So happy I found your video, I just finished The other Bennet sister and really want to read another P&P-book so I'll look in to your mid and top picks :) I recommend Perception by Terry Fleming, it also follows Mary and Kitty and is a "lighter" read with HEA. They visit Jane and Elizabeth so you get a bit of their story as well. It also contains my favorite head canon for Lydia, which is that she and Wickham moves to the US.

I recommended all Shannon Winslow books. A specialy "Return to Longbourn", a Mary Bennet story, and "The Ladys of Rosings Park", I loved that Anne found her true love.

So glad I came across this video; I’m definitely going to look into some of these. If you’re looking for a Charlotte retelling, Charlotte Collins by Jennifer Becton may be of interest. It sees her as a widow and her dealing with all that comes following her husband’s death.

Thank you so much for the recommendation for a Charlotte-centric book, I'm going to add it to my TBR right now! It sounds like a really interesting premise to examine her life as a widow and I appreciate when retellings/continuations move past the events of the actual book!

I loved hearing your thoughts on all these! I have to agree that What Kitty Did Next and The Other Bennet Sister are the best P&P retellings. I haven't read Unequal Affections, but I'd be curious to. Thanks for sharing what the timeline is like in that one. That helps me adjust my expectations accordingly.

I would definitely still recommend that you try Unequal Affections because the writing style is very similar to Austen, I just really wish the timeline had been extended!

Loved this! I am now intrigued about What Kitty Did Next and The Other Bennett Sister. I don’t think I have read a retelling since Death comes to Pemberley. That one really turned me off.

You should definitely give The Other Bennet Sister and What Kitty Did Next a chance, they are miles above the other Austen retellings I have read!

I've read a few retellings from Mr Darcy's POV but honestly can't remember what they're called since it's been years 😅😅 but I do remember enjoying them very much. I've always been curious about Kitty's life after P&P and what she might have been like with more positive influences, so I'm definitely going to pick up What Kitty Did Next and possibly the other Bennet sisters as well

Mr. Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange was one I really enjoyed. The are many Audiobooks on RU-vid as well.

If I hadn't read The Other Bennett Sister first I would have enjoyed What Kitty Did Next more, but I must say the marriage fate of Mary - not to spoil it - in the Kitty book seemed more plausible to me when I compared them. I read both these winners just this month and I agree that they were the best Austen inspired books thus far.

Lol! Boring is exactly how I describe Death Comes to Pemberley. The adaptation is so much better. I’m currently reading the sequel to The Murder of Mr Wickham. I will have to give Longbourn a reread. I didn’t enjoy it the first time. The last 2 books mentioned are cannon for me too! Although the first Christmas at Pemberley play has a very cure storyline for Mary as well. Thanks for sharing!

I might have to give the Death Comes to Pemberley adaptation a watch because I keep hearing good things about it and there are some good actors on the cast list! And I've never heard of Christmas at Pemberley... is it only a play or also a book? I have such a soft spot for Mary (always, but especially after reading The Other Bennet sister). Based on your comments about The Year In Between I'm not sure if you would like Longbourn more on a reread!

This is so much fun! What Kitty Did Next is my absolute favorite of these, though I did enjoy The Other Bennet Sister as well. I loved the Frost Fair part too! I agree with you about Death Comes to Pemberley. It was slow! I think there would be a lot of interesting things to discuss in it, but it wasn't my favorite.

The Frost Fair was such an iconic scene! I'm glad I'm not the only one who found Death Comes to Pemberley kind of meh considering how well known the author is!

I agree that Death Comes to Pemberley should have been great. I am a huge P. D. James fan but this was very near the end of her life when this came out and I feel she had lost her creative spark. She was also constrained by trying to keep within the world of Pride and Prejudice. I always suspected her publisher coaxed another book out of her when her heart wasn't in it.

Interesting! Thank you for the backstory about Death Comes to Pemberley and the fact that it came at the end of her publishing career/life. This is making me think that it would be worthwhile for me to still give some of her other writing a chance at some point!
