Do you have to keep recharging that small battery with at a charging station or can you just charge it back up while driving? I feel like spending 2+ hours at a level 2 charger for 30 miles of use is counter productive

It recoups some energy while driving, but the intent is to charge at home and then use the gas motor after the 32 miles, which is more than most people usually drive daily. If there's a charger at your destination, great, but the idea behind a PHEV is that you use it as an electric car most days, but don't have to stop to charge on long trips.
