The best thing I've heard all week. Even better than the negative result on that paternity test.

I have wanted a 22/410 over under for a long time. After seeing this, I bought the .22 and 44 magnum 7" rifled adapters. I have a stevens side by side 12ga I paid $90 for. Now instead of having to buy another gun, I can use one I already have. I may not have the storage options in the gun..... but I have pockets! LOL It might be more heavy than the single shot, but I like being old school.

Dave, you've made me rethink my adaptability weapon selections... i will be building this system soon. It Solves many of my issues, (into one firearm no less) and I was not aware of the shotgun adapters prior to your vids. Thanks Dave

I am really diggin the current set of vedios from Dave. I enjoy the primitive camping/lifestyle type kit -vs- the tactical/survival stuff that we see most often. Pkease do more.

Love the stock!! First thing I would store in it is gun related stuff. Springs, firing pins, tools etc. If this weapon is to be a survival weapon when times get hard, it would be nice to have the things to repair the gun if needed and getting the parts now is easy.

A .357/.38 rifled adpt would be a good addition to the kit also.

Like the music over the titles. When I first saw one of your videos I sat and watched the man stalk through woods, kneel, take aim, and then "pop"; it was a bit of anti-climax. The "gun noise" never did the build up justice. But the music is super.

I had that same stock set on my H&R 20 gauge. Recently I pulled the stock off the shotgun and put it on my H&R .22 sportster rifle. The stock worked great on the rifle provides more utility for me. The stock is awesome.

That is a "must have" weapon systems. That kind of flexibility would be perfect for survival, much more so than a 12ga alone. Thanks for all you do Dave.

Shotgun wise we have a mossberg 870 pump and a winchester 1953 410A youth model. They both work great. The 410 is amazing it is light it breaks down so it is easy to pack in a bug out bag and works great for small game.

The H & R Survivor stock has a 3 1/2 x 7 x 1 inch storage compartment that lets you store ammunition or survival gear. The butt pad has a thumb screw that lets you swivel the pad to the side for easy access to the storage. Our Store-Arm fore end sold separately has two storage compartments one 1 x 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and one 1 x 1 1/2 x 3 inches. It has a thumb screw that lets you remove the fore end to get to the storage and allows for quick dis-assembly of the gun. $36.75

I live in Australia. I love your videos and find it very interesting the firearm videos. I am amazed the prices for the gun and add ons are so low but. Would have thought the gun cost would of had to be $500-1000 cost, crazy. Such different worlds we live in. Im attempting to make a bow self reliant type of set up.

Dave, I was in the process of buying a beater shotgun to carry in my truck. Due to this video, I'm gonna make sure I get my moneys worth and buy a shotgun that I can use this choate stock system to contain a survival kit, ammo & first aid set up in the weapon. Thank You!

I recently became the owner of a H&R survivor in .308 Winchester, it came with the survivor stock but chose to remove it for a youth conventional. My thinking is to get the 12 gauge barrel with a glow sight (take both barrels to be machined to 18.5 / 20 inches to fit in my pack) and have a handy rifle for both hunting all the game in my area and protection in an urban environment WROL setting. The adapters are another component to the kit aswell.

Mr. Canterbury. Thank you Sir, very much, for your hard work, informative videos and information presented on this weapon (H&R 12g B/Action Shotgun). Your presentation helped me decide on this weapon, and the caliber-reducing converters kit(s). Again, thank you Sir. Oscar

I have a lot of spinal damage and can only carry so much, about 20 to 30 pounds maximum and only have one arm available (I have to use a walking stick). My current rifle is about 8 or 9 pounds. Then a water bottle, panic beacon (wife, daughters, and son-in-laws won't let me go out without it), trail mix, a clip of ammo, and my heavy coat. I like the idea of the hollow stock because it'll allow me to put everything in one place (except the water bottle) and it'll stay dry.

