I've been running from the grammar since I started to study japanese (it's been a little bit more than 1 year) and I was focusing entirely on vocab, kanji and listening. I was always terrified by the grammar points in the textbooks, but since I started to watch your videos everything started to seem more easy and funny, it's incredible when you're watching an anime, reading a manga or something related and you see one grammar point and start to think "I've studied this and this..." Just seems like everything has his place in the language.

The difference between the 'su' at the end of 'matsu' vs the 'su' at the end of 'naosu' is very confusing. 'Why does su become shite in naosu but su in matsu becomes matte? Misa made a lesson called "#17 TE form す, する & くる ending - Japanese Lesson for Beginners" where she addressed this, so I guess I'll have to check it out and see if the answer's in there. Great video.
@deqa
@deqa 3 года назад
I think the answer to this is that 'matsu' has a tsu ending, whereas naosu is just a vowel + tsu. That's probably why. So if it's a vowel + tsu you add shite. Naosu > naoshite / naoshimas, matsu > matte / matteimas. Then again, suru is an irregular and doesn't even abide by this vowel rule.
