This is my next purchase! Just got the Modius so this will be a fully end to end DC coupled balanced system! On a side note, your significant other seemed very turned on by your review of the Frey+. She was giving you some looks at the end of your video. 😂 Freya is after all, the goddess of love,fertility and beauty!

I use General electric 6sn7 gtb tubes on my schiit freya + with very nice results. Nice review.

Jon Berg Hi , Ok thank you it's good to know ! You should try Synergistic Research Orange fuses , There is a good chance that you will put it in all your devices ! It will end with an "Ooooh Shiiit" !!! 😉👍🏽 !

Loved the video. I totally agree that the importance of the preamplifier in your system should never be underestimated and that it sets the tone (no pun intended) for the rest of the sound.

Great stuff thanks for the feedback and your revisit. A man who can admit or re-evaluate his opinion/findings/thoughts on an issue is clearly an openminded person who can see more objectively and with the least possible bias. We need more opinions like this. I have preordered mine to couple it with my Gungnir multibit DAC and the rest of the system (Focal Solo 6 Be with SVS SB-2000 Pro sealed sub). The "neutral" frequency response of my speakers with the sub to help for low end coupled with my Gungnir produce a very interesting sound signature for me which I like.. Not too forward a bit laidback yet with the necessary detail available and imaging.. Gungnir provides a good soundstage and 3D sound but I really hope adding the Freya+ to the chain will help with the latter, that is soundstage and 3D in tube stage, despite my speakers being monitors..

Hi Dimitris thank you for your feedback much appreciated! Congratulations on your purchase - I am sure you are going to enjoy the Schiit! The Freya+ will enhance the midrange with some "bloom" but I am sure you will welcome it. On the imaging you will need to test various cable combinations on the pre-amp outs and speaker cables as well. Then finally remember to toe the speakers again after intruding all the changes to your liking. After this you can simply sit down and enjoy the music!

Only just seen your review. I recently purchased the Freya + and am actually using it with the same amp as you. I haven't noticed any problems in the bass extension. I am using Canton K1s and a Marantz SA-10

Hi Blair thank you for the feedback. I recently changed speaker interconnect cables and I must say the overall bass extension improved quite a bit. Thus as stated in some other recent comments the Freya+ is now my go to pre-amp! Still highly recommended! Congratulations on your purchase!

Updated: The Freya+ can ship stock with Tung sol 6sn7GTB, which are a big improvement over the original China made tubes. People have gotten even better results with Electro harmonix, sylvania, GE and PS vane tubes.

Hi David thank you for your inquiry and feedback. My recommendation is to directly order from Schiit, as I did. Overall experience was excellent and Schiit assisted to make the ordering experience as seamless as possible. Great product, even better value and excellent team working for Schiit :-)

My favorite tubes for this preamp. Sylvania 6sn7GT(aka bad boy), Sylvania 6sn7 GTA, Soviet Union 6h8C tubes, Any make of 6F8G or 6C8G tubes, you'll need adapters for the later tubes!

Hi and thanks for the review! The question is... if the preamp is not dramatic on the low end... how then is it able to pass a full bandwidth signal onto a subwoofer?

Could someone put my mind at rest? I have taken possession of a new Freya+ a couple of days ago. It augments the sound so well in my system -- wonderful and well worth the money. My question is I *believed* the Freya+ *automatically* turned off power to the tubes after a set period of non-use (musical silence) to prolong tube life, however mine does not even when the signal wires are unplugged for a long period. I can't find the original internet reference that led me to my belief, so perhaps a current owner can put my mind at rest as to whether there is a small fault in my Freya+. I appreciate the assistance. Many thanks.

Hi Keith congratulations on your new purchase and I am happy that the pre amplifier augmented the sound of your system. I haven't experienced any instances or events that the pre-amplifier would switch the valves off while the power switch is in the on position..even on prolonged periods of no input, but I must be honest the no input periods were below let's say around 25 minutes or so. Hope to receive further comments from the enthusiasts.

Hi Astro boy thank you for your inquiry. Good question. Over time the Schiit Freya+ pre-amp demonstrated that it can hold its own against serious and often very expensive competing designs. In many cases it even outperformed the competition. Recently I changed speaker interconnect cables, and I was astounded at the overall improvement in sound sound quality obtained. Thus it is the ability of the Freya+ to deliver improved results as you optimise the overall sound quality or signature, by matching the pre-amp with better "matching" power amplifiers and or interconnects. The highest recommendation originates from this ability to improve as you progress with your journey to obtain the best results. So in short I want audio enthusiasts to experience this pre-amp for themselves - so even if your budget far exceeds the asking price for the Schiit Freya+ I am sure you will be as impressed with the overall sound quality, as we were. So now 1 year later this pre-amp is now my go to pre-amp when wanting to enjoy music to its fullest. Give this pre-amp a go I am sure it will be a keeper. Enjoy the music!

Sweet review. Stock TungSol won’t sound as good as Electro Harmonix tubes. Both of these won’t give you the magic that you get with NOS tubes. Try the Sylvania 6SN7GTA (50’s) for a really nice airy high end and a sweet mid. There is also the Pope 6SN7GT that is even smoother than the Sylvania. Happy Hunting! 😬

Hi gwadaflat thanks for your inquiry. Basically the original supplied Tungsol tubes improved over time and I also used the Freya+ in more setups (with different power amps) so the combined improvement of the tubes over time and the matching to better power amps contributed towards the improvement of the score and my overall impression of the pre-amp. The pre-amp is now my go to pre-amp when auditioning new products such as speakers. Thus the Schiit Freya+ comes very highly recommended. Enjoy the music!

Try Psvane tubes. It was quite an improvement in the Saga over Tung-Sol.

How is freya vs a $10k preamp?

Hi I am puzzleman. Thank you for your inquiry. I have stated in my reviews of the Freya+ that the actual sound signature is closer to a solid state design - when the pre-amp is in tube mode. Yes the pre amp (in tube mode) still have some of the tube bloom in the midrange but the very lower bass response is on the dry side for a tube design. So if I compare the Freya+ to other tube designs it definitely out performs its price range up to, I will say 2x thus in the $1800 to $2300 price range. Thus an excellent buy. The only aspect highlighted is the dry lower bass. I still enjoy my Freya+. In am still going to swap the current tubes, to possibly get a different sound signature. Schiit Freya+ is highly recommended 👌

I have the Freya + and a few other preamps, one costing $10k. The freya + holds its own a bit above its price point, but doesn’t have the resolution that the higher price point preamps, imo. It’s has great versatility , but lacking refinement in build and SQ. Still an excellent preamp, but it sits on the shelf unused most of the time for me.

I am in the same situation with only connecting the pre-amp every now and then...but in each listening session (using the Freya +) I get reminded why I have purchased the pre-amplifier...

@@iampuzzleman282 I have some quads of Sylvania NOS chrome tops, fairly inexpensive and they do sound smooth and detailed. the new tungsols are good too.. but I prefer the NOS tubes of yesteryear.. The passive mode is excellent. In fact I use a transformer based passive from Music First audio most of the time in my system.. Less is more in audio..