Thanx Dave for a great review on a survival shotgun, I too think it's the best way to go, but for me, sometime with all that we carry, it is a bit bulky, but I still consider it to be the best survival protection, and to get meat for the table, but when we go out, it's more for survival protection, and not hunting, for the longest time, where I go, I compromised size, for convenience, so I carried my Super Comanche Single Shot Pistol, I carry it in a 30 cal. M-1 carbine canvas military sheath, that fits it like a glove, it's a .410, and a .45LC pistol, its the 10" S.S. barrel, I find I can shoot both the .410, and the .45LC's out of the shotgun choke, and sometimes I get lucky, and nailed a Grouse, with the help of Brandy, the German Shorthair, but believe me, I think it was more luck, because the bird was still alive, but down, what's your take on doing what I did to substitute for a full size shotgun, I watch most all of your videos, and highly regard your opinion.
@tsnorquist

I had a "Snakecharmer" .410 shotgun that looks exactly like that shotgun. Same type of stock and grip in a smaller package. I passed it on to my dad and upgraded to the 12 guage.

Their is a whole series about the 20th century long hunter. Watch it from the very beginning since his comments about the 12 gauge single shot are scattered through out that series. I have been wanting to buy a new single shot 12 gauge for awhile now. This gives me more options for it. I am going to cut down the barrel to the bare legal length and keep hot glue slugs with it for defense. I've said it before but you are definitely the man I trust when it comes to survival.

I watched a video of shot shells fired through a rifled shotgun barrel. The pattern spread wider from the rifled barrel then from a smooth bore probably because it put a spin on the pellets. So it is a trade off. Better pattern for the .410 or better accuracy for the .45. At the average distance they both would be used I suspect the difference would be minimal.

Talk about memories. Those shotguns have been around forever. It was the one shotgun WalMart always had. Just about everyone I know had one of these at one time or another as they're so cheap. Great for sawing off and making into a jacket pocket shotgun. Theres no forgiveness with these as they kick like a mule. I would imagine the stock cover here might soak up some recoil.?.?. That 3inch conversion kit is genius but I wonder if works well with side by sides or over unders ??? Great video and nice info. Thanks Dave,N8knox

He made a video a while back explaining his reasons for the single shot. He focusses on the H&R 12 bore in the vid.
@kwstikas82
@kwstikas82 12 лет назад
it will not, because the storage compartment is 3,5x7 inches, so diagonally the distance is 7,8 inches from corner to corner. Bare in mind that the adaptor is not placed exactly at the corners, so the diagonal storing length is even shorter for the adaptor. Is it an option to saw off about half an inch? Though i think the adaptor could fit inside the traditional, wooden stock

Single shot shotguns are extremely simple and as such, are some of the cheapest and most reliable firearms available. Also the most versatile like Dave said, with use of adapters.

Old training dies hard. Everyone around laughs when they hear that "pop, pop" and it has become a trade mark of mine. Besides, sometimes one shot dosn't drop the deer and I'd like to get the second one as close to the first shot before the deer moves. Most of the time the double tap method works without a hitch.

Dave, kudos to you for opening eyes around the world. This is infinitely more capable than a AR-7 or a M6 (coupled with a pathfinder kit), assuming the quality of the stock. In the interest of bombproofedness (yes, I made that word up just now), I would respectfully ask you that you REALLY abuse that stock that way that a true survival situation might just. In other words, I would love to see a ballistic gel beat-down or a dead pig get hammered in various ways with it.

I went a little different on my NEF I cut barrel to 20" had a poly choke installed off of a old mossberg ( no choke tubes to lose) installed rifle sights off a remington 700 for slugs. Sling swivels. I went paracord sling encase I need paranoid. And made it double wide so I can take off one and still have a sling . 5 shell shell holder and a hammer èxtension. I have pumps and autos but this is the gun that goes everywhere I go. The rest are safe queens. Let me ask ya I know the 22 adapter isn't going to be a tack driver but with my rifled sights is it accurate enough to be useful?

The single shot shotgun is very versatile but, a good rifle is a must I think(sometimes). With the adapers they work well close in with those calibers. At longer ranges I see them enaccuracy. I think you did a video on th M6 but those are not all that common. How about some videos covering .22 rifles or high power like a forigen surplus, single shot (interchange barrels rifle&shotgun), or newer entry level bolt actions. Something like .223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54 or .308 is powerful and commonman.
