the first movie is grossly underrated! Literally the BEST COMIC BOOK movie to ever come out. Endgame is the best SUPERHERO movie but not the best COMIC BOOK movie
@@AStylz28i wouldn’t say best comic book movie… definitely not… i can name a few better movies instantly, Spider-Man 3, Ironman, the dark knight trilogy, Logan, end game, Deadpool 1-2. There’s a few more but there’s a few right there lol. 90s tmnt is def in the top 15 though.
@@CaptainRockoBDNo way you just said Spiderman 3. Did you mean no way home? Even if you did it's not better than tmnt. The only ones you mentioned that were better are the Dark knight trilogy and Logan. Dead pool movies are straight trash.
The first live action still holds up. So much heart, action and comedy all rolled into one movie. Also, not to forget, get very realistic as if turtles REALLY lived amongst us
the first movie is grossly underrated! Literally the BEST COMIC BOOK movie to ever come out. Endgame is the best SUPERHERO movie but not the best COMIC BOOK movie
But unfortunately, for the third movie, when the Jim Henson Creature Shop didn't come back to help out, that meant Kevin Clash didn't come back as Splinter for the third one
Secret Of The Ooze is awesome, but the original is a near masterpiece. Seeing it in the cinema in 90's was incredible! I think my favorite moment was the entire April country house sequence, where they recover, see Splinter's hologram force ghost, and plan things out.
@krazykajeevie Yep, part three had some good ideas, but was easily the worst of the three. I too saw that opening weekend in the cinema in 93' and quickly was shocked by the new turtle design, which made all of them look sick lol, like they were dying.
TMNT is my favorite franchise. So glad to see that people are finally starting to realize it isn't just for kids. It can get brutally dark and those comics don't hold back.
the first movie is grossly underrated! Literally the BEST COMIC BOOK movie to ever come out. Endgame is the best SUPERHERO movie but not the best COMIC BOOK movie
The first movie from 1990 is as close to a perfect TMNT movie as you could ever hope for. It towed the line perfectly for both kids and adults. It was dark but funny. It was violent but not too violent. It was the perfect blend of the source comics and the cartoon series. And those turtles suits!!! Absolutely perfect. A classic.
I grew up watching these and tmnt almost every night. Actually, I rewatched the first one a few nights ago, and I still love it planning on rewatching secrets of the ooze. Perfect duology
As someone who’s never seen either, I agree. A perfect duology. Nothing more, nothing less. To lack Secret of the Ooze would be a profound loss, to create a shitty sequel about time travel that would be memed and hated in the fan base for decades to come would be an insult.
As someone who was born and raised in Queens, that was within the demographic for the first TMNT film (and the 2nd) I can tell you that I remember almost pissing my pants with excitement waiting in line at Green Acres mall to see the first movie. It was different when you actually lived in the 5 boroughs at that age. Felt like the turtles were real lol. What a time to be a kid.
I love the costumes for the turtles in the first movie. They just took the designs from the '87 cartoon and made them realistic. One interesting thing is that at one point in the later seasons of the show, it started to take a more serious tone so the designs of the turtles were altered to be darker colored and look more serious. And during that era the intro of the show would flash clips of the 1990 movie.
I am so excited to watch this! I can’t express how much I love the turtles and now, one of my favorite RU-vidrs is talking about them!!!! Sending love Cris!
Thank you so much for making this video Cris. I honesty didn’t think you’d make a whole review series on the Tmnt movies when I asked on your twitch stream. You made my dreams come true and you’ve honestly been pumping out so much content too. Keep up the great work brother!
I wonder if they can try and do another Turtles live action movie with the suits and at least have that 90s tone with a Last Ronin movie to make a new movie and have a different feel from what we usually get
Fun fact Mikey lasted the longest with Shredder, he was legit one of the best fighters and had a lot of built up anger in him. The deleted scene would have shown him training and grieving, also there’s a deleted shredder scene where he beats tf out of the teenagers that failed em, also an extended scene where Raph and Casey’s fight extended into an alley. Man this movie is amazing and still holds up better than half the shit coming out now lol. Glad to see this is getting more attention, spread this movie to the new generation!🤘🏻
What gives the 1990 movie such an advantage of any of the later movies is that was a stylized independent movie. A big part of the charm of the comics was that there was an indie sensibility where Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird could do whatever they wanted just cause they think it would be fun and this movie follows suit. Not to mention the story, visuals, and characters all feel right out of the comics as well. It's a really damn good and accurate adaptation.
