REVIEW! The WR Watches / Rdunae RA03 Field Watch - Vietnam U.S. military style wristwatch

First look review at the Rdunae / WR Watches RA-3 field watch, a homage to the MIL-W-3813 and similar watches issued by the U.S. military to its troops, particularly in Vietnam. They ran from disposable plastic ones up to models made by such former American greats like Hamilton, Bulova, Benrus (a Bulova subsidiary). They were made well, made to last.
I compare Rdunae's new Miyota 2035 quartz-powered remake to an original five-digit serial from March 1965. Case finishes, dial printing, accuracy to the original requisition for the watches. Case design, differences, value for money etc.
PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, typically none. We have zero script beyond the questions people have sent in for mail call. Same for the sound - I forget my microphone pretty regularly, so if you can hear *anything* count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to spend part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

I have had my RA03 for several weeks and I love it. The aesthetic nails it. Nobody is doing this watch with the correct size. $51 delivered to USA. Good lume, lasts all night. Timekeeping is about 1s slow after two weeks. Not bad for a $5 movement. Had a Hamilton KFM and sold it. 38mm too large and the L2L too long. Wish Hamilton would put this out in the size/finishing of their Pilot Pioneer with the H50. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Amazing how a $5 quartz can beat the shit out of the most chronometrically chronometered chronometer from the most whoreological of watch idiot savant approved Swiss snake oil brand. If time telling is what gets WIS boners going then a dirt cheap quartz should get them rock hard.

I was issued one. At that time it was plastic and radioactive lume. One the back it had the mil specs and part number. If you lost it, or just wanted to keep it, you signed a form and 30 bucks come out of your pay. Nobody wanted it hardly ever.

Just found the brand Kelton from France, that was in some way related to Timex in the old days. And they seem to be doing something that Timex is just not capable of: They produce a hand-wound version of the Camper that looks pretty similar to the watches that went to Vietnam. It's called the Kelton Jungle.

Anzac Day downunder NZ and Australia remembering Aussie NZ involvement in WW2, a good time to review military watches. Keep well from NZ

Great review of a very cool little watch. Please keep us posted should you find a mechanical movement that would work here. That's the only thing I would change.

@@SpencerKleinVintageWatch apparently it's dead easy to drop in a vh31 (if you can get the crown off the original stem). Not a *mechanical* movement, but it would still be an upgrade.

Are they bringing back that Rdunae? I mean the Seiko homage?

7:55 I have a Hamilton GG-W-113 from March of 1982 (it's very similar to the Benrus) and it has 17.5mm lugs too. My suspicion is that it's actually 11/16th inches, instead of 18mm! It's actually a bit of a pain because if you use a new 18mm nylon strap it may fray the edges when you pull it through. My Hamilton also has the same edge where the case meets the lugs as the Benrus. I noticed that later GG-W-113s from 1983 onwards have a smooth transition between case and lugs, same as the Rdunae.

Spencer, please help. I recently purchased a 2205-0769 lady diver. I must know if I can fit an NH05 movement in there. Any clue to whether this is possible? Alternatively, if you happen to know the dimensions of the 2205 caliber, it would be of great help if you could facilitate them.

If it's the NH version of the 2205 it should be drop-in ready.
