There are some great hooped bivvy bags out there. I find the TAS, not only performs well, it is also more affordable. Keen to know which one you end up buying.
@@WildTreksAustralia Do you know if the TAS hooped bivvy insulates like the TAS bivvy bag does? I already have the latter and love it. The problem of how well it insulates keeps me hesitant. I want a hooped bivvy I can use for winter. Trapping heat is the main attraction.
I've been looking at this for a while. It's a copy of the Dutch and Carinthia design. I wonder how the breathability is inside compared to the Dutch goretex material? Over the front rain flap (without flyscreen) and mid section area I'd consider sewing some tabs to prevent pooling and leakage over your torso in heavy rain, like the Manly leak. Guyline to a stick would work great.
hi there. As I mentioned in this vid, I have been using the bag now well over a year and in variety of conditions. I had very little condensation building up and it appears the material performs very similar to a triple layer Gore-Tex bivvy. Compared to the original Dutch hooped bivy, I prefer the double hoop of the TAS, its provides more space around the head. You mentioned the absence of a flyscreen in the mid-section, a flyscreen is indeed a desired feature. However, for the price-point it probably is one of the better bivys. You mentioned pooling of water. The bivy is quite wide, when you are laying in the bag, there will be some flat sections on either side that can trap water. however, you can fill it up with your gear, and It never leaked on me.
There are a few outlets selling this bivy. Here is a link to a seller on ebay. Note that the currency is in Australian dollars. For reference I paid about $225 AUS. www.ebay.com.au/itm/184392738095?chn=ps&_ul=AU&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1z834klwvRriFcPW30S80_A74&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=184392738095&targetid=1598469861558&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9071791&poi=&campaignid=19657035767&mkgroupid=143201283022&rlsatarget=pla-1598469861558&abcId=9305369&merchantid=107429297&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiMmwBhDmARIsABeQ7xQzdG9GsTFlx5AyU8_uo0x-GEJwDYMUszjnC40HAw9a1jWDu4aZEe4aAnpwEALw_wcB
You would think so. My experience is that's not too bad as long humidity is not too high. I do bring a full length mosquito net when I expect to leave the top section open during the night.