the first movie is grossly underrated! Literally the BEST COMIC BOOK movie to ever come out. Endgame is the best SUPERHERO movie but not the best COMIC BOOK movie
the first and second TMNT movie will always have a place in my heart and the third flim as well, when i was a kid i always looped those movies over and over again i couldn’t stop they were so much fun to rewatch them! i can’t wait for mutant mayhem and your upcoming reviews! 🐢
@@evilzdeadite I always say that there's a place to use practical effects, and a place to use CGI, and using one where you should use the other can ruin a movie. For example: CGI would have ruined the animatronics in Willy's wonderland, and practical puppets would have ruined Sonic and friends in the live-action Sonic movies.
Personally I love Both the 1st and 2nd Movies Equally in Different Ways as I watch them Multiple Times, same goes to the 3rd Film, I don’t hate it as to me is an Overrated Guilty Pleasure, plus I did Laugh Hard Everytime with the Joke “Bungee Jumping without a Bungee”.
Being a kid who grew up in the 2010s, my go to tmnt project was always the 2012 show. That show had good animation, great characters, and a surprisingly mature story.
dude you are my favourite movie channel on the platform. i always love to hear your insights on movies you've seen or the latest news regarding upcoming or rumoured films. i just wanna give thanks for always providing us with fantastic movie related content. great work man.
Nice costume I must admit the Michael bay movies are my guilty pleasure also Chris I know how you feel when I was in elementary school as a kid I had a guinea pig and I loved him to death. One day I came home, and the exterminator was walking out with him in his hand
That edit of Tetsu deserves the Oscar 🤣 Also everyone knows the first movie is one of the greatest movies of all time. 2 was okay but the OG is in a class of its own.
Just watched the 1st one with my wife 2 weeks ago on blu ray we were surprised how it held up after all these years the jokes still hit & it was still enjoyable 🐢 😁😁😁
If u pay attention to the size and bulk of Raphael with his shell he wouldnt fit lying completely on his back in the tub. Which is why they positioned him the way they did. Raph was the bulkier of his 4 bros.
The voice of Donatello in TMNT2 was Adam Carl. Leif Tilden was the guy in the suit for the first two movies (for dialogue scenes, not fight scenes). Incidentally, Ernie Reyes Jr. (Keno in TMNT2) was Donatello's fight actor in the first movie.
I was Born in 2004 and my dad introduced me to Ninja Turtles and I LOVE The Ninja Turtle Movies One of my favorites is the 2007 herre is my rankning 1.Turtles Forever(The crossover tmnt cartoon film) 2.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 : Secret of The Ooze 3.TMNT(2007) 4.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 5.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 6.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 7.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out if The Shadows
Leif Tilden didn't do the voice for Donnie in Secret of the Ooze, it was Adam Carl. Tilden was the actor in the suit. Raph's voice actor was also replaced with Laurie Faso instead of Josh Pais.
these movies play a huge role in my entire childhood. born in 83 these were always on it seemed. Esp part 1. And then part 2 and then 3 disappointed me when I was a little older. Fav is def Ralph in part 1
The first Turtles film was the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. For the twentieth anniversary, they brought it back to theaters for a day and I took my oldest daughter to see it. It was amazing to see it on the big screen again.
Nothing will beat the first one.. nothing Best adaption of the turtles to date. Man I hope we get like a direct sequel to the first one. Kinda how they did w the Halloween franchise. The first one was legit a masterpiece, character development, the writing, the fighting, the dialogue. I wish they released the extended deleted scenes bc there was so much to em. Absolute 🐐. Also it’s got Sam Rockwell in it lol
My personal favorite of the trilogy would have to be TMMT 2: Secret of the Ooze. I grew up in one of those households where we had a ton of different films from various franchises, but never had a complete franchise sitting on the shelf. Like for example, we had Toy Story 2, Terminator 3, Rocky 3, Karate Kid 2 & 3, Shrek 2, Star Wars episodes 4 & 5, and of course TMNT 2. No idea why we had mostly sequels, but I worked with what we had, and I watched TMNT 2 *ALL THE TIME!* We also had it on both VHS and DVD for some reason?😂 So yeah I’m a little bias when it comes to TMNT 2 because of the nostalgia it holds for me, but I also think it’s just the most entertaining of the trilogy…..and it’s got freakin SUPER SHREDDER!!!
