producers respected the rules of being inpatient, anyways you are so cute and I really enjoy watching these reviews
Ophidian FYI: She has a new channel called Claire Wineland. This channel (The Clarity Project) has been highjacked by her former publishing company. She can no longer post here as she has no longer has access to this channel. She explains in a video on her new channel. ❤️
Hi, I don't know if you were aware of, but this is originaly an Spanish show produced in Barcelona. It has actually another season and I won't give spoilers because is annoying, but if they follow the plot as I think it will be is not as happy flower as the trailer shows. I hope that in America the show will be a success as it was here. We enjoyed it very much and learnt from it.
Hi Claire .. I have been following your progress over the last few years .. I do not reveal my identity for reasons of security and self protection, but suffice it to say that I have lost several friends to CF and I follow many blogs and inputs to RU-vid from CFers. You are an inspiration to all .. there are many out there who dwell on the downside, but you never do !! Power to you!! I notice that lots of others show themselves doing breathing treatments etc .. your call, but if you want to .. do that too!! I love your attitude and your positiveness! I send you all my good wishes for the future .. be strong as I know you will!
I agree with everything you had to say about the show. The one thing that bothered me the most about the show was the whole "red" bands. Because I don't know about you but, the hospital I grew up and I know most hospitals in SoCal (which is where the show takes place) the "red" bands/bracelets are usually use for allergy info. lol. IDK, It's just a silly/weird thing that bother me about the whole show, other then that I look forward to see more episodes of the show.
Yeah you are so right! And just the fact that he is giving out bands that have all his info as a patient to other children should totally be illegal...not to mention confusing as hell for the nurses.
Hi, I really love the series (even with all of the flaws haha), but being able to hear from someone who has experienced multiple things that the media does falsely portray is really refreshing. Especially because younger generations watching the show who don't have diseases or illnesses won't know what reality in a hospital is like. It's just nice to see someone who is so comfortable in their own skin talk about these things. Also I'm almost positive you are Claire in the season finale, and if so congratulations!
Your reviews are spot on insightful and hilarious, your videos are stellar, and I think you would be an incredible addition to the Red Band Society cast; your comic timing is inspirational and your presence on film is that of a pro. Your channel rocks!
Nice review. I would totally have to agree with you on practically everything you mentioned. Although I have been lucky enough to have never been in hospital as a kid, I did frequently volunteer in pediatric wards, and just to get permission to go from room A to B was like I needed doctor, nurse, patient, parent approval. The same goes for all the decor in the rooms. The rooms are much more colorful and alive looking than adult rooms, but if a doc/nurse has to quickly get in with say a crash cart or administer any type of meds, they need room to move, so decorative space is very limited. It was more decorated in common spaces. The one thing I did love that they stressed and you mentioned was that these are just kids at the end of the day. Unless the kids wanted to, we never really talked about illness or hospitals or woe is me. We just focused with them on doing kids things. Normal kid things, because they are well aware where they are and what's happening to them, and they didn't need or want to be reminded every second. I'm really looking forward to see how the story develops.
I've just started watching this because of you lol. But as someone who has had an eating disorder and I have myself been in a private hospital and know those who have been on NHS ED / mental health wards I don't really get why Emma is on a general ward. In the UK there are specialist eating disorder wards because you basically need 24 hour supervision to make sure you don't over exercise or purge or whatever else. I feel the way her character is used to portray an eating disorder is going to annoy me.
There are in the U.S. As well. I didn't understand that either, and I honestly wish they just hadn't included her. It doesn't make sense for the story. There is certainly a huge difference between these kids with terminal illnesses and an eating disorder. Now, I'm not going to say that an eating disorder isn't a "real" illness, I'm perfectly aware it is, but it isn't treated the same as a physical illness.
This show is a remake of a Catalan show called Polseres Vermelles, and in the original show, the representation of ED is waay more realistic. She is in the general ward for a while, outpatient for a while when she gets better and in the mental health ward when she relapses. Also, her hair and skin are not as shiny when she's not ok
Ever since I saw you on Dr. Oz, I was wanting your opinion on Red Band Society because I realized you had basically said what they said in the show. The quote, "When you're in hospital, life doesn't stop. It starts." So I'm really glad you love the show too. I've been hooked. Plus if you ever miss an episode, they put it on hulu.
I haven't watched rbs but I watched the original tv series in Catalan tv. I've only seen the trailer but I feel that the us version is much more unrealistic with the decoration, the clothing... also Leo is nothing next to Lleó, sorry. On the other hand, I like that there's 2 girls in the group, since in the original series there's only one (Emma) and her alias is 'the girl'. That was really sexist.
Great review Claire. Now I'm going to have to watch every episode so I know what you're referring to here. Can't wait. I'm going to get started right now!
