First video I've seen of yours. I appreciate the fact that you gave a bad review, and gave the reasons why. A good review is easy. You saved a lot of people money, time and frustration and that is wonderful.
Welcome to my crazy corner of the internet!!!! I don't think with this one I explained that these reviews are the whole point to my channel. It is why I am here. I want to be able to share honestly about these boxes and some of the new yarns on the market.
I've looked at Annie's clubs, however, I decided for myself that the value was not there for the $$$$!!!!! I also looked at the afghan club, which is WAY OVER PRICED!!!!! I just couldn't see paying what they wanted to charge for what they were going to send!!!! 😮 I do appreciate all the hard work and thoughtfulness that you put into this review!!!! I have watched Ross, Smells great guy, and he has bought the Mary Maxim knit club for years, and most of the "kits" that he gets are at least a value for the money!!!! Some are not to my personal taste, however if I was going to start spending my money on a club, at this point and time, that would probably be the one I would choose!!! I just don't have the extra money to spend, and if I do then I usually order the mystery bags from Mary Maxim. I take a chance on getting some yarns that I might choose to give away rather than use myself, but I've never bought one that I hated everything in!!!! And usually the value is there for the money, 😢 that's just my opinion though!!! Hope Troy is feeling much better!!!! Take care of the boys and yourself too!!! Thanks again for doing this for us, I'm just sorry that you were put in this position and wasted your time and money!!! Have a Blessed Day and a wonderful weekend!!
The value truly is abysmal!!! I reviewed Mary Maxim and I came down with, If you want to stash build and don't care if you can't get it again... It isn't a bad value. But they were selling themselves short not including things you could by from their store; especially their house line yarns which are pretty good. Troy is doing great, getting a bit stir crazy though. He is ready for his R&R to be over.
I am so glad for your review. I was just considering subscribing to one of the clubs. Decided to check out RU-vid for review and sooo glad I found out it is not worth it. Love your kitty.
With the way everything is in the world, it is becoming more important to think about what we want to spend our money on. As well as what we are willing to (unknowingly, or unintending), to support. I find myself having to stop and do more thinking about what companies I am willing to support with my dollars. The more I learn, the fewer companies will I patronize. It is the unseen that becomes problematic. If a company cannot provide the service they either said, or implied, they would. They lose my business. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Have a lovely, healing, refreshing weekend. I hope Troy is feeling better and doing better.
It is very important to be thoughtful where we put our monies. Companies who aren't giving us what we need, will only hear the masses with the all mighty dollar... I also think that many of us have forgotten how to live on a budget and don't consider as much as we should how we are spending not just with whom...
On paper it looks so good... It really was a shame that I had to say no because of price. I don't want to see someone over spend as much 45% with shipping for something like this...
Years back I joined one of Annie's afghan clubs. After the 3rd month, I started thinking about how much the afghan was going to cost at the monthly cost and stopped the subscription. It really is crazy. I agree with you about mary maxim. I wish they would use their brand of yarns in the club. Even with shipping it came to 23.00 a month and they always shipped the clubs in a zipper bag which in its self is nice. I would sign up for their knit or crochet club if they used their line of yarn each month. I completely understand why you chose to do the review this way. It was a very fair review, very truthful. To bad Annie doesn't care. Oh I almost forgot. I did try the sock club and once again, not worth it.
I couldn't imagine the other all costs for their blanket club based on some of the kits I have seen... It is a shame because I don't see why it should cost so much. There are so many ways to keep the over all costs down for a company like that who has access too so many options in house...
Thanks for your thorough review. I subscribed to the hook and needle club for a few months about 4-5 years ago and stopped because it was so overpriced. Two of the kits were 3 skeins of cotton, about $6 max, usually less on sale or clearance. Plus I received basket patterns two months in a row. That was it for me.
This is my first time seeing one of your videos and - gah !!! You are the best, love your honesty and your facial expressions are priceless - you’ve got yourself a subscriber ❤
Hey Carrie! This was a lot of good information. I'm glad that you did the review in this way since it needed to be discussed, but not really worth giving it the full subscription box treatment. I hope you have a wonderful day 💙
I'm cheap too - I try to pay 50% or less of retail unless there is a particular need. I also like Ice Yarns when I can pay a large sum at once for what is, after all, a great bargain in the end. You were being VERY generous on the costs of these items, especially that pompom - which I thought looked extremely sick and abused, and should have been thrown in for free... Have a great day. 🐞
Thanks for your review and saving us a few dollars. I was knitting along and then took a break - didn't realize how long it was! Hope you will have better experiences to come. I'm not purchasing outside of Canada right now because we still have to pay about 40% exchange rate and, heaven forbid, import duties on top. I've been successful at finding enough yarn through Canadian websites - even MaryMaxim when they have a sale or reduced shipping.
It was a very long video this time! There are some great companies up there. Sweet Skein O Mine and Aberdeen Wool are 2 I have paid the shipping down here for.