Chris you forgot about the rest of the TMNT movies like Turtles Forever & Batman vs TMNT but great video man I had a few laughs and this felt very nostalgic to me thank you.
I kind of wish you would also review The Turtles Forever movie that came out in 2009, that movie that had the 1987 Ninja Turtles teaming up with the 2003 4Kids Ninja Turtles, which was kind of the first Multiverse comic book movie made, and the Batman vs TMNT movie
Now for me, the turtles not using their weapons in TMNT II totally ruined the movie. I even remember asking my dad in the theater why Leonardo was using sticks instead of his swords?! It annoyed the Hell out of me! Plus, Shredder does absolutely nothing in the movie. That was another big problem. It’s a shame because if those two problems would have been fixed, it would have probably been my favorite. I was sooo happy to see them using their weapons again in TMNT III it instantly became my second favorite behind the first one. It also had some beautiful scenery in it. I even liked the music. But, much like Shredder in TMNT II, the villains didn’t impress me much (especially Walker). Regardless, the weapons issue fixed a big flaw the second film had.
Won’t ever forget as a kid when I got picked up from school and my mom had a surprise for me. She had all 3 turtles movies on VHS for me. She had got them at a garage sale.
I read the official novelization (of the first movie) last month, and something that was made clearer was what Chief Sterns meant when he says on the phone, “Pennington, I thought we had a deal!!” His deal was that he got Danny off when he was arrested, and Charles was supposed to keep April off Sterns’ back (thus, why she was fired). It’s so obvious, but I never put it together before what the "deal" was.
The one thing so cool about the third one is that one of the guys is wearing a Seattle thunderbirds hockey jersey which is the team I love and still go see play. So that’s my special connection with the third one
I've been watching and reading the Turtles since their inception. One thing I feel people tend to overlook is how Splinter and Shredder are the main characters of the story. Their rivalry over decades serves as a reminder of this.
What you said @10:11 - 10:34 is exactly how I feel watching TMNT 2 Secret of the Ooze. A couple of years back I decided to watch TMNT 2 with my son (who was 4 yrs old at the time) on vhs and holy shit.. every scene, every sound and the dialogue was SO recognizable. It was surreal how I felt rewatching it over a decade later with my son. I Can't really explain it lol! Being born in 1989 I was probably watching those first 2 movies over & over as a baby/young kid. My favorite TMNT film has to be the 1st though. It's great! The 2nd one is a bit too cheesy. Much love to all you Turtle fans out there 🐢
The Alamo Drafthouse here in SF plays the original movie like every year. It's awesome. I wish they made a new live action one with real suits and that darker vibe.
I was born in 1993 so like you I absolutely loved this trilogy and TMNT 2 was my favorite then TMNT 1 then TMNT 3 I had it in VHS my mom had multiple copies in case the VCR ate the tape thanks Chris your the best for the nostalgia trip
Let me tell you... The first three ninja turtles movies were so awesome when I was a kid. But I LOVED Secret of the Ooze. I remember seeing the first movie when I was 4... I was conflicted and wondered why the turtles were angry and sad and not like the cartoon lol. It was too serious. But a year later, TMNT 2 was my all time favorite and it fit more like the cartoon. I wore that VHS tape out that my mom had to buy me another one lol. My mom even bought the soundtrack for me on CD and I always had to asked her to play it for me. While the first movie was the best and fit more with the comics... I was introduced to the turtles through the cartoon and TMNT 2 are and still is my definitive turtles.
I have always had a soft spot for Secret of the Ooze. Every time I watched it I would imitate when they first showed up and jump in the air. I know a lot of people like the 1990 movie, so I'm so happy that you are like me and have as much nostalgia for TMNT 2! :)
I've never grown up watching the movies when I was younger, I grew up watching the 2012 series. And let me tell you, 10/10 series. Right up there with greats like Breaking Bad, Samurai Jack, Regular Show, Invincible, and The Boys
Great video, these came out as I was young and I feel the exact same ways as you thru your reviews. We went to my first drive-thru exp last week to screen the first two in 35 mm. Def nostalgia! Nice work.
I was worried you wasent gonna mention the tv series from 2002 but ya did :3 that was the one I fell in love with but I appreciate knowing more about "hero turtles" as it was called when I watched it, and I actuelly dident know they made a trilogy. Those story beats about splinters origin and them staying at aprils place was used in the show too so I was like "heeyy that's pretty awsome" awsome work as always :3
