That is such a pretty dress Lara, you did an amazing job and the fabric is so pretty. I have that pattern but have never made it as the deep v at the front scares me! I really get panicky with a low neckline so if I did make I would end up wearing a top under it like you have. Those sleeves are wonderful, a version of my favourite sleeves but with 2 layers of frill, so delicate and feminine. 😊. Great collab with Katinka ❤
Thank you so much! One of the reasons I’m going to find ways to wear the dress comfortably is because I love that fabric so much. I had never made sleeves with two layers of ruffle, but I am a big fan, now! I have some shirt patterns that are similar, but with one ruffle, so I’m totally planning on adding a second to it! Thank you for visiting and chatting!
Lara, Great dress! I like how you paired it with a lace top. I like the dress pattern too and need to try it out. Please post your concert dress. I might have missed that. Thanks for the update! 🥰 I'm going to check out Katinka's dress.
Thank you so much! It’s my only camisole, but I bought it years ago because I liked the lace, even back then!😁 The concert dress will be up tomorrow. I saved it as a Friday Sews video, just because it seems to fit the little bit of sewing, a little about life” so well.❤️ Thank you for being so nice, watching and commenting!
I gave mine darts in the back and the wrap went over, more and I tucked it at the top where it crossed over so it would not be so low. It was such fun to colab with you.
I have made several versions of this pattern, I down sized to a M (I am usually a L) I altered the placement of the wrap moving them both over to the side seams by about an inch this gives me move bust coverage. Also I often stitch the front closed so there is no chance of the wrap opening up. I also removed approx one inch from the fullness of the skirt just by placing the pattern of the skirt over on the fold, so effectively 2” on the front and back, that reduced some of the waist fullness. I also now put pockets in it. I have never tried the sleeve option you have as I tend to end up dipping the frill in something. Lovely make. Thank you for taking the time to share
Thanks so much for the helpful tips! I do want to make another one, and I'm sure with your hints I can make it more to my taste and sizing. I've wondered about sizing down even more. I do like the dress, so I hope the next time I make it, I'll be able to fit it better. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thanks for subbing! I’m so happy you’re giving me a try! I love Katinka’s channel, and was so excited to Collab with her. I think she’s one of the nicest people on RU-vid!
I do like the wrap/surplice neckline but I do have problems. I finally made one that has become a TNT: Simplicity MimiG's 8093. I did two things. Since the wrap is "fixed" I marked where I wanted the bottom of the V to be and then adjusted where I attached the side seams. the second thing is I added a "bump" in the middle of the hypotenuse. Imagine the neck edge is the long side of a triangle. I add a bump or slight outward curve at the bust. It still looks straight on the body. I am going to try Peppermint magazines's Albion top to see if that works. Pictures on the internet seem to indicate a higher v and the magazine website had a hack to turn it into a dress.
I’m very interested with how your Albion turns out. Do I follow you on Instagram already? I’ll look into that MimiG pattern-maybe try a wrap one more time before throwing in the towel!😂
You make me want to start a RU-vid just to do a collab with you. This is pattern and fabric is currently sitting beside me (it's actually 4th in line) as I watch this. I think I may do the same sleeves... I've been thinking of adding an internal drawstring to control the back volume. I had a TNT pattern when I was in my teens, long long time ago, that had one...
I LOVE the sleeves! They’re unique but not in the way. That’s a great idea about a drawstring. I’ve been thinking of making an elasticated clip that could tuck in the waste a bit. Didn’t they make something like that in the 80’s/90’s? Do you do Zoom, we could collaborate that way!😁
I have a wrap top that is very pretty ....... but I don't like wearing it! I feel like its going to "fall apart" even though it is stitched at the bottom of the wrap. I think it is going to get put in a box to be donated!
I totally understand the concern-hence my camisole!😂 I’ve been trying to decide if I want to keep trying to work out a wrap too that I feel good in, or just give up! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The patterns are clipped onto a fabric strip with large clips. I think some people use them as Chip Clips? The fabric strip is thumbtacked onto the wall. In one of my shorts you can see it up close. Thanks for stopping by, watching and chatting!😁
I feel the same way about wraps. I just don't think they are attractive on people who have any broadness on the top part of the body, front or back. It takes extra steps to make them feel comfortable so you don't feel like you're going to fall out of it.
So glad I’m not alone! They seem to always gape, and I guess I don’t have enough skill to fix it properly.😕 I do want to start trying out some different necklines and see what I like most. There has to be other necklines that flatter a larger bust/upper body…
