Its an excellent tool. I took a 55 gallon plastic drum, cut the top off and made a bracket out of steel tubing to set the shredder directly on top of the drum. When the drum got full I picked up the chopper and pushed down on the leaves. When it would not compress any more I would take the drum to where I wanted the chopped leaves to sit and dump the chopped leaves out

Thanks for the setup and demo. I am going to try a diy hack version of a battery powered string trimmer in a tub of leaves to see if that does a similar job. If it doesn't do what I need, this item might be what I want. edit- my goal is to shred for composting, not setting to the curb, so being able to process grass clippings and kitchen scraps as well is my end goal.

The best and quickest remedy is an electric mulching lawn mower--I like the Scotts because of the metal deck-it's quieter and a lot more power-will chew up twigs also-and a much finer mulch. Got all my neighbors doing the same thing now, LOL.

My folks have one of those Toro Ultra Blower/Vacs. It's alright for what it is, just being stuck with a cord is a pain because you might turn one way and next thing you know it's shut off after the cord comes out.

Fired off mine today, and here,s my plug, Just confirming some of what is shown here. Safety glasses, and maybe a face shield and hearing protection are a must. I used us the first cutter lines in less than 60 seconds. It is as advertised a leaf mulch tool. It does not like sticks or twigs. Any thing bigger than a leaf stem will eat up the cutter line. Therefore the rate of feed is much slower than advertised. I don't know if your trees only drop leaves but mine loose a lot of twigs and sticks. I had to carefully pick out sticks and twigs. Also leaves not fully dried clog it up. The package of line was consumed completely after 10 bags of cottonwood in 4 hours. Overall it worked well. Disappointed with how much line it consumed. The mulch was fine and looked good. The shorter the trimmer line the slower It processed the leaves. The slower it processed The finer the mulch. So far I like it and it worked well.

Yes and it reduced by 50% but the bags got heavy. Make sure you get good quality bags the added weight will put them to test them.

This was a more helpful video review. I am looking to mulch avocado leaves which are somewhat thick, and they are often a combination of dry and more green leaves as they fall all year long. I'm wondering if this machine would work on them. I fear it might not work so well.

I loved the results I had gotten with mine but it only worked one season, it wants to shut down right away now. Think I will just go with my weed-trimmer in a garbage can for my leaves. I learned a long time ago, take a minute and look at the paper work that comes with a product. Totally recommend safety glasses when working with this machine.

I have mine for the last 2 years and it is a life saver. We have many big oak trees and my lawn is covered with leaves each season. I used to pile them up in the woods but took too long to decompose. Now I mulch through several hundreds of bags and get fine leaf mulches that I use for compost or just mulch for the woods. They break down so fast that you won’t see much the summer after. I suspect you might have ropes, vines or twines twisted around the shaft so it may slow down the machine or even toast the motor. See if you can clean the debris around the shaft using a plier.

Since it's string, do you think they could handle thithona (mexican sunflowers) enough so they could be more effectively used as green manure? Also, how do you think it would fare using metal line?
@misbeehayvin833
@misbeehayvin833 3 года назад
I am not have any experience putting anything like mexican sunflowers through it and though the stems look to be small enough, I am not sure how strong the fibers are in the stems. As for metal line, this is something I have been wanting to try, but I have not yet tried it. The motor should be fine and it should improve the machines cutting ability, but it does also make it a good deal more dangerous.

I bought one. It works great on dry leaves. Not as well on wet ones. But, it does go through a lot of trimmer line. I'm going to try an appropriate sized metal line to see if it would work better. I wonder if anyone has tried a metal line.

how did the metal line work?
@peterdavila3045
@peterdavila3045 8 месяцев назад
@mikemarcus8676 Fogetabotit ... not practical without some protection builtin. A metal line will cut body parts off rather easily if you're not careful. So, don't do it. I suppose a safe such weed wacker could be designed, but you would need a smart device that would stop instantaneously on contact with anything other than grass 🙄

@misbeehayvin833
@misbeehayvin833 3 года назад
I have not tried to remove mine yet, but it looks like it might be screwed on with a reverse thread. I don’t think it uses the same attachment style as a string trimmer. Swapping the head might put too much strain on the motor, so be careful there. I am thinking that I am going to use 1/16-inch braided cable for my string next season to see if it improves the cut ad extends the time between changing the line. If you figure something out, I would love to know.
@hz4168
@hz4168 3 года назад
You can use the regular braided 0.090 or even 0.095 trim line to save money and extend the life of the string. It may require a little patience or a plier to thread it when it is dirty with the leaf powder.

I would have liked a little more show rather than tell: show the wear on the trimmer cord - don't describe it. Show the manual pages. You can use the mulcher without bags if you want but for a review, you ought to attach a bag as the manufacturer intended. Position the camera high and closer to the mulcher so we can see how well the leaves flow into it. Show the buildup of mush inside and how the twigs block the ports. This was like a radio review instead of a video review.

Ok video. Take a couple practice shoots to perfect before filming. Would have been worth reading the instructions first online then explain when assembling which took too long to watch. Good explaining of the wet and dry leaves effects on shredder. Nice to name types of leaves but needed to know large, thick leaves or sizes of small sticks that could be used. Twigs certainly shorten the life of strings. But it is a little extreme to go through a pair after each bag. You must have too much big twigs or branches. May pay off by teasing out some of the big ones first.

Looking back on it, Yes! In the future I will attempt to put more emphasis on taking the extra step for safety. Criticism meant to be constructive: 1. Dump the music. It's too irritating to have to hear an endless, useless distraction. 2. It would have been good to read the instructions outside of the video time so we don't have to use our time to watch you read. 3. You did not tell us the reduction ratio. You could have started with bagged leaves and later put the mulch into bags and the difference in quantity would be very informative. On the whole, this was a helpful review.
