Review: SEPTEMBER LEATHER Products - A Quality Midori Alternative and a Field Notes Cover 

I’m a leatherworker and I honestly don’t know how they are making those for that price, especially the hand stitched ones.

Nice review. That leather journal is an awesome alternative to the Midori. I really like the modifications they've made to the elastics in the spine and the way they're anchored without using knots. If I didn't already own a Midori I'd seriously consider buying this.

The ones that are supposed to normally fit the FN cover are the Cahier seres, which are the soft cover series of Moleskine. Great review!

Great review. I have both a regular and a passport size Travelers Notebook from midori and use them every day. This alternative looks pretty good. I wouldn't want to be without my notebooks and the Travelers brand I have are holding up very well with lots of handling. Thanks for all your reviews, they have been very helpful to me.

I found your review on the actual September Leather website which helped me in deciding to bite the bullet and buy one (be it via Amazon). For someone just starting out the low price (compared to a genuine Midori) won me over and I've only had mine for about a month but can see myself getting years of use out of it. I bought one last month. LOVE it. Could not agree more about the attachment in the spine instead of the middle of the back. Not having a knot in the way is a plus. Very comfortable to use. They updated the closing electric to have a piece of leather on it which protects the open edge when it is closed. I also love the paper, the color, the weight etc. Now I've bought two more, a passport size and another traveler one as a retirement gift.

In watching this in 2020, I have got a couple of september leather TNs and I adore them, I've actually just ordered another standard size, they are now 4 strings and have a leather piece on the elastic to protect the leather when closing... I adore them c

Just purchased one last night and thought I would give you guys the update, it is now priced at $15.59 :) After I bought this I wanted to see if there was any videos on September leather this one popped up. So I instant subbed :) Now I can't wait to get my hands on it!!

I used this for about a month before purchasing my current Midori (in Camel leather). I agree that the quality is great and I was quite happy until I realized that the September Leather cover is 8.5" tall vs. Midori which is 22cm or closer to 8.75". I didn't notice until I got the Midori zipper pouch and kraft inserts, which were slightly taller than my cover. If all you're using are notebook inserts, this is a great alternative.

A little late here but I just had to put in my two cents. A little over a month ago I bought a passport size leather notebook cover from September Leather. It is comparable to a Chic Sparrow. It has an inch and a half leather spine as well as the front and back pockets similar to the Chic Sparrow. Bought it on Amazon and paid less than $30 for it. It also has four elastics. I am quite happy with it. I am thinking about getting the standard size as well.

hey; because of this review, i just pulled the trigger on 2 of these...one for me and another for a xmas gift...you've shown that it is of near quality of the midori at half the price; works for me...

I just ordered the midori alternative and they have it listed now for $17.99. A bought a cloth version awhile ago and the edges started to fray within the first week of me using it.

*UPDATE: 08/03/2018* Sorry guys. Looks like if you want a really good leather Field Notes cover, you're better off going with Popov Leather (also reviewed on Stuff & Things). Seems September Leather is no longer making the type of Field Notes cover reviewed above. Not available on Amazon, not available on their website either.

Thanks for a very helpful review. It is good to see that the loop is centered on the spine, rather than the back. Are you aware of any inserts that will lay open flat? I find it annoying to constantly have to hold the inserts open manually while writing., Thanks!

Thanks for the review. Currently on Amazon, there is the deluxe version that includes:8.5 x 4.5 Travel Diary with 5 Inserts + Pen Holder and Binder Clip, Standard Size, all for $28.95. This seems like a great deal, considering I don't have to buy separately these other pieces. The only thing is the leather notebook itself only comes in brown. I was hoping to get the coffee brown color. What do you think? thx!

Your Midori is so beautiful! I was wondering if you treat your Midori with anything? I just got mine a few months ago and adore it but I worry about the leather drying out? Yours looks so nice, you wouldn't think it is 2 years old. lol.

I really like the various MTN alternatives that are out there. The Midori are a nice product but I simply can't justify the price considering it's just a flap of leather and $0.03 worth of elastics. There can be value in the production of a simple design but in this case, there isn't even any thing about the creative process involved to justify the premium price tag for a relatively average set of parts. The metal trinkets and packaging are all nice but I'm sure add to the cost and are useless to me. I also prefer the closing elastic to come out of the spine as is the case with many of the "others". This way pulling the elastic doesn't distort the back cover or get in the way while writing. I'm not sure how any one with a hint of ADD or OCD can write with elastic bunched behind the back cover while using their notebook on a hard surface like a table and I think a reasonable portion of the people who gravitate towards stationary items have those traits.

I still choose Midori. If you have the money 💰 go for the original.

so with the weight of the paper, do you think it would handle a fountain pen without bleed through?

Nice review! I saw that style of video, only hands and with the little wave etc, by a youtuber that does journaling/penmanship/doodling...I don´t know if you have seen her channel or if this style is well established on the tube.

Hey I was thinking of getting this for my brother. It's currently $26 on Amazon. At that price point, is it still the best of all the notebooks you've seen? I was also considering the Zlyc notebook and wasn't sure which was better since now they are about the same price.

I just startd bullet journaling. realized the planer i bought wont hold up to every day shoving in my backpack. I hate having to take care of things. You think leather products would deal well with long nails and crumbs in my backpack?
