I'm buying the MASSDROP CTH + SDAC DAC/AMP paired with my HD660s Which tubes should i get? I just want a warm and good sound. Mostly for music and movies.
Ahhh, I was the guy you purchased the Lyr 2 from. Glad to finally see your review on Head-Fi and see this video. I do miss my HE-560 and Lyr 2 combo, they are an excellent pairing. I didn't realize the SocketSavers were so discoloured until I packed it up, the heat really made them quite brittle. A very nice review. =)
Excellent review. Your descriptions of tube sounds are fantastic. I wish there was some way to quantify tube sounds for comparisons. Nonetheless I feel like your reports provide ample understanding for tube considerations
Hey Aornic I'm a new subscriber and I really like your reviews. I'm trying to find a tube amp under 450$ that will warmthen up my HD 700 and Modi 2 combo. Any suggestions? Thanks
If you're open to upgrading you dac, the modi multibit is warmer and smoother than the modi2. Not like overly warm, just far more organic sounding. The treble is more detailed but way smoother and doesn't have that digital harshness of modi 2.
Magnus Eide Knutsen I am up to upgrading my DAC, but since I am short on money, I want to do one thing at a time. Are there any specific tubes that I should get with the darkvoice or are the stock tubes just fine?
No. The Darkvoice doesn't have enough output for the 300ohm HD800/S. It will get to 75% max. 1 watt power? The valahalla 2 is $349 and pumps almost a watt into 300 ohms, almost double the darkvoice. It's a 4w amp.
How well does HD800 synergize with Lyr 2 with Genalex E88CC/6922 Gold Lions and 6N23P-EV / 6H23P-EB NOS/Russia compared to Valhalla 2 (with stock tubes)?
Im using my meze 99 classics with them and I never even go above 10 percent volume so I dont think iems would go well with a amp like this which is quite powerful.
aornic Just wondering, If you had to choose one out of the eikon and Atticus, which would you take, I'm having trouble deciding, I like the HD650 so the Atticus maybe a good choice, but I was leaning more towards the Eikon for something different, but the difference is 300 and buying blind at this price is kind of scary, all signs point to them both being very good and the Eikon being technically great
