We have used a bread machine for years. My wife, an Iowa State Home Ec grad from the last century, and an award winning accomplished baker, detested the idea a machine could make good bread. After I persisted (I'm the machine guy!) and we bought one, we were hooked. We almost never use it to bake. Just mix, knead and proof. I'm alone now, but I still make my own bread with one; bake in the oven. If you'd like, I would be happy to share the little recipe (by weight) card she made for me. Easy-peasy.
What a poignant tribute to your wife. I am contemplating purchasing a machine (used one for years about 25 years ago, only for kneading and proofing also) again and would ❤ your recipe. I much prefer measuring by weights also!
My old West Bend machine has a delay feature. I used to set it when my boys were small. It was always easier to get them up for school with the smell of fresh bread wafting through the house.
Back in the 90's we had two double bread machines, (4 loaves). I too set the feature to start a few hours before our 7 children woke up! Yes, it did help get them moving and boy was it a costsaving, delicious investment! Thank you for the review.
Hi PAM & JIM & ALL 👋 on here 💙 - I have this Cuisinart Bread Machine too .. and really like it as well.. it works so good.. I bought it on Amazon Warehouse in perfect condition.. at a reduced cost.. I then bought different types of Wheat Berries and the Mockmill 100 Flour Grain Grinder - but now I have a glitch with having recipes for this machine with needing to know which Wheat Berry Flour Im to grind up for certain breads etc. Im also interested in doing Sour Dough Bread in this machine(I know there’s a recipe in the Lil’ Breadmaker book on it) hopefully your new Bread Book has some recipes using the freshly ground up flour- and which berries to use for what bread in this bread maker… some videos on the top made breads would be great and the use of what berries ..! Thanks so much for this video- I appreciate all your videos .. you’re a blessing to me and all.. May we Keep Looking UP more than ever !^ (Col 3:1-4, Luke 21:28) ❤️🙏📖😊
I have an aldi bread machine for 12yrs now and I still love it. It has a fruit section in the lid that releases fruits and nuts at the right time during the process.
I have a vintage bread maker that still works and does a great job. Love to make a Cheese and pepperoni loaf. Just added a 1/2 cup (handful) mozzarella cheese cubes. 1/2 cup pepperoni cut into small pieces. Coat in flour to prevent sticking together and will distribute evenly in the loaf. Good video. Thanks Pam.
My first and still use my used bread machine. I use it to mix, knead and do first rise. I then remove and form my loaf for my bread pan. Love it! Don’t be afraid to buy a used one to try.
Welcome to the Bread Machine Family!! I'm on my third bread machine as I wear them out. My number four machine is new in the box in the closet waiting for number three to "pass away". Try making apple butter and jam with it. It's pretty awesome and soooooo easy!
You and your bread machine history is similar to me and my dehydrator history. I am on my 4th or 5th after wearing them out one by one! LOL! I am going to try the berry jam here shortly and will do a video on it.
I have been on the fence about getting a bread machine for a long time. Thank you for always being so considerate and sharing your experiences with products as well as your recipes. I would have never gotten the courage to try canning if not for you and now I do it all the time. So now I feel ready to take the plunge and get a bread machine. Bless you & Jim for all you do to help others.
I have a Breadman bread machine. I, usually, don't bake my bread in it but use the dough cycle. It looks a lot like your machine and I'm hoping that I can take the paddle out like you can with yours. I've had the machine for 15-20 years and it never occurred to me that I could take the paddle out. What a revelation! 😆
I just bought this same machine and have made 2 loaves so far. Basic white the other basic whole wheat (recipe book) I did try the delayed start and it worked perfectly. The ONLY drawback was when the machine turned on in the early morning hours before dawn, the sound freaked our dogs out who barked to let us know something was going on in the kitchen 😂 I wholeheartedly agree with your review! It's a nice easy to use machine. Im trying the Rye Bread recipe for Passover and the cinnamon raisin bread. Yum! I trust your reviews and videos and canning recipes. I've used several over the years. Thank you so much!