I don't know if you would be interested but I also have a review of this pilot, it's real long and I don't hit all the points you hit because I haven't really experienced staying in a hospital but it would be pretty cool if you would would watch it cuz..yeah. Btw lov your channel and just your personality in general.
Im pretty sure it is supposed to be like a really modern LA long term residentual hospital and all hospitals have different rules so you might be wrong
clair you're such an inspiration and you're so beautiful and you seem so kind and I really would like to get the chance to meet you but I don't know if I would be able to
This show was inspired by Polseres Vermelles, a show made in Catalonia, a region of Spain, and just by her reviews I can tell that the original show was way better. You can find it in Catalan and in Spanish online, and maybe with english subtitles. i highly recommend it, although there was no caharcter with CF, just two kids with cancer, a girl with an ED, a kid in a coma, a guy with heart problems and another one who seemed to have some sort of autism and was recovering from an accident
OMG! We have the exact same series in Italy with the same caracters! And there's also a spanish version of it because it was originally a spanish book.
That is true. But i realy like how their bond is being portrayed. But they did look a little too healthy for people with those diseases. Btw your voice sounds like miley cirus in her hannah montana years, its realy cool.
Thanks for giving insight! I watch the show because I love characters and the bright, light-hearted vibes. Obviously not real-life though. And I see your collection of books; did you read City of Heavenly Fire yet?
i live in the hospital as well. here in michigan at children's (im 22. haha and still can go to children's) we can go into other kids rooms and hang out.
She looks exactly like the actress Maggie Grace. More specifically "Faith", the character she played on Californication with the boho style, but she has the deeper raspy voice just like Miley Cyrus.
I think the biggest "technical" mistake in this show is the whole thing about Charlie being in coma. wtf he's in coma but on an absolutely normal/general ward without respiratory assistance, nutrition, monitors, etc... nope nope nope all this is wrong. and yeah the lack of sense with Dash having CF but not having treatment therapy masks etc at all Sure the whole point of the show wasn't to be 100% medical, but still, as you said, it gives a false idea of life in hospital, it makes it look too fun
Claire, thank you for a very poignant review right from the horses mouth. I am going to miss all the actors and stories which took me back to those days when I bonded with other cancer patients. As I await yet another cancer surgery. I am so thankful there are three more hours of a show that really portrays the good you find in a hospital environment experience. It's not all bad. It's a journey. And aren't we all on a journey called life.
You're very pretty and very entertaining. Perhaps you could land a guest spot on the show and then while on set, advise the writers on what they should be doing.
Hey I don't know if this is weird. But you said you were in a coma (I'm sorry I don't know your name.) and idk I wanted to know what that's like? My friend was in a coma for the last month of her life and I just want to know what that was like for her
When I was a teenage I was in the hospital weeks to months at a time I had nite just like miss jackson there were like 5 of us we ran our hospital just like they did I would have my friends come pick me we would all meet at a spot in the hospital we had a pool with a park in the middle of our hospital and we would meet there all the time we would go sneak in each other's room all the time sometime with our cloths on if we didn't plan on staying for more then a few min but if we wanted to to chill and watch movies together we would all put on our gowns and mask and gloves so we didn't her rah other sick to bad there are only three of is now and it was weird cause we would always seem to get sick around he same time and be in the hospital at the same time. We decorated out room all the time our nurses didn't mind at all, I'm sorry of a lot of you didn't get that. But I agree with how they are doing the show I can relate about 100% with it. I lived it!
Is it true that people with CF aren't supposed to be around each other at all, even outside of the hospital, because of giving each other bacteria or something?
I don't know why your making a fuss out of this.. It's just a movie like anyother your all speaking like there really is superman and other unrealistic stuffs in movies.... People suffer we get it but at least if you stay positive and concetrate on the brighter side you'll be uplifted by the movie it's really encouraging and shows that love is always there no matter what your into.... There will always be people who will standout for you if you begin judging movies then you'll end up watching cartoons because Nothing on earth is absolutely PERFECT!!!
That is a really stupid comment. Really. Have not you heard of reviewing? She is doing a review. She has to tell the pros and cons of the movie. What they made good, what they did not etcetera. And you are telling her that nothing is perfect and if she keeps doing that she will end up watching cartoons. That does not make sense to me. So the cartoons are perfect? Nah... I don't think I get what you are trying to say.
There's nothing WRONG with her, but she does have CF (cystic fibrosis). The thing up her nose is a nasal cannula. It delivers oxygen to your lungs through the nose. She needs it because her body doesn't process oxygen correctly.
Do any tell you you talk to much if not I telling you lol ps what happen happen I feel sorry I not making fun of you when I said you talk to much jk just kidding