I agree and will say don’t ever feel as if you have to sugar coat something to make it more edible. Facts are facts and the numbers don’t lie. I’d probably be fuming lol, but I’m like you. Most of my stash was purchased for crazy cheap, I rarely pay full retail for big box yarns. PS Hope hubs is feeling well and on the mend! 💜
I won't sugar coat it for you. The whole point is to be honest and make it so I can be honest. I have been very selective with who I have worked with and what I am willing to share much less recommend. Hubby is doing very well, we are in the home stretch with him "convalescing" and he is more than ready to get back to normal life again. He is annoyed with me seeing him going to do something that he shouldn't be doing.
Been away…Good to see you in my feed again.. Banner is adorable. I woukd never join a yarn subscription…of any kind. Too risky, and …for me…a waste of money. I prefer to choose my own yarn and accessories. However, I do enjoy yiur reviews… ❤
I know you're not so keen on negatively. But I just wanted to thank you for your honestly. I feel like its often hard to get accurate reviews nowadays because people supercoat the products because they want people to click the affiliate link and many youtubers have ties to companies (and thats perfectly ok so long as its disclosed). Often "reviews" are just advertisments. So being willing to put out info, even when its not all positive is super helpful. I just wanted to say thank you, bevause I understand its not an easy thing to do in todays climate.
It isn't that I am not keep on negativity, but I do hate to sound like I am talking "smack" about a company. The whole point to me reviewing things was that I was going to pay for it and be honest. It is very hard to get real reviews; most people just unbox things now and maybe touch it for a minute. I really want to review these and be honest with my experience.
They will sit around for a few months. I don't mind the yarns... I didn't like the box though. I do want to play with some unforgettable in the Addi. I saw a really pretty split cowl made with it a few weeks ago.
It is always hard to have to negative in a review. Especially since was specially asked for and I really was hoping that I would have another "affordable" box to share...
Thank you! I always hate being harsh on these. There are boxes for different people and generally they at least have value even if it isn't the best box on the market.
Thank you for the review on this company. I have been doing the mary maximum for a few months now and haven't really been happy with the patterns. I keep thinking maybe it will get better,
I felt like MM was great for stash building if you didn't care what you were getting but the projects were lacking. Annie's is just a NO for me. I didn't over pay for my total of 12 boxes with MM when I reviewed them and right after that review, they did include some of their house yarns in their boxes.
Lmao, look at you trying to make a rusty bent nail all straight n shiny! A+ for effort! I was highly amused the whole time! Even when knitcrate made me pull my hair out waiting 3 plus months w no yarn I was still pleased w the eventual arrival of the box! No more Annie’s for you! Unless u want to make the $300 blanket.
I would never subscribe to any box!. These companies are not your personal shoppers. They are selling to the masses and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Many folks enjoy the convenience and the surprise and to them it is worth it and too the feel good of supporting a small business. If you watch your sales you will always come out better than a box. The biggest monetary rip off are the meal kits but for the convenience and novelty this is a booming business. Everyone's value is different.
It isn't for everyone, I 100% agree. I do love my independent dyer boxes but I have kept the 2 that match my personal tastes and style there is very limited risk to me knowing what they offer. Large company, I would expect to see about a 25% discount from "estimated retail" but my indy boxes... 15% is fair in my opinion. That is where I have drawn my lines for these kinds of things though. I think there is also the person who likes to get a surprise project because they get craft blocked and don't know what to do. These boxes can be great for clearing that and get you rolling through some other projects.
I was suckered in to one of their afghan kits, where they send you installments of the pattern and the yarn every month. While I'm happy with the afghan and the instructions were fine, it was really pricey.
I was looking at that as a year long fun thing but I did see what was in those and seriously... unless they made some major changes, my estimate is you would over pay 20% not including shipping...
Herrschners is going to be closed a day or two next week, in order to get ready for their annual warehouse sale. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I won't be here for it. Last year, I bought some for projects I really did make and complete.
@@Stettafire I lied it was only 29 dollars a month for 10 months, when it showed up. They even told me I was using the wrong address! Like I don't know where I live. 😂
Well, I'm still considering myself beginner-semi-immediate, but a forever penny pincher. I haven't, & won't buy anything from MM unless it's on sale. Not sell; Sale. Just me, just sayin'.
Brand new to your channel first find, but I have to say that your seasonally also does not take into consideration the entire United States. Both of those patterns that you showed would have been seasonally correct for where I am in the USA. Yarn prices have jumped, so what I could have paid for yarn last year is not the same as this year.
Most of the time with a kit like this you send things out at least one season in advance, so you can have the item for the intended season. Even by the time I got those, the hat and boot cuffs were already not as usable by the time they were finished. Yes, yarn prices had gone up; but I based the assessment on the current prices of yarn. I always do my percentages based on the current cost (at time of filming).
I am not either to be honest and maybe that is why I wasn't more angry... I was thrown when they changed the club on me out of left field... It isn't really a waste though. The point for making this channel was to review these boxes and say what and where the value is in them. It wasn't a great box to get but it did serve the purpose!
Hook and needle was a big big disapointment!!!! Yarn was 100% wool....like a brillo pad wool....i did crochet and knit. So that 50.00 was waisted. I cant afford crap.