My experience is the opposite. I didn't know the first thing about making bread. So I bought a regal bread machine. It broke about 10 years layer. I then used my kitchen aid dough hook to kneed the bread. I used the same recipes as the bread machine book. It turned out perfect. So now I make bread by hand.
I use our bread machine (the dough cycle-to the first rise) for mixing up sourdough bread. Then shape and let it rise until ready to bake in the oven. It turns out perfectly.
I definitely love my TWO Zojirushi bread machines. I put my Ank to the side just to use a bread machine. Fast, easy, and good results. Using the Ank was like running a marathon in the kitchen. It makes so much at a time that it bogged down much (most??) of my day. With a bread machine….I’m saving time and energy….and getting the same result in lesser quantity. Works for me.
No need to remove the dough, get a plastic bag over the hand, pull dough to the side, remove paddle with a side of that plastic bag, which is already being used. Works perfectly!! I also thought I needed to take it out, etc. Nope, much easier to leave the dough in as one pulls the paddle out. You can also remove the pan, lay on its side and remove the paddle.
Removing the paddle before baking in the machine exposes the spindle and its bearing to more of the moisture and heat, some of which penetrates the tight fit. The result is a faster rusting of the spindle in the bearing, and after a while (maybe a couple of years or more) it will lock up. Older machines were better made and could have lasted longer, but I would not risk doing that today. If you don't want a rust-frozen spindle, bake the bread in the oven.
I made my banana bread recipe on the bake setting and it worked great! I doesn’t use yeast and this machine cooks at about 350°. So I used 3 cups flour and and cooked for 1.25 hrs. I checked after 1 and it was done.
I just bought a zojirushi (the big one) at an estate sale for $15. I've used it once but wasn't really impressed. I was a rebel and combined my yeast with the water, oil and honey then added my dry ingredients on top and it came out just fine. I did program the machine to pause after the rise to pull the paddles out. Thanks for the video!
I would love to see you make jam in your bread maker. I have a Zojurishi and it makes wonderful bread but I have never used it to make jam! Would love to see how that works!
Hello, Pam. I live in Italy and I have had two bread machines. Both were bought at a German supermarket chain similar to Aldi. Their appliances are actually quite good and very reasonably priced (about 50 pr 60 dollars). My bread machine came with a really good instruction manual and many recipes for the 15 different programs. It is very versatile and I can even invent and program it as I want. One of the main reasons I like using a bread machine is because I know the dough is kept in a temperature controlled environment and the dough usually rises perfectly. I frequently bake the risen dough in a conventional oven because for some types of bread I prefer the shape I can give it. I’ve done normal white bread, all types of mixed grain breads and even sweet breads and they almost always come out brilliantly. I believe that nowadays with the price of good artisanal breads (at least here in Italy) it is also quite a savings! I love that we can keep the ingredients clean and simple and avoid any additives or preservatives that they put in supermarket breads. I look forward to seeing more videos about making bread with the bread machine!
Thank you Pam and Jim, I purchased this same bread machine in March. I have not used it yet. Been trying to use up several loaves purchased on sale breads from my freezer. Your video is very timely right now. We are retired like you (similar in age). So here we go, you have given me the courage.
I own this Cuisinart bread machine and I love it. It took me a while to get "it right" every time but now that the learning curve is over... I am very glad I chose this brand. Thank you for yet another wonderful review!
I just bought a brand new Cuisine Art at the second hand store. I bought it as a back up for my 15 year old Breadman. After hearing your review I’m very glad I did!
Hi "Rose" - This was such a great video! Awhile back I bought the Cuisinart Bread Machine on sale but haven't had the time to learn how to use it. So seeing this video was such a wonderful introduction to this machine. I am now anxious to try it. And I saw that you have another video where you use this machine to make sourdough bread. Yay!! That is what convinced me to buy the bread machine in the first place. The lady demonstrating the bread machine at a local kitchen store said that it could be used to make sourdough. WOW!! That's what sold me on it!! So now that I have watched this video, I am going to head over and watch your bread machine sourdough bread video! Thanks so much for all you do!! I love how scientific you are!! Love, Mary
The purple color is a good indicator for the gluten intolerant people to know it is OK for them to eat. We're doing a pantry challenge this month and I will have to use my bread machine. Good to know I have a good machine sitting in the box!
