I share a lot of your thoughts around the DSM and self ID. I also think similarly about trying to avoid the extreme opinions about neurodiversity. I absolutely have experienced and witnessed myself and others shut down for trying to describe how severely autism affects me/others and have been seen as being too negative and skeptical about my own experiences. People have tried to belittle my difficulties in attempts to cheer me up or make me change my mindset to something more positive. I believe some are well intentioned, but most can't deal with negativity or being out of control of a situation. I think maybe some can have positive experiences of autism, but that is not the case for me and most likely those who try to change my mindset on my own autism often struggle with empathy.

Yes, I agree, I think difficulties with understanding another perspective (which I admit I can be guilty of too at times) can make it hard for some autistics to understand why autism is not always a positive or enabling experience, and to understand how for many it can be disabling. I too have found it hard to talk about the negative aspects of my autism in some places, because of the uber positivism and denial of disability to be found in some quarters.

2009 same year as my book. Aspergers encelopedia book. I been into listening to Zen Buddish relaxing videos. Really helps me with my anxiety and stress. Anxiety really, if you identify the anxiety you stop it before it turns into stress. Buddism meditation, it stop philophisical, intelligence and logical thoughs. Which during those moment you live in the moment.

Sorry I got the publishing date wrong, I meant 2019 :). Zen meditation music can be really good, I've tried it myself at times.

The suggestion about whether autism should be removed from the diagnostic manual left me a little puzzled. I wasn't quite sure if it was based on the idea that autism is a difference, not a disorder, and therefore not a matter for clinicians or the idea that autism should be a matter of self-identification and not require a diagnosis. While I have some support for both ideas I feel they are problematic. In essence I do see autism as more a difference than a disability but the reality is in a neurotypical society autistic people are disadvantaged and find it harder to make progress; the difficulties of living in a society based on neurotypical demands often causes psychological problems such as anxiety and depression. Self-identification has its virtues and can be a way of avoiding the difficulties autistic people (especially adults) have in being diagnosed. It can also be a way of "demedicalising" autism and seeing it as a difference, not a disorder. It may not always be accurate although I feel most who self-identify as autistic do so with a good understanding of the condition; as you say though there may be other conditions of which they are unaware which may be missed without clinical involvement. There are also of course some people who don't even know they have autism before seeing a clinician and they would be missed through self-identification or self-diagnosis. The biggest problem though is likely to be employers and other organisations either not accepting a person's self-identification or seeing it as less valid because it hasn't been clinically verified. This can be very unfair but it is a risk and if a person's autistic status isn't recognised they may be denied support.

Autism individual As I said on Tess video last night. On the you tube Nero divergent autism you tuber. I only person I'm complete against is The Aspie World. He using his channel for his own self promotion. And his own finical gain. It O.K to make money out of you tube like Samdy get advert revenue. And her small fee discord server. But The Aspie World has merchandise, sponsorship, courses. I like you both, and Samdy likes me. I have been massive support to her channel. And feel it's good that I feel like I chat in the live stream to people. I been there since 1k subs on her channel. I agree that autism is seen as disability to you but it's not to Sam. I don't want to upset her and say you are mentally disabled women. Your autism is not a condition it's a disability. I know you say you not good at theory of mind. Samdy is happy and funny. My paranoid and over protective of Sam channel. But I feel like your having a go at Samdy channel. I like you both in different ways. I like Tess channel to in different ways. Even though I first saw Tess's channel in lock down.

Autism's individual I just watch Aspergers growth. Tom said he didn't like Olivia on Love on the spectrum. Which of different to you she was your favourite character on the show. I have to put down the channels I'm subscribe to at the moment. The interview behind the scences with Esma Aspergers in society I reall like. She could Defiently do a Ted Talk on autism that women.

Yours Indy Andy Tess Ward Purple Ella Yo Samdy Sam Stephanie Bethany (I been on 2 Stephanie Bethany live streams at 12:30 so insomnia night) I'm subscribed to. I try and to keep it no more than 8 autism subscribers. I did go down the rabbit hole I subscribed to 15 to many. I had 6 video to watch on one Friday it was to much in one day. I used to Coray Aspie mentor, I was angry by her pro Trump, 120,000 death of COVID that's not much for America population. Like UK the USA just though coronavirus was China problem. And didn't take WHO warning seriously. America would say you should look at your own government before have go at ours. We do we think our government are a joke handling COVID 19 as much as the U.S. So anyway, I gone off on a tangent to. I'm on 6 Subs channels AutiSIMSara I was subscribed to but had problems with her Internet new location. Shame her Norway channel, (Norway I have actually been there when I was 1 I can't remember I see the photos.) Was something to watch on a Sunday.