Pam, I just have to say, and I hope you see this, I purchased this machine. I purchased based on your review. I have a toy hauler, on board generator, so thought ok it's small, perfect! But what I really want to thank you for is this. I was never going to buy another bread machine, I make bread by hand. But I still work full time, I loved the idea of the dough cycle. So today, I put the recipe you use for hamburger buns in it, started dough at lunch, (I work from home)and before end of work pressed out my buns...I had buns for dinner with little effort! Thank you for all you share and suggest ❤
I have 3 machines I picked up at thrift stores. For years I made my grandma's family recipe that used 5 pounds of flour for my monthly bread bake. Getting a bit of achy hands as a senior. Switched to small recipes of similar potato bread recipe from book. I do up mixes in jars and make bread as needed. Love our fresh bread!
I have that exact machine. I bought it for the feature of being able to remove the paddle. I just love it. I sometimes use the dough setting to bake my bread in the oven.
Thank you for this video. It has encouraged me to get a little braver with my bread machine. Due to severe food allergies, I make gluten free bread and use guar gum as the gluten. My bread works out great and tastes, stores and even freezes good.
My old bread maker stopped working after years of use. So looking for a new one and since I watch your video's regularly I thought I'd better watch again this one. I'm sold and will buy this one. There are so many machines out there to choose from and of course, they all say they are the best. So thank you again, for an informative and easy to understand video of this machine. I commented some years back about your hands being so pretty and they still are even after all the things you do.
The purple gluten-free bread made me laugh - might be nice for special occasions. I do keep gluten-free, but I use a mixture of wholemeal rice flour, corn starch, wholemeal millet flour, guar gum and xanthan gum and the bread looks normal. I also have a bread maker and I agree: I don't always use it, but especially when I don't have much time, it's so convenient to just put all the ingredients in and let it work and bake for you - and have fresh bread in the morning. When my wife, years ago, suggtested: "You need a bread maker", I thought she had completely lost it because she is the one insisting on doing everything by hand and never ever using a machine, not even a slow cooker or a pressure cooker - but she was absolutely right.
This is a great revuew. I bought this Cuisiart model some years ago and it has been wonderful. Talk about freeing the slaves, this breadmaker will ertainly free you up in the kitchen without sacrificing taste, texture, or crumb. Cuisinart certainly did a great job on this little workhorse! Thank you for your review of this little gem.
There is definitely a niche for a bread machine, if you can afford one. Some have been found in Second Hand Stores which might be a way to try one for less of an investment to see if it is for you. Pam & Jim thx for the adjusted recipes.
I now agree with that! I had no idea how convenient they are. I still prefer my regular way to make bread, but it does indeed have a niche for us. We have had lots of viewers report that they found bread machines at yard sales and second hand stores--a great way to pick one up if you can find them.
I have a breakdown and a breville both very pricey however I found second hand for pennies on the dollar I do the dough settings Im so happy I took the plunge as I have had hands and cannot knead, both of mind have jam settings to make jam and ketchup I haven't done these get but will soon
I'm getting two of these machines: One for my daughter and one for me. Once the book comes out I will gift a copy to my daughter with the bread machine. Awesome!
I got it from Santa last Christmas. Funny looking loaves, but convenient to have 5 min ingredients dump, then set n forget. Looking forward to your improvements on the recipes in the instruction and recipes booklet.
We have a Cuisinart bread machine and are very happy with it. Have not made a huge variety yet but enjoy what we have made so far. Thank you for sharing your experience and information with us!! It is always so helpful and encouraging.
I had a bread machine years and years ago but I never used it so I gave it away. As life goes, now I would like one again. Maybe I’ll try out the bread machine. I like to make no knead breads too…No equipment to mess with & Mother Nature takes care of it on the counter with the long proofing time. Delicious easy bread.
I actually have my bread maker going right now making dough for rolls for Easter dinner. My mother in law bought me a cuisinart bread machine as a gift, not knowing I had bought one already (a different brand) so I have two machines now. Seeing this video is making me want to try out my cuisinart.
I have the same machine. I bought it as a refurbished model (Factory Direct if your in Canada) and have been VERY happy with it! Over the past 30+ yrs I was using Black & Decker machines but I like this one better. The newer Black & Decker ones are inferior quality to what they used to be which was why I went with the Cuisinart when I saw it refurbished from a local electronics chain (I've had very good experiences buying refurbished items from them, a TV, Shark vacuum, and other items).
I have the Cuisianart machine too & i am very pleased! Your bread looks better than mine! You have more lift, but it tastes great. I use the bread machine yeast, may i ask what yeast you are using? Thank you for sharing!!❤
I would skip the bread machine yeast. It is just instant yeast under a different label and they sometimes charge more for it. I use instant yeast for all my baking including in the bread machine.
Just bought one. I'm not much of a bread eater (scared of yeast, grain, and carbs), but mom likes it. It would be handy once in a while. I tried the cinnamon swirl first. Mom's favorite. I just dumped the cinnamon and raisins in at the prompt instead of taking it out and doing it right. It basically pulverized the raisins, cinnamon, and sugar toward the bottom. I pulled it out to look at it and saw that mixture tucked under the bread so i took it out and smashed it back into the dough. Accidentally Perfect! The swirl was great! It's a very powerful kneader. I like it, but would have to be convinced that it kills the yeast to love it.
Mine was a bit heavy. Great for French toast, but I would have liked a bit lighter bread. Not sure what the +/- buttons adjusted. I made 2lb with King Arthur non bromated all purpose flour. Not sure if you can adjust the cooking time. It was done throughout though. I would have liked more of an apple strudel swirl. As it were we just canned apple butter so it was all there, but a bit more strudel-y would have been better. That's the only thing I have made (just got it). The texture is heavy. I will check out your book. I'm not sure i would make this again because of how heavy, floury, and carby it is. It's good. I just don't do well with baked food (allergic to eggs). But I tried it.
I have this machine, just an earlier model. Love it. I have made my own homemade bread for over 50 + years. As the years have come, my hands and wrists give me problems with arthritis so using a bread machine allows me to still have fresh bread without stressing my joints. My favorite bread to make in the machine is rye bread with caraway seed. I used the recipe from Bob's Red Mill recipes for bread machines. It is delicious toasted with a thin schmear of orange marmalade. And there is also a potato bread recipe I use and put in a tablespoon of dill weed finely chopped and it makes a great sandwich bread. So many ways to change the recipes up for variety. Oatmeal bread using maple syrup instead of sugar and applesauce instead of the oil/butter. Toss in some chopped walnuts and you have a tasty breakfast toast. Have fun and glad you have tried this out and like it.
I have the West Bend 41300 and usually I let it do it all but bake..that I do in the oven but I’ve let it do it all including bake and done the overnight prep …morning wake-up and it works like Magic! I love my bread machine….
This machine has saved my bread baking as I have aged. Because or arthritis in my hands I am unable to hand knead. Because of back problems is too difficult to deal with stand mixer. I mainly do the dough. Program and shape and bake in the oven, except in summer. Nice to bake in machine and not heat up kitchen. You are not limited to recipes on manual though that is where you start to learn technique.
I make a keto bread with almond flour by hand and was told that Terra Soul psyllium husk powder does not turn it purple. That is what I use and no purple…hth😊
Great review! I have a bread machine that was a gift way back in the 90s. It still works fine and I use it occasionally, although it doesn’t have all the fancy features this one does. I might be in the lookout for a different bread machine, I’ll look used first. Thanks!
We have had many viewers who say they found their bread machines at yard sales and second hand stores, so I bet you will be able to find a good one that way.
@@RoseRedHomestead I actually just found a brand new one still in the box just like yours on Craigslist and I’m going to pick it up later today! I’m excited to try out all the features.
I have a cuisinart bread machine. I purchased in 2007. It is similar to your but hasn’t got all the features. I love my bread machine and have baked the cinnamon swirl bread and white or wheat bread mostly. I appreciate the tips and will be looking forward to your bread recipe book. Thank you!!!
I’ve never met a Cuisinart product that I haven’t love, or that I’ve been disappointed in. My aunt was the first one on our family to buy a Cuisinart kitchen appliance when I was a young woman. She raved way back then…& I decided to follow her lead 🥰. With a bread machine, I never bake my bread in the machine. I simply use it for mixing, kneading & the first raise. Then remove dough & finish it in a regular bread pan & bake in oven. I think bread is drier when baked in machines. (just my opinion).
I bought this Cuisinart Bread Machine at Goodwill for $20. Deal! I've used it a few times and it makes really good bread. I printed the online manual and recipe book. I'm doing no sugar no carb diet right now, but since homemade bread will have less sugar and is healthier, I'll be making bread for the kids.
Glad you like them! I love how you said the videos are soothing! That really touched me. We try so hard not to be alarmists but rather to teach preparedness that will eliminate fear. Thank you for your kind words.
There are lots of good ones out there. I didn't want a great big one, so this one is perfect for us. Lots of our viewers have the Zojirushi Bread Machine and love it. Happy hunting!
I love my bread machine! I used to make bread without a machine but then I developed some problems and I couldn’t make bread. My bread machine has been a life saver!! Great video and be sure to check out Bread Machine Diva as she has many troubleshooting tips and tricks ❤❤❤❤
Well for us, when the power is out, and we are on Solar only, or a small generator... we only have 110/120V, and so this gives us the opportunity to have fresh bread even in a grid down scenario... assuming everything else is OK. It frees us up to focus on other things, while the bread is taking care of itself.
Thank you for posting this very informative and encouraging video. You made me happy that I just ordered this bread machine. I would like to purchase your book. Please tell me how to find it when it comes out.
I have been told by others in my celiac group that there are “white” psyllium powders but I’m determined to use up the expensive ingredient I bought so my bread is either purple or crumbly but not purple😂
I've spent over 60 years baking bread the old fashioned way but now that I'm over 80 I can no longer knead bread by hand so I either make Artisan or use a bread machine to knead then bake in my own oven. What I do want to suggest to you is to create a sticky bun cinnamon roll recipe that can be mixed the day before, put in the fridge to bake in the morning. I have one but can't share it because it came from a well known bread book.
I do have one, but it is not a bread machine recipe. I mix it in my stand mixer. Here is the link to that video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F6qD3b67e9s.html
I love my bread machine for making my gluten a free bread. I"m not crazy about the square shape so I now take out my dough out and put it in a regular bread pan for the final rise and baking.
Great review. Thank you. We recently purchased a BM also. Our plan is to use it just to bake the bread so house doesn’t get hot in the summer. Haven’t figured out how to do it yet, but am sure it’s possible.
Thank you for this review. I just ordered one this morning. I'm really looking forward to your bread book. One issue I have with bread making is slicing it, I always butcher it and can't get nice even slices. Any hints? Love your channels!
Jim does the same thing to our bread! LOL. I looked at a bread slicer the other day and was tempted to get one. Bread slices better when it is completely cooled and is even easier the second day.
Thank you for the video and all your comments. I bought it 5 days ago at ACE and it was $ 130.- I have tried it 3 times by now and I do not like the shape of the bread, it is more high than long, not good for a nice cut. I am from Switzerland and am a bit spoiled with bread and now here in Colorado not so happy with the store bought bread, so this is why I bought it. I had a other bread maschine ahead of this one that broke down after 3 years because of my use as about 3 times a week. That one made a better longer loaf in shape. So now, maybe I just need to get used of this odd bread shape or keep it for only knitting and does and bake in my ofen.
